Looking at Philly's potential trade pieces. Jesse Biddle seems to be a too coveted guy and too much for Aoki in trade. You then have Maikel Franco a 3b that has jumped in the prospect rankings who could be a great 3b addition long term for Milwaukee. Philly also picked some HS Pitching last year that could be thrown in with Franco: Shane Watson and Mitch Gueller. Gueller seems to possess the Power Arm, something the Brewers have targeted of late, so I'd think Gueller would be the target over Watson. I didn't mention Ethan Martin but he too could be a target.

I just don't get the point in bringing Hart back for 1 year with the other options to use? At best, he becomes like KRod and becomes viable in trade next year. At worst, he's Alex Gonzalez ruined and costing the team 1+million to be waived after 60games and thus using our options anyhow. This isn't an 85-90win team next season with the question mark of who's going to man 1b? A veteran like Hart? Or, the unproven options of Gamel,Morris, Halton, and Green? The team should fully expect more regression from Braun/ARam/Weeks/Aoki/Lohse on top of Hart's. It's called aging. This requires exciting young prospects to join the team to negate that less expected production from those players. Morris is the best bat to do so in the organization at the moment. Only Hart's return blocks that. If the team decides to bring back Hart, then they must remove Gamel,Green, and Morris this offseason with that logic of keeping him. Heck, why bother keeping Morris in the first place? May as well trade him tonight, clearly has no future.

Cubs Could Keep Garza
brewcrewdue80 replied to splitterpfj's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I too am rooting for Cleveland to land Garza. St. Louis I guess was listed as a darkhorse to land Garza which I'm guessing is accounting on Miller/Wacha/Kelly breaking down to having innings limit to make that suggestion, preparing for it with Garza. You gotta figure Lindor is out of question in trade. So then Bauer? Do the Cubs want to go there? I could guess Danny Salazar and Naquin as a solid package for the Cubs. For Texas they are dangling Mike Olt out there which FWIW is a nice fit for the Cubs if they move Baez or Castro at 2b. Would be a Rizzo, Castro, Baez, Olt infield then. with Castillo at C. That's a 4year base of an infield before anyone would be seen moved from the team. I'm guessing the Cubs are asking for Perez,Grimm or CJ Edwards to go with Olt. Boston is intriquing too since they have the talent in prospects in regards to rankings that really Cleveland/Texas don't. But Bradley should be Ellsbury's replacement. Bogaerts should be on no trade availability. Leaving Barnes,Webster,Owens, and Ranaudo as likely headliners in a trade. I don't know that Chicago would want any of them but Ranaudo at this point, which wouldn't be enough imo and Cecchini becomes an ask in the deal and for Boston that's too much to part with for a rental. I am hoping Texas Loses out and becomes players for both Gallardo and Aoki to package some great talent in order to justify giving them away with both having another year under contract minimum. -
Not to bust anyone's balls or anything when downplaying my comparison of Altuve to Segura. Both played briefly before seeing a fullseason. Altuve last year. Segura this year. So comparing Segura today to Altuve's career numbers I want to point this out. Altuve had a .303/.344/.438/.783 slash line at the All Star Break last year. Including 5 HRs out of the 7 he hit all season. Segura now at .325/.363/.487/.849 slash line at All Star Break this year. 11HRs. But only 1 in the last month. What Segura is doing thus far this season is exactly what Altuve was doing thus far last season. So when/if Segura continues to hit 10HRs each half a season, then yeah the comparison is low for Segura. Segura Walks less than Altuve fyi. So Segura's only upbeat on Altuve is a better defense and more power. What if the power doesn't remain? Let's say Segura hits 2-4HRs rest of season. Oh btw, Altuve is younger than Segura, by two months but still from that standpoint Houston locks him up for Ages 23-27 with 28/29 option years. This isn't a 26yr old being locked up to a cheap deal for semi marginal OPS numbers. Segura's last month's of numbers: .296/.341/.356/.697OPS 124PAs 5BBs. OPS has dropped from .918 to .849. It's a small sample but it's heading in Altuve's direction. That's why I suggested the comparison. It's a matter of Games played 45 Segura 1st appearance and now 1st full season to Altuve's 57 games played first appearance then last year being full season. It's a fairly same career arc that come time to negotiate now through next year can be worked on. And I'm saying this with knowing Segura is a better player overall. Altuve 4/12.5 buying out Arb years and Segura being better and trying to negotiate buying out his arb years. How much more does being better make him worth? I said 1mil a yr so would be 4/16.5 And yes Starlin Castro got 4/23 his final 4 years but Castro is/was the Cubs Face of the Franchise. The Brewers have Braun/Lucroy/Gomez to market as the faces of their franchise. Castro was it.

