  1. I like BA/MLB but ranking 16-year-old international prospects seems pretty nonsensical to me. Maybe there is a consensus generational-type talent every once in a while, but I don't think spending $2+ million on a 16-year-old (whatever "scouts" grade him) is really netting you a "very good prospect" These players getting $750k-$3m are all relatively interchangeable I think. Maybe the guys at the higher end of that scale are slightly more impressive, but we're not talking a huge difference in baseball money/talent here. I wish there were a history of who the top 5 or 10 international prospects were at the time of being able to sign these 16yr olds to look back on and see how many never made it or how many actually were legit ballplayers. BA had a piece from an article(newspaper) of when Miami signed Miguel Cabrera in 1999 and it stated he was the jewel of this year's crop. It would at least back up my assumption. I more or less was thinking that with the Brewers only connected to 1 top 30 international player they weren't going to sign anyone else in the top 30 after Pierre. But they can Franly Mallen who also went at 800k. So 1.6mil of the 2.227mil available on two top 30 players. I really just want to see them get an arm. (I don't know how Nelson Hernandez will turn out being outside top 30 consideration) A highly touted one. It'd be great if they nabbed Jen-Ho Tseng though it would likely come with the team trading for slot money to accomplish this. What the Cubs did is pretty spectacular nabbing the #1/2 players and 15th ranked. OF/SS/RHP The Brewers are going to have a very hard time competing with the Cubs if their prospects pan out. Baez,Soler,Almora,Vizcaino.
  2. I said it in another discussion. I would be very upset if the Brewers signed Hart to play 1b next season. There's zero advantage to it. My assumption of money is likely in the Josh Willingham price range. 3yrs/21million. Or shorter value of 2/16 1/8 or 1/9. That is money that personally, I'd want to be used for Segura's contract extension locking him up. It won't work that way since Segura even if extended today won't make more than 1.5mil next season or a combined 7mil next year and the year after. But, if I was going to set aside some payroll money for Segura, not signing Hart would be the very first thing I do. Morris/Gamel will be everyday first base next year. Really just Morris. I expect him to be a September callup getting his feet wet and after Spring Training next season roll in to 1b for the season. The premise right now is Morris doesn't look ready. He has all of July. All of August. All of September if need be to show something that he looks ready. Morris has flashes of good streaks down there, and I'm sure it will occur more often as he sees that pitching another time through and another time through making adjustments. So why sign Corey Hart? I wouldn't be surprised to see the Yankees sign him to a lucrative 2 year deal maybe 2/22. It makes a lot of sense as they are constructed. Whether Hart plays 1b with Texiera DH'ing or the opposite Hart at DH/Tex at 1b.
  3. I like the thinking. Problem is a lot of GM's don't like to "trade within the division" because they're scared of the trade coming back to bite them more than it would in a different division/league. I hate that, take the best offer regardless of team but it always needs to be taken into consideration. This was my response to John Briggs saying basically the same thing. Messed up the Quote and it got mixed within the Quote: I understand that completely. But in reality it's a pitcher like Glasnow in 2 years for Milwaukee in our rotation facing the likes of Cole,Taillon, and Heredia. If I'm Pittsburgh I'd say to myself, we still have the better pitching to go against who we are giving up.
  4. What is the purpose of sitting Segura,Gomez, and Lucroy? I can understand with Gomez though as he's been slumping the last few days and having poor ABs. But Luc...oh Peralta..Yeah...Ok but Segura?
  5. Franly Mallen is MLB's #22 to go with Pierre's #28. so two top 30 signings. I'm glad to see a Pitcher out of the group
  6. Here's a question. If BA/MLB can rank these kids with a top 30 in mind. And as the Brewers you have 2.227mil to use towards them. Why would target the lower rung 20/28th ranking? and not just go like KC or White Sox and just put the money on the kid with the highest prospect ranking for your money? Gleyber Torres #2/3 ranking went to the Cubs for 1.7mil. Throw 2mil at the kid and call it a day acquiring 1 very good prospect vs. 2 maybe 3 so-so maybe potential prospects. MLB's read on Torres: Scouting Grades* (present/future): Hit: 4/6 | Power: 4/6 | Run: 4/4 | Arm: 5/6 | Field: 5/5 The top player from Venezuela in this year's class, Gleyber does everything well. He has a smooth compact swing and the ball jumps off his bat. Scouts like that he can spray the ball all over the field with power and believe he has a chance to be a special hitter. A solid defender, Torres has excellent hands, great feet and he's known to have an accurate arm with above-average strength. He's impressed scouts with his ability to make all of the routine plays and an occasional great play. He is particularly adept on his glove-hand side and continues to show improvement on all-around defense. Torres isn't the biggest prospect on the field but he has an athletic build and is strong for his size. Scouts have taken notice of his baseball instincts and his leadership abilities, and he quickly built a reputation as a fundamentally sound player. MLB's Read on Pierre: Scouting Grades* (present/future): Hit: 3/5 | Power: 3/4 | Run: 4/5 | Arm: 4/5 | Field: 4/5 Figueroa, at 6-foot-3 and 175 pounds, has speed in the outfield and projects as a center fielder. Overall, Figueroa has been praised for his wiry, projectable body and his above-average athleticism, but there is some concern about his lack of games. There are also some scouts that question his baseball instincts, but he is expected to get better with experience. Figueroa has all the tools scouts are looking for and has shown that he can hit in games. His bat is said to be his best tool because he can spray the ball to all fields but he's also a good baserunner. However, Figueroa might not be the strongest prospect on the market and his strength could be one area of focus once he signs with a team As a fan who would you be more excited for? Torres' scouting grades today rank about what Pierre's scouting grades for the future? Just go out get the #1 talent for your money and be done with it.
