Why would it be funny? It would almost be perfect wouldn't it? The Mets got Johan Santana at his prime. Meanwhile Gomez stunk up the joint until showing glimpses end of 2011 and moreso throughout last season. And now he's at his prime age showcasing what his supposed high ceiling as a prospect was all about. Trading for prime seasons over development seasons isn't a bad idea for a "Rich" Franchise. If it's a Power/Speed combo they want, I don't know how many other OF fit it any better than Gomez currently. I know the idea of extending Gomez makes a trade sound unlikely but when he's the quickest asset you likely have that could turn your franchise for the best the quickest? Didn't someone say it's great to waste Braun's prime years? Adding a Zach Wheeler/Syndergaard could quickly turn us around by end of next season. Staying with Lohse, Wheeler and Peralta, hoping to get 1 of our SPs in the minors to be our 4th and Syndergaard joining the team this time of year next season? Just like that we're relevant again while having Segura/Braun/Lucroy. In fact, if the move is made you now look at keeping Aramis, or at least change your price higher if a team wants him. But no, we'll go the other route, keep Gomez take on lesser prospects and build this up slowly, thinking the opportunity the Mets likely are presenting us will appear again if needed.

General thoughts on the franchise.

So Option years matter for prospects for legitimate prospects who keep getting hurt and lose development time At 1b this would fit with Gamel and Green no? Could it be they aren't moving Morris up to save his options because they wont have options with Gamel and Green next season? -
The Mets have stated their want for a cornerstone OF. It appears off a Mets board their interest is in Austin Jackson,Peter Bourjos, Shin Soo Choo, Willingham, and Joyce. Ozuna,Carlos Gonzalez, and Stanton are dreaming scenarios as likely Jackson is too but keeping that in mind. Someone mentioned Ethier but again that is a guy making 20+mil a season. Thus enter Carlos Gomez imo. If the GM was alert, he'd make my offer. As Monty has said over and over, trade your position of depth(OF) for a position of Need...SP. Mets want OF. Have SP. Yes both teams are out of the race and I say to that so? If the Brewers could trade away Gomez for Wheeler plus either Syndergaard or Montero then clearly that opens the scenario to trading away Gallardo or Lohse among other SPs...Estrada/Narveson. As well as asking for other trading prospects in those deals. Or meanwhile we can go the route of trading away our lesser assets for lesser prospects at Pitching meaning non-Aces #2 upsides. Decide that Gomez is tradable in the offseason, and then are left asking potentially for the positions of need we still have to fill, say 3b or getting their Ace Wheeler with Montero but throwing away a guy or two we got in our trade deadline deals because we'd be overstocked at pitching then.... Or trade Gomez get our Aces because of it. Focus elsewhere in trade with our lesser assets. Maybe now you snag a guy like Schoop from Baltimore rather than anyone less in their system. Rather than ask for Zach Lee you get Joc Pederson or Corey Seager plus. It's just a deal that could change everything. It would likely be Syndergaard and Montero for Gomez since Wheeler is starting if done before offseason. Still, you get your Ace Pitchers that you're looking for maybe better than what you would get talking to any other team. The idea is strictly on the Mets want an OF. And rather than letting some other team sell an OF to them we are proactive to give them one they should desire more at a higher price. What if the Mets talk to the Dodgers and take Ethier and Pederson from them? for say Flores and Syndergaard? End result being Dodgers no longer need Aramis and killing 2 trade pieces for us for needed returns?
-
Gotta believe Ramirez is too expensive for Pitt. And Gindl joining them doesn't help them today. Playoffs are about performing this year ajd Aoki is who it will cost. My friend who's a Pitt fan said to me they have more OF prospects than MI prospects and Hanson is likely not on the trade block. So is Aoki worth Heredia? The other trade idea that should be considered is Gomez. With the Mets. Asking for 1 of Wheeler or Syndergaard and 1 of either Flores or Montero. Throw in Estrada and Kentrail Davis you take both Montero and Flores.
-
One idea just found for trade. It's within division so it could be a hard sell but: Pittsburgh trades Alen Hanson for Aoki. Hanson would fit the 2-3years from now player Melvin seeks. It sounds like Hanson would be a SS easily converted to 2b. I think this trade would push Pitt. over the top to complete their playoff run and not falter down the stretch. An Aoki/Tabata Platoon if need be but really mostly Aoki to bat atop the order ahead of Marte/McCutchen. Cole is their Staying power for pitching, Aoki is their staying power for hitting. If I were Melvin, considering the ending of Pittsburgh's 20+years of under .500 ball on the line with Playoff implications, I'd try hard to take advantage of that fact. It wouldn't be a desperate move for Pitt.,Aoki a sound affordable bat for them. But the Brewers collect an impact bat for the future to pair with Segura for a nice MI combination. And when you look at oh, we traded a player within division argument, well Aoki at 31, 33 in 2 years you question really what effect it has on the Brewers when building for 2years from now and on. I love Aoki, but I feel he has limitations. I think it wouldn't take much of a decrease in his bat for him to suddenly be ineffective as a RF. See Ichiro's falloff. Could we sell Aoki to Pitt for Hansen?