Saw this on MLBTR: •After having knee surgery, Corey Hart is now out for the season, and it's unclear what his future holds, reports Todd Rosiak of the Journal Sentinel. He's a free agent this offseason, and he'd like to stay with the Brewers. Due to the injury, it likely won't take a large financial commitment for Milwaukee to keep him. "I’ve talked to my agent. This is my home – I’ve been them almost half my life," says Hart. "I’d like to continue as long as they’ll let me. This might have been the silver lining to let me stay here – maybe a lower salary with incentives helps my case." Morris's line on the 4th:Let's put this down for now. And come back every 2 weeks. Hunter Morris YTD: .244/.333/.492/.826 17/2b 2/3b 15HR 39RBI 33BB 61K At the break: .241/.319/.496/ .811 in 351PAs 17/2b 2/3b 19HR 51RBI 34BB 72K

Can't the Players ask for a day off if they feel their bodies need some rest? And I'm sure stats will dictate rest too. Like Gomez' run of late, if it weren't the AS break after tomorrow I'd bet he would have sat a day here in the midst of a 1-29 stretch at the plate. They've done so with Aoki's brief struggles at the plate by sitting him a game here/there.

How much longer does Jack Z get in Seattle
brewcrewdue80 replied to jjfanec's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Or the guy who used PED's was very capable to hit for 20HRs bat .290-.300 and hit a boatload of Doubles. Not the Montero who's now clean. -
Segura is around 1 year behind Altuve for a career and this could go a long way in giving out a similar contract extension. Both All-Stars their first full year. Both showing pop that year and Speed on the Basepaths. Both with lower than ideal BB Rates. Segura has a little more pop and a higher batting line thus far, but still a lot of games to go. As a Brewer Fan, this is good because, I can suddenly see a Segura Extension coming this time next year like Altuve's but probably 1mil more a year so 4/16.5 and 7/7.5 options. At least if the contract negotiations hinge on what Altuve (most recently, similar signed player) was signed to. Anything where year's 7/8 for Segura remain under 10mil will be a steal.

Braun, Biogenesis and the Whole Crazy Thing
brewcrewdue80 replied to splitterpfj's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I still don't get, why this list of names is on the same paper? Why? Did all these players get the PEDs in the same hour? You're telling me, no college, high school, football, weight lifters none of those names find their way mixed in on that list? And as stated, when you willingly know you're taking a banned substance, you use your name? Especially the players with South Florida connections, like do you really believe using your name won't be recognized? That's what I'm struggling with in this ordeal. Where's an NBA,NFL,NHL name mixed in on this paper? If PEDs help a professional player in MLB, how does 1 single underling of a player in NHL,NBA, or NFL not take this same substance? -
But that's just it. If he's only set to make 2.95mil next season and can give Milw, spot starts like he did today and has in every one of them. Don't you prefer to have that next season as insurance with the likes of Peralta,Thornburg/Hellweg,Jungmann, and at some point Nelson on the mound? Barring some kind of return on a deal that nets Milw, a true SP ready immediately, I think Gorzo is better kept on the team. If that trade happens where a SP comes in a deal, then I'd fully make Gorzo available afterwards.
-
Gorzo is showing every bit why I loved his signing. But I don't know why he was used so sparingly for these Starts that could have been his over Burgos,Hand, and Figaro? I think the Crew need to keep him just as a SP for the remainder of the season and potentially as one next season. Especially if 1 of Lohse/Gallardo are traded away.

Axford is more expensive. KRod is a rental. I don't see how a 3.53ERA RP is mediocre? His ERA was 3 prior to a recent Season Worst 3ER in .1 ip outing. He'll likely erode it back down towards 3. As to Jacobs and the return. It's fits the kind of profile I'd expect in trade for a RP. A so-so projected prospect with something that flashes potential. In his case a 20HR bat that maybe turns to 25-30 in further improved development. I actually see Jacobs as the kind of guy who likely spends another 2-3 up to 4years in the minors before getting a crack on a ML roster. Looks more like a 5th OF to me by the numbers. I hope the Brewers do better, especially as the deadline approaches and more teams become desperate. I think Boston did great in this trade, getting a jump on their competition by attaining a RP they need before everyone else and before prices got out of hand