  7. Not until all is said and done, they can still trade for bonus pool space. But as I read it, it's 50% of their allotment that they can traded for. And supposedly they did with the Marlins. From 1.9427mil +50% so then they had 2,914,050 to spend max before penalties. Those 3 signings equal 4.45mil easily over slot with the bonus pool.
  8. I wouldn't speculate this is only about the bonus pool money. Arrieta could turn a corner. Really the guy on a losing team is the kind of player that you would like to acquire if you can showcase him and then flip him again. And I wouldn't doubt it could happen before the trade deadline if Arrieta has 3 outta 4 decent starts for Chicago. Someone speculated as a potential throw with Garza in trade on MLBTR. Nice speculation if you ask me.
  9. I can't find any video of Nicolas Pierre. One photo on IPL's page. No stats on him either. sigh.
  10. And That found more videos following your single video. His swing seems long from the side(not a scout just my opinion) but from the OF view in this video, I like it's path through the zone
  11. The Orioles also got pool money(worth up to 979k) for the international signings so, that may be more at hand here than Feldman. The thing I don't like about Feldman is the guy hasn't pitched over 150ip since 2009. He's already above 90 this year. I'd be very concerned with his arm becoming fatigued for the stretch run unless you move him to Bullpen. Edit:Oh Crap. I read that the other way! the Cubs got bonus pool money not the Orioles! Whoa that's a good haul by the Cubs. What is Baltimore thinking then? Feldman is going to get rocked.

  13. Well, with Pierre or actual last name being Figueroa, you have to like his body frame. He doesn't have a future scouting grade above average on MLB at this point. So that's disappointing. Hopefully gaining experience and filling out that frame he grades above average in a few areas.
  14. So the Rangers have just committed another 1.3mil to Marcos Diplan when their other two signings of Yeyson Yrizarri for $1.35MM and Jose Almonte for $1.8MM already put them over their slot with the 50% bonus. So they should be losing a 1st round pick now no?
  15. Let's jump to 2014/15 offseason. What kind of contract offer would you put up for Aoki? I'm curious what he could make. I don't know what he would have gotten if he went through Arb, but by Aoki getting to be a FA, I'm happy for him, as he can likely make more money than the Arb would have gotten him. 2years/12mil? 2years/14mil?
  16. I just look at it as, 100 players would be 1/12 of all 30teams 40man rosters. And you would think certain teams would have more players involved(sharing) than others. Avg is 3 per team but if it's 100+ on this list you just know at least 8 or more players are going to be listed that ARE ON THE SAME TEAM. Imagine the Yankees/Red Sox both being those teams. How's that work for them? If the suspensions are handed out and one of them lost 8 players while making a playoff run? And I mention those two teams because let's remember, ARod on Yankees. Manny Ramirez Red Sox. adding: And I mention this because how do the fans take seeing 8players removed from their team? If I were a ticketholder I'd demand refunds from MLB for forcing a AAA team to be put out on the field. And that my ticket should be priced accordingly. And, on top of this let's go ahead and put Braun on the guilt list. You know who else now could be suspect on the Brewers for using steroids? Corey Hart. A man who can't recover from offseason workouts, something Steroids assists in right? How do you break down both knees in the same year through workouts? It's speculation, but steroids as we know was thought of as helping players recover. Anyone take a look across MLB this season and see more injured players vs normal? I guess 100players or more are missing out on their steroids right?
  17. Sweet 100 players. Get them all MLB. That's 4 team's worth you have to go suspend. Suspend all 100, 100games like you want to Braun. I can't wait for one team to have 10players suspended 100games...( I hope not the Brewers) but yeah, if they are going to go after ARod and Braun and realize the ramnifications that could be dug up in doing so, I want them to be forced to suspend every player on that list 100games if it's 100players now.
  18. [quote name="And That" I think the Pirates would like him' date=' but I don't think they'd like him enough to part with the package the Brewers would probably ask for from a division foe.[/quote] I understand that completely. But in reality it's a pitcher like Glasnow in 2 years for Milwaukee in our rotation facing the likes of Cole,Taillon, and Heredia. If I'm Pittsburgh I'd say to myself, we still have the better pitching to go against who we are giving up. Tabata's career WAR is .9 in 330+games. Aoki has accumulated 5.4WAR in 228 games. Aoki is an upgrade. Lefty with Tabata Righty so could easily see a platoon end up in the situation. Pittsburgh is at a point now where they have to commit through this. They can't blow this season.