Tell you what, based on Rendon's start to his career above .300 and near .400 OB showing he has the eye to take a walk. He has to be untouchable at this point. 7BBs in 59PA. While still batting over .300. No HRs yet but he's being patient at the plate, would assume once he attacks more, taking less BBs the HRs will come. Would be like Gyorko's start in San Diego. No reason Washington should trade Rendon away at this point. It'd have to be for another Franchise Bat in return imo. My solution for our threads. Washington trades Rendon to LaDodgers for Yasiel Puig. -
Then there's the tidbit, Braun's thumb hasn't improved at all....or maybe marginally. The problem being when he swings his bat. You're 11games under .500 going nowhere this season, Hart is out closer for the entire season than he his for at least half the remainder this season. May as well protect your Franchise player(and investment) at this point and put him on the DL indefinitely. Leaving him no chance of aggravating the thumb more. So the question is, how many players on the 40man have served time on the DL this season? Adding Braun would he be safe to say almost half?
-
Sickening to hear. Basically, our only real hope with Hart is that we don't even trade alone for anything but that a team takes him with another player as a wildcard to get what we ask for, for the other player. A complete waste, and definitely zero reasons to QO him. Why give him a pay raise close to 14mil? I have serious doubts at this point Hart gets anything over 7mil a season after this season. Definitely going to become a 1yr deal player until some team gives him a 2year deal to finish his career. About the only team that would remotely make sense currently to take on Hart in the AL is Oakland. Maybe Tampa Bay. Both would require us to pretty much pay his salary this season. Oakland would likely see him as a 1b/OF/DH bat to get in their lineup. Their RPs though are all producing so it's hard to fit him. Tampa on the other hand their DH slots are fairly bad, and their RPs aren't producing so maybe it works that way Hart plus RP. Maybe you get Mike Montgomery in return and whether he succeeds or not, it's better than nothing.
-
Based on the makeup of their team no. Unless we were maybe dangling Braun in trade. Detroit is such a complete team it really is a wonder they don't have a better record....oh wait the closer part. 6 walkoff losses. But obviously one of our closers aren't worth their #1 prospect. The future is a long term bright place for Detroit. Prince,Miggy,Verlander,Sherzer, this better in the AL Sanchez character, Jackson,Castellanos,Garcia Helluva core to have to patch around.
-
This Corey Hart guy you speak of... Can't come back fast enough to get Yuni off the team. Somebody else needs to boot him via a callup. I'm ready for Hunter Morris. Call him up now and waive Yuni! It's due. I have a strong lack of faith in seeing Corey Hart play within the next 30days. And if indeed he's a trade candidate then his arrival will come with his departure. We're past the date of Morris's clock being started too soon. Let's see how overmatched Morris is or isn't. How he handles himself defensively. Especially now. I realize it would be a small sample but getting an idea how are 1b of the future plays, when we are fixing to trade away a number of players, can go a long way in determining who we ask for in return.