If Edwards has Ace Potential why was he drafted in the 48th rd.? Why isn't he even on Scouting Book? It sounds like Edwards has a quirky delivery which is deceptive? Something that as he progresses may result in less positive results with more polished hitters. Jackson Ace Potential? I'm trying to find that kind of statement regarding him. 7. Luke Jackson – RHP (12) I admit, even with a complex and often times varied delivery, I can’t get past my affinity for Jackson’s leveraged fastball that sits in the 93-94 mph range and touches 98 mph on occasion. His fastball can overpower hitters and at times he shows an ability to live in the lower third of the zone, making it difficult to lift. His curveball has plus potential as a quality second pitch and while his change-up is well below-average, he is willing to mix it in at times. Jackson profiles as more of a fourth starter for me, relying heavily on two pitches and there are scouts that believe he could excel as a setup man. From March this year. http://www.sallyleaguejournal.com/2012/08/19/luke-jackson-scouting-report-w-video/ Another:I see a ceiling as a 3 starter with him likely ending up a 4 or 5. This was a year ago almost though. Off of Minor League Blog: 2. Luke Jackson, SP (Myrtle Beach Pelicans) — 2010 Draft, 1st round, 45th overall, Rangers No. 11 What he did: 8-4, 2.30 ERA, 74 K/34 BB in 70 1/3 innings. The 21-year-old right-hander far and away leads the league in ERA and can boast being one of the category’s few leaders who has also registered a strikeout an inning. He’s built nicely on his 2012 showing, which saw him strike out 146 in 129 2/3 frames across two levels (including Myrtle Beach). Where he might rank now: Most of the Rangers’ top 10 wouldn’t deserve to drop, but he can probably leapfrog one or two spots. If he's an Ace potential I'd expect him to be ranked immediately behind Profar. He has a 4.5ish BB/9 and it hasn't improved at any level. To me he reads off as Yovani. #2 upside but value is really as #3. Nothing reads as Ace #1 potential.

Time to trade Gallardo?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I'm in agreement with this. If Scouts are grading Yo a #3 to #4, I'm hoping that maybe a team still pays out prospects for him as a solid #3 and not a declining #3. 4.83 ERA less Ks and even more struggles to pitch later in games than previously. I just fear Yo loses that "Team Controlled" tag with these numbers next season at the trade deadline as he's certainly not worth 13.25million for his numbers. So what kind of Value does Yo provide then in trade being a "Rental" essentially with 0 draft pick compensation ability, Continuing with his numbers currently into next season? It'd be Scott Feldman/Baker return imo then. Or nothing. Look at it this way. Last start 6ip 4hits 2bbs 3ERs. This vs. Wade Miley. Who started the game giving up 3ERs on 7hits by the 3rd inning to Yo's 1 over minimum 0hits 1BB through 3ip. Miley's final line? 8ip 8hits 3ER 0BB 4ks. How often does Gallardo give the team that kind of "Gamer" outing? By all accounts Miley looked headed for a quick 5ip hook if lucky and he turned around and gave the team 8ip. That's a true #3 to me. Getting Gritty outings that accumulate some innings keeping your team in the game. Gallardo has 5 Starts that he seen the 7th inning in 20 this year. 17 out of 33Starts last year he reached the 7th inning but not 1 8IP outing. He managed 1 vs. Lousy Miami this year but that means 1 GS of 8ip in 53 Starts, extended to 1 in 61 back to 2011. He hasn't been a #2 upside since 2011. He was borderline #3 last year. And he really is a #4 SP this year. You can see where this is headed for next year. We can say selling Low but, I fear this may be the highest value at the trade deadline we actually have the chance of selling at, which means we are selling high. We just held on too long. -
As a Fantasy owner of Corbin, I can tell you he had 3 Wins blown trying to get #10 by Heath Bell. Montero's Run Support issue wasn't the problem. Corbin is a guy who I read to start the season found 2-3MPH in his Slider that also improved with the velocity with 1-2MPH in his Fastball. Pretty amazing to see what that little amount of velocity can do for a Pitcher. Julio Teheran/Shelby Miller also fit the increased MPH nets success this season. If only one of the Brewers prospects could achieve that improvement.

