  1. WAR includes Defense. Not just Offense. But they're both about the same in that regard. WAR just has that factor built in on position and in this case Catcher must start at a neg. And the OF starts at a positive WAR.
  2. Let me better that Bombers: May 20th hitting .208 OPS of .596 Today: .279 OPs of .783 He's a hitter, he was going to hit. How about 40RBI on the season? I guess on pace for 88? Imagine if he could reach 100rbi?
  3. Yes, I know what return we got. I just posted what the Rangers offer was for Grienke and the fact that Melvin called for Olt(Maybe leading up to an ARam deal with Dodgers speculation) plus Perez. Rangers didn't bite and nor did Melvin. But then Melvin voiced his opinion the credit due to his scouts for finding Segura and dissed the trade that didn't happen with the Rangers stating there's (Mike Olt) a guy batting (something like .150 at the time) whom a team overvalued and didn't want to part with. It was undercutting and if I were the Rangers GM, I'd laugh off any and all calls by Melvin. I would feel confident as the Rangers GM that Melvin's tenure was coming to an end this year or next so why bother dealing with the guy? Anyway when it comes to Texas I don't think they need Gallardo. Just let Grimm/Perez pitch. They have Darvish and a very bright future with their team. They shouldn't rush to take a questionable #2 SP when they have 2 questionable #2s already on their team to throw out in the mix. (I realize this goes against my Gallardo/Aoki for Profar deal recommendation. That was more in line with a deal that I think could happen in certain circumstance...Cruz being suspended...) But, I knew my feelings with Melvin's comments making a deal with Texas seem unrealistic.
  4. If Lohse was on a 2year contract I'd believe that but that 3rd year just not going to look all to appealing to Baltimore. They also have a number of guys in Arb that they will either have to cut bait on or move in the bullpen. Guys like Arrieta, Matusz, Tillman, and Gonzalez. My guess is they would send us one of them in the trade for Lohse plus a prospect but not to be anyone amazing. I think Nate has been an Arrieta fan for awhile so I'm sure that would be doable for him. I don't know if that whole throw another piece out there may work to maybe get Schoop who has 3b experience just playing 2b to reach the team sooner. It does get ugly in their bullpen after Jim Johnson,Darren O'Day, and TJ McFarland, and Tommy Hunter.
  5. Okay with Bianchi back and Francisco on the team the fact that Yuni remains on the team is maddening. .233 OB after today's game. Of players with 150PA this season he is the 3rd worst behind Will Middlebrooks and Danny Espinosa(How is it even possible to have under .200 OB? I'd think you could leave the bat on your shoulders and the pitcher would walk you at almost once every 6 PAs! But really, what is the point anymore? You never had him on your team for defensive purposes, it was strictly for occasional ability with the bat. We got it the first month of the season. They should have traded him/released him then!
  6. Well one when you look at those teams I can guess: Detroit's Victor Martinez being in the bottom 4 on his team with a Weeks' like disappointing season. Add Miguel Montero on Arizona. Braves have BJ Upton. For the Rockies, that is surprising as their top of the lineup should be special. I can't think who at the bottom is hitting better than any in the top 5. I believe the weakest hitters should see the least amount of ABs. Definitely 7/8/9 worst should bat 7/8/9. How does letting a player who has a negative impact batting see more PAs help the team? Over a guy who is better with the bat seeing Less PAs? This was my basis on the entire thought process/idea to bat Jean Segura ahead of Weeks before the season even began. And the argument thrown back at me was pretty much that question. I just happened to believe Segura would bat comparably to Weeks/ potentially better whereas those against didn't believe it. Other notes is that Gomez spent quite a number of games batting 7th this season, so it hasn't just been a lineup all season long with the 4 worst hitters batting the last 4 in the lineup.
  7. H&T it wasn't 15 of 17 games. Was stated or miss-stated as 15 of 17 series. So you are looking at pretty much 53 games winning better than 2/3rds so 70% which means the Brewers going 37-39 wins and 14-16losses in such a stretch. Okay I forget losing 2 series so drop down 2 wins so 35-37wins and 16-18losses in the stretch. 15 out of 17 games is also suspect as it's an 88% win pct vs. the near 70% to win 15 of 17 series. I think it is tougher to do in the NL than the AL currently as clearly the better ACE pitching resides in the NL. I guess this is more in line that I thought Toronto would win the East. Detroit the Central. And then Baltimore 1 of the Wild Cards. No one else in the AL stands out to me. In the NL clearly Atlanta/Washington/St. Louis/Cinncy were head and shoulders above the next tier of teams who are competitive in Pitt/San Fran/Ariz/LADodgers. Facing competition like that, it isn't likely to go on either runs. I think losing 15 of 17 or 15 of 17 series is more likely to happen than winning but even that is hard to fathom.