  19. Maldonado is not getting you an upgraded prospect. A backup defensive catcher is not going to get you an increase in prospects unless that defensive backup catcher is young which Maldonado is not. Lucroy would increase the value Maldonado would just be a throw in player who gets you a AAAA player. So Russell Martin with Mike McHenry as backup is appealing to Pittsburgh vs. making it Russell Martin with Martin Maldonado as backup? I'm not suggesting Martin gets a top quality player on his own merit. But if Pittsburgh kicks the tires on trading Nick Kingham and Tyler Glasnow for Aoki. Improving Pittsburgh's backup Catcher situation by offering a better Maldonado than McHenry may be appealing to do the deal. Anyway, It was thinking of a way to make a deal happen. I thought Pitts. Catcher prospect was more than a year away but it looks like they could just call him up now to improve their backup situation.
  20. That's good to hear from you Crew. I like to think that Aoki fits the Pirates the best for this season and next season's run for Pittsburgh. Cheap top of the order bat. Pittsburgh's strength in the farm is Pitching. Cole,Taillon,Heredia. I believe they can afford to part with one or two Upside SPs. I'd sweeten the deal with any number of RP they wanted. Maybe even throw in Maldonado to upgrade the prospect return.
  21. Bianchi ended the walk futility in the 9th. It was 31 consecutive innings between Brewer Walks. And Roenicke wonders why whispers of this team has quit are arising?
  22. That is essentially exactly what is about to happen. Gallardo will have to dominate every start til the deadline to get his value back now. Just being Avg. 4ERA these last two starts through to the deadline would have been better than these poor outings. Even if he goes lights out, and his ERA these last two starts forward to the deadline winds up at 3.5ERA, I think the perception of him being a #3/4 doesn't change. Whereas the 4ERA string of starts would have still had teams believing he was a #3 with 2upside. 7ip 17hits 6BBs 7Ks 11ER! Ugly. I'm going to add that Gallardo no avgs. approx 5.2ip a start which gives him a projection of just 192.1IP in 34GS w/o improvement. That would be 12IP less with 1 Extra Game started from last season. He needs to avg. 6.1 IP the rest of the year to get to 200IP. On the flip Side, Jose Fernandez just put himself on pace for 185IP with a dominating 8ip 2h 10k 1BB performance. Boy, you cant ask for a worse 2011 Draft than Milwaukee's. I wonder what the Career WAR of our 2 picks are going to end up vs. the Career WAR of the 2 HS pitchers they failed to draft Fernandez and Taylor Guerrieri? Or Stephenson? Or Meyer? Or Ross? I mean it appears based on prospects ranks, that SPs in that draft were can't miss, and yet the Brewers swung and missed twice!
  23. If you were the acquiring team, would you agree to any of these deals? That's probably the easiest quick-and-dirty way to analyze what Aoki's value is/should be. Aoki's MLB career OPS is .768, and this season so far it's .733. Adding in the fact that he's basically just average on defense leaves me not expecting to get much for 1.5 seasons of him. That's just not very special production at a corner OF spot. His cheap salaries will help his value, however. I don't know if these teams would do my trade suggestion. My guess is the small market teams would overpay more for Aoki in value since it comes with a cheap pricetag. I think Tampa would do the deal I think Pittsburgh could do the deal though maybe not Heredia some other prospect with Glasnow like Kingham. With Cleveland and Texas it's more or less bigger named prospects that have regressed in value. Olt is 24 turning 25next season. He has 6years of team control remaining no matter if he makes the club next or not his clock has been started. Bauer has the stuff, not the results. Maybe he's never going to see the results come and be a quick flame out. As to San Diego, it's to be determined what they do at the deadline. Certain teams like Pitt/Tampa/SD/KC/Texas these teams have a need for today and next season but then when Aoki becomes a FA should have a suitable Prospect to replace Aoki with. I think that adds value to Aoki. His rental time suits a number of Playoff Caliber teams who could use him until their future RF prospects project to make it to the ML roster. And then it's at that time I'd imagine Aoki as a Free Agent becomes a 4th/5th OF to platoon or be used as insurance for a team with these prospects. At least if as you show his OPS continues to fall as he ages next season and projects to fall again then in 2015.
  24. I think Yovani Gallardo just became a #4 SP in Pitching Value for Trade. One that isn't getting his option picked up by the team who trades for him. Yovani went from getting 90cents to the $1 in ask for trade and now I don't think he can get Melvin .30cents to his original $1 in trade. Means a team's top 5 prospect and top 10 prospect just became a teams top 12 prospect and a team's 20-25th prospect.
  25. Is Harper returning from the DL for this game? Can't even face the Nats. when their #1 player is out. Oh, our luck this season.