Based on current rankings in Texas' system you are taking on pretty much #s 8-15 range. Why Odor vs. Sardinas? I can see the current numbers comparison Odor is indeed ahead while being almost 1 year younger. But, Sardinas is 6'1" 160 to Odor's 5'11" 170. To me that leaves Sardinas with fillout to come on his frame. Whether that leads to more "Pop" in his bat or not is tbd but it's something to consider currently when side by side comparisons between the two. As to the Pitching, From what I can read thus far, Jackson,Ramirez, and Edwards are kinda underdogs overachieving than what their ability would dictate. Producing solid #3 numbers for guys who may be #3 or 4s in the future but not 2s. I can't even find C.J. Edwards on Scouting Book. I just look at it as, eh, for Pitching. Reading MLB.com preseason writeups none of Texas' Pitchers ranked above Average all 4s with 5 potential except..#20:Victor Payano Scouting Grades* (present/future): Fastball: 6/6 | Curveball: 5/6 | Changeup: 4/5 | Control: 4/5 | Overall: 4/6 When you're 6-foot-6 and left-handed, you're going to get noticed. When you have a fastball that can touch 96 mph, you have the chance to go a long way in this game. Payano's numbers have yet to completely catch up to his potential, but his upside is considerable. Along with that fastball, Payano has an overhand curve that should be a plus pitch and he has a feel for a changeup as well. He's getting better at throwing strikes and is still working on consistently repeating his delivery. When that happens, the sky might be the limit. 6'6" 185 currently and 20yrs. old in A+ball. I'd take the upside of him over any of the others because that is what the Brewers need to find. Guys that can exceed #3 potential. If we can't find a pitcher that comes with #2 potential, then I'm not really all for it unless those #3s are packaged with a high Upside Bat instead.

How much longer does Jack Z get in Seattle
brewcrewdue80 replied to jjfanec's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Sveum, there's Nick Franklin,Brad Miller, and Mike Zunino as bats that are beginning there career for Seattle recently. I proposed a Carlos Gomez for Franklin, Hultzen, and Paxton I think kind of deal before they extended Gomez. As to the topic, no, I don't think he gets fired. and Franklin,Miller, and Zunino will be why. He managed to extend Felix, something I wouldn't have believed possible. And to me, allowing Jack Z. to do so had to go in line with seeing him remaining GM for 2-3years longer. If I were the owner, and Jack Z. came to me with Felix's proposed deal, if I didn't believe in the direction Jack Z. had the team going, I would have told him it was time to let him go by either trading him or with a QO when he became a FA. On the other side of the coin, if Jack Z. were fired, could a reunion happen with firing Melvin and hiring Jack Z. as GM? -
Since no new IGT being used. I'm using this one for tonights game to say this. Gallardo again with high pitch count 1 batter in to the 6th and 91pitches. He just can't pitch in to the 7th inning. It's amazing nobody has fixed his mechanics to ever help his pitch count. It's been accepted rather than worked on. Another sign that this team doesn't have the right people in place, Melvin/RRR/Kranitz. All of them are on the same page that Gallardo isn't the problem to be fixed that his "Stuff" leads to these outings. If I were Melvin, I'd call BS on say look if you can't work on him to fix his pitch counts then I am finding someone who will. It's unacceptable for me to call Gallardo the "Ace" on this team when our Ace, can't find his way in to the 7th inning. Especially after Peralta just went a CG?! Seriously, where's that random outing by Gallardo?