  8. Wow, interesting. I never knew that. But has there ever been an instance the RP who completed the 5th inning with the team ahead not go on to get credit for the win when a change of RP in the 6th inning and that RP getting credit for the win? Of course the lead never relinquinshed obviously.
  9. Well PFx that is great news. It sure sounded like he had broken/dislocated his shoulder. A Sprain is really conforting as a broken bone you worry if it affects his play just when he had gotten himself to being the star.
  10. Well, with Gomez's injury we will see just how well Logan Schafer can play everyday CF. I don't know whether to think ah man the bad luck continues, or to think this is beyond good luck. This entire FO is being handed every reason to make all the right moves to rebuild and fix the mistakes of previous decisions. If Schafer does well in CF then that clearly opens the door for the OffSeason trade Gomez should be. All the injuries are going to lead to a top 5 draft pick. Trading away Gomez. ARam/Gallardo too should all net a reasonable return for the immediate future. Every bad thing that keeps happening is actually a good thing for the Franchise.
  11. For current purposes, I wouldn't trade Segura away just on the fact there's no one remotely close to play SS on this team in replacement of Segura. Couple other names that may warrant mentioning in this hypothetical scenario. Chris Davis or Paul Goldschmidt. But again, there's just no SS for this team moving Segura and that is why I'll take Segura over Trout. Hitting SS with great D as Segura don't grow on trees. Put it this way. Where does Segura rank at SS today in all of Baseball? Troy Tulowitzki and? I think it stops after him only. I think only Ian Desmond can be brought in to the conversation with Tulo and Segura. When we talk CF and who's the Best. You may put Trout 1st others may go McCutchen or Adam Jones and Gomez is in the conversation at this point. Trout's tier in ability isn't as far separated as Segura's is to the competition at their respective positions.
  12. I'd have a hard time seeing Haniger go in the trade scenario as well as Coulter. Roache though, definitely underwhelming thus far. Maybe some other team would overvalue him and his potential and give up a couple hott prospects..a SP a year away and another High upside SP a few years away if panned out. Something in the lines of ARam and Roache to LAD for Zach Lee and say Ross Stripling. Sure LA has a set OF for awhile but Roache could be the late blooming type in development with his plus power that is there when the Crawfords/Ethiers are removed. Sorry to post a proposal here, just meant more as an example of what tossing one of our prospects along with the veteran could accomplish.
  13. As far as I know the win goes to the Pitcher with the lead after the 15th out in the game. Through 5ip. Hand was 1out away from earning that distinction. So whoever took over and got that out should have been the winner. It's not the most effective reliever gets the win. Heck, Closers all the time blow their save opportunity only for the team to bail them out score runs in the bottom of the 9th/top of 10th and get them the win. As for Hand, I expected 3ip+ meaning pitching in to the 4th 2-4ER. Honestly, being realistic. But then again what is this? the 3rd shutout by our all RP games?
  14. Pretty amazing that the Brewers Pitching of all things hold Atlanta to b2b Shutouts! I gotta tell ya, if I were an Atlanta fan right about now, I'd be freaking at how awful their offense can be. This is what happens when you have a team filled with guys with high K-Rates. Justin Upton's early season run was never going to last playing in the NL East parks and Turner Field. The Upton experience was one you wondered would propel the two or I think now is dragging both. Justin getting asked what's wrong with his brother just has to where on him. K-Rod his 300th save congrats to him. Curious why he wasn't closing the game out yesterday? KRod And Weeks and Gallardo, are all quietly putting themselves back in good graces in deemed value.
  15. Kinda lost in this discussion is the fact that Melvin in an interview basically ripped on Texas and Olt. One would think a bridge is burned for a trade to happen between the two teams for a year or two. But this is Transaction rumors/proposals so just running with the idea. Remember the trade offer last season for Grienke was Buckel,Grimm, and a third I cannot remember I guess Leury Garcia. Give Melvin credit sticking to his demands of Perez and/or Olt Link to a story about the deadline: http://www.bbtia.com/home/2012/7/28/the-zack-greinke-trade-the-rangers-and-what-happens-now.html I just think a trade with Texas wont be happening this year after Melvin's comments and the breakdown in getting a deal done last season.