Time to trade Gallardo?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I know Gallo is showing crazy power in A-ball, but he seems to be hopelessly horrendous defensively and is striking out at a 38.5% rate. I heard a Russell Branyan comp recently that made me chuckle given the affinity for Branyan among BF.netters. The comparison was mostly due to the fact Gallo (26 HRs) is chasing Branyan's Sally League HR record of 40. If I was going after a high upside position player in the lower levels of the Rangers organization, it wouldn't be Gallo or Lewis Brinson, but instead 18 year old Ronald Guzman. He is a left handed hitting 1B with good size. While he doesn't project to hit for a ton of power, he makes up for it with an exceptional hit tool which was rated by Baseball Prospectus as his best overall tool. I mentioned him in another thread on Guzman. One of those I read about and think, well what if? What if he finds a little more power stroke? Lift in the ball with carry? He fills his frame out to a strong 240lb 1b? Segura can hit. You read on Guzman and it's that he can hit. Nobody imagined Segura's power stroke being what it is already and I just wonder if Guzman is the type that follows in his footsteps. A 13-16HR type player but really finds himself hitting 25HRs frequently? That said, the Rangers paid a hefty penny for him, so they obviously liked him and they may love him more than what we are talking about here. Guzman may be that kind of minor leaguer that won't be involved in trade availability for at least another 2 years as the Rangers figure out what they have in him. -
Olt I think should be frowned at. I'd take Gallo over him if we have to go with 30%+K hitters. Since he's been up from his vision problem. 46ks in 115PAs. including 14 in last 31. 20BBs. .234 BA with 7HRs. He's 25 years old. Trading for him results in age 26-31 seasons for Milwaukee out of him. And that's with him likely have a 2-3year learning curve with his vision and K problem. So the moment he's truly ready to produce as a ML hitter, he's a year removed from his prime? And his vision wasn't corrected. He takes eyedrops to help it out. So let's look at it in a worse projection. What if his vision worsens from something underlying yet to be diagnosed? What if Mike Olt's career ends the moment it's supposed to begin due to this problem? Why, would we want that risk? This isn't an aged 20yr old player with the talent of Manny Machado we're talking about. He's 25 with more questions than one should have to entertain at this point. I would almost wonder on taking a bet that Olt doesn't play another 200 ML games from this point forward. Because once he busts it's only going to last 1 year before he's given up on.
-
Well what he says and what he does is two things. Except he's now stated both what he wants to do in trade that is possible. ML ready prospects or 2-3years away prospects. So this means he's going to trade for Veterans with 1-2years team control left with that logic
-
Thanks. It should be the first of a number of rumors for Aoki. He can flat out hit for pennies on the dollar. The pennies on the dollar is worth a C+ to B-Prospect alone. And then Aoki himself I said is worth a B Prospect. Maybe he nabs a B+ prospect due to competition. I'm concerned that I'm reading in the comments on the MLBTR that Melvin "Is asking for players that will help the team in 2014" WTH! Gone! Fire Melvin! This pi@#es me off to change tactic from 2-3 years away to asking for immediate help in 2014. That to me means the return in trade is strictly ML ready C prospects. Nothing special but useful players. If these players were capable of helping their team's in 2014 with an impact, then they certainly shouldn't be made available....Unless those prospects are B+ trending towards C like Skaggs or Olt and the DBacks/Rangers are actually selling high today vs. lower in the future with continued decline. Or, God help us, the team isn't even trading for prospects anymore. But like the Atl/Arz. trade a ML vet. is acquired like Chris Johnson/Martin Prado. First it was not signing Lohse and playing our young pitching. To signing Lohse. Then it was Prospects 2years away to now trading for players for next season? Melvin. You're an idiot. You have no plan laid out on how to run an organization. You simply fly it by the seat of your pants....Reacting....Vs. being Proactive with a future outlook in all the decisions you make.
-
Could there be a strong market for Lohse?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I didn't want to go over to quote you Monty but: 2 yrs./28mil is not the issue here with Lohse or even his age or fear of decline. Because what is Boston's excuse for signing Dempster to 2/26.5? Kansas City signing Jeremy Guthrie 3/25 with age 35/36 years being at 2/20? The issue was losing the 1st rd. draft pick and the assigned slot value with it. The draft is a crap shoot. A B prospect is different than being able to sign away a HS kid with projectability but needing refining skills. Signing Lohse the way I look at it, cost Milwaukee Sean Manaea. That's a Game Changer for KC now. Manaea would be the best prospect in our system if we followed Scouting Book's rankings. We lost Manaea by signing Lohse. The other teams didn't cave and lose out on that opportunity. Now, Jungmann/Bradley/Roache/Coulter are they even B prospects? But if we had drafted Jose Fernandez,Taylor Guerrieri, Joey Gallo, or Lance McCullers I think all of them are B or B+ prospects with Fernandez an A. So to me giving up a B prospect or 2 for Lohse with anything else is of less hurt to a Franchise, than to give up the draft pick if the possibility lurked to come away with an A prospect. That's how Lohse went unsigned. I can probably find 1st rd. picks ahead of Milw's last season that would be like C or worst level prospects that would be given up now with knowledge of the outcome of selected that player vs. signing Lohse. But you can't know that until a year goes by after the draft. The question Monty is. If Kyle Lohse were a FA after this season and he commanded a 2yr contract w/o worry on losing a draft pick....What does he get? I wouldn't doubt 2/25 minimum if not 2/30. Yankees bought back Kuroda for 15mil when the guy wanted to retire. Again Dempster 2/26.5 I thought the rumor mill was Lohse was asking for 3/45 to begin with. @Buster_ESPN Club officials say Scott Boras continues to ask for $14 million-$15 million a year from those interested in FA pitcher Kyle Lohse. 6:03 AM - 24 Mar 2013 So what Lohse is "Owed" the next 2 years is exactly what he was commanding last year. It just comes at the cost of at least a couple prospects vs. losing a Team's #1 draft pick. So to me Lohse's money owed isn't a problem to have to deal with in trade. Just agreeing on the right prospect package for him. -
Random MLB News And Discussion 2013
brewcrewdue80 replied to hawing's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
They seem to think he could be a better 2B than 3B and maybe that is the case, but it just seems like an odd move to try now. He is struggling with the bat and now he is going to try to move to a new position? Did we forget he spent his first 2 minor league seasons with the Brewers at 2b? He only moved off of it because Weeks was incumbent and not going anywhere anytime soon. This leaves Toronto with a fixed 2b and a need at 3b....sorta. Bautista and Encarnacion both are maneuverable to play 3b.