  16. Here's a blow it out of your league proposal suddenly. Brewers Trade ARam to Toronto for Aaron Sanchez plus maybe someone else. Lawrie has spent a few games at 2b in AAA. Not to mention he began with the Brewers at 2b. Currently Toronto is using Macier Izturis and Emilio Bonifacio as 2b/3b. Lawrie's return and move to 2b with ARam to 3b. Reyes off DL Toronto's lineup would just be amazing. Considering Toronto's go after moves, this would potentially be reasonable to assume. I don't know where they get 1 more SP with the lack of success their staff has had overall but maybe they go in to it with we'll just pound out the other team's staff for more runs than what our guys give up attitude? Dickey/Buerle/Johnson all are above what is expected from them maybe they warm up more in the summer months. Either way, if the idea of trading ARam to Toronto happens, who do you ask for in return? Just Sanchez? Sanchez plus who?
  17. Yes Danzig when I read the Scouting on him its that he has supposedly a Plus changeup to go with 93/4MPH fastball. Something I guess if harnessed he'd potentially pose some lights out outings. The other would be that he made it to AA ball as an 18yr old. But yes, he's really stalled ever since then when it comes to stats.
  18. You're right Danzig when it comes to Trout, Didn't know he'd heated up back towards last season's pace (slightly off) I do think long term Segura will continue with the SBs, whereas Trout over a period of time loses that factor. Not saying he can't do it, but I think his body frame fills out to where the club doesn't ask him to do as much. Still, either way, putting SS higher in my list of importance, I'd think about it rather than just do it. I guess the thing here is, Trout's year was so strong last season, it's hard to fathom him improving on it by much. Segura meanwhile has growth yet I believe especially when showing off the power already this season. Which is better? a 30/30 guy in CF with a .400ish OB? Or a 25/40 guy at SS with a .360OB? There is Manny Machado we failed to mention. He's behind both Trout/Segura in HRs/SBs but still the man is raking. 33Dbls already this season. You gotta figure a number of those turn to HRs in a year or two.
  19. Danzig, you probably hit on it as far as valuing Segura. If strictly on a one for one trade. I'd take nobody over Segura. How can anyone not want a top notch SS? When it comes to overall value I'd probably place SS/CF and SP in that order of the highest upside I would want to build my team. So Segura being of the utmost highest upside at SS, frankly makes him the most valuable player out there. I will say a guy that makes me think based on how he's begun his career is Yasiel Puig. But I don't think he's an everyday CF. But what that guy has done thus far is definitely as impressive as Segura. I think you could make a case for Jose Fernandez after his beginning if you seek a SP along with Harvey and Miller. But really 1 for 1, nobody out there at this moment strikes me worthy to trade for, for Segura.
  20. http://mlbreports.com/2013/06/18/gallardotrade/ There was this posting about Gallardo trade market. Really these 4 teams to trade with who would we even bother asking for? If Gausman isn't available Baltimore really doesn't have enough guys I'd take in for Gallardo. Angels? Huh? We got the guys we wanted last season from them, I don't think the Angels have prospects left to attain Estrada! Giants, they have Crick but beyond that does anyone else read out as Pitcher of the future? Then there's Cleveland. Bauer? Imagine Uecker watching Peralta/Bauer as Starters. 4-7BBs games? Danny Salazar? I just don't see the talent on these teams to want to trade with. Figuring Gausman/Bauer are off the market. It leaves Crick plus who? Maybe you go with Stratton or Blackburn and take on Catcher Andrew Susac. End result moving Coulter from Catcher duties.
  21. BTW, the KRod in 8th and the whole LouisEly wondering with Narveson's move. Making space for a Trade potentially with Tigers. Could they have asked for Axford to close in a game to judge who they wanted potentially? It will be interesting to see who comes on in the 9th.
  22. Stole the words out of my mouth. Do we dare see Axford in the 9th? Btw, Peralta 7innings shutout ball. Nice work. For his struggles this season, I don't want to see him moved down to AAA. He may not be the #2 we all hope he can become but if as a #4/5 on the team long term, if he can provide #2 type outings from time to time there's a place for him.
  23. There has to be someone else noticing that when Aoki sits out a game or two and comes back in the lineup he goes on a multi-hit tear! Some team out there has to look at him as a fantastic Platoon situation in the OF no?
  24. Wow, really? So the Gorzellany as Spot Starter era ended already?
  25. My guess is for KRod or Axford we'd deal with another RP like Melvin Mercedes. But I do like the idea of Jake Thompson if he can be wiggled away.