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/potential-sellers-non-waiver-deadline-astros-marlins-brewers-white-sox-blue-jays-060613 You read Rosenthal's article and the listing of players in it. I may be a Homer but doesn't it come off as they having the best of the lot? No mentioning of Aoki in it and I can't really find anything mentioning Aoki in a trade rumor/proposal. Gives me the thinking he's either not really wanted or not available from those in the know. Our Relievers really are going to be coveted and the question is what do wanted relievers fetch in trade? I think it's going to be a given ARam plus 1 of our closers to LAD. Detroit? Closer issues. Can you pry away Leftys Adam Wilk/Casey Crosby? Oddly, while Hart isn't close to playing, you can still read buzz on taking the risk on him. Yankees especially. Anyone else seen any other trade ideas posted out there for our players?

My guessing to 3b prospects currently the club could target whether Trade Deadline or OffSeason: Wilmer Flores Mets,Cheslor Cuthbert Royals,Garin Cecchini Red Sox. Flores would maybe be apart of a deal giving away Gomez to Mets. I've already stated the Cuthbert in KC trade partner. and Cecchini from the Red Sox. Probably a deal done with Gallardo. Yeah Gallardo is going to be our main trade piece. Mets won't deal for Gomez until the OffSeason no reason to sell Gomez pre-deadline. As for Os their prospects are Gausman,Bundy,Shoop and then if falls off to long term hopefuls. Which may be why they are shopping around for a pitcher. One of those hey we'll give you our 3rd,4th,5th,and 7th prospect for so and so when that according to Scouting book ranks at 115,191,205, and 220 as prospects. -
'Stache Considering our #4 is Figaro and #5 is Piggy Back duo of Gorzo/Thornburg right now, I cant fathom an ability for the club to send Peralta down. When Estrada/Narveson/Burgos are back healthy and Peralta is showing continuing struggles then maybe the move will be justified But currently this team has 3 Starting Pitchers Peralta being one of them. As for RRR taking Peralta out to be pinch hit, well, after B2B 8inning outings by Lohse/Gallardo I'm guessing he felt confident having a fully rested bullpen to complete the game from there. Would it have been a move I did? No. I'd have let Peralta pitch til he was at least in the 80s before pinch hitting for him. Maybe the game turns for the Brewers and they go up 3-5runs and that allows Peralta to stay in the game til he reached mid 90s-100s in pitches and possible CG. This especially when RPs are starting my next two games, you figure your Bullpen is in for some abuse.

That too is a good point Torts. Trading away your pick to get to the Playoffs. Though if you are in the Playoff hunt that team is really only getting a 20s pick in return not some top 10 pick. Just due to the bust potential I get the ability of Players being able to return to school. Teams could just let a guy slide in to a lower slot pool of money degrading his value and bargaining ability if they got to own him for 5years just due to drafting him. How would that work overall? Does the team have to draft him again anyhow? Or do they own him and just have to use a different amount of money under a new/different set of rules the following year? I don't get why the draft is 40..previously 50 rounds long? Why can't it just be 20 rounds? With Free Agent signings after the draft like Football does it on the pool of players not drafted? I'd say that HS players not taken have to go the College route as well as any non-graduated College Players that made themselves available for the draft. It's the Seniors that aren't drafted that are mixed in the Free Agent pool then. This would then result in to higher slot money to be pooled for all of the 20 draft picks. And then allowing more of the teams to offer more money to the High Ceiling Players that otherwise they wouldn't risk taking due to signability concerns. Of course, the roundabout to that would be, why draft any Senior College Player. Just sign them as a Free Agent right? The other key to this is to maybe work to lower amounts signed away. the top ten picks slot money broke down as: #1:7.79mil #2:6.70mil #3:5.62mil #4:4.54mil #5:3.78mil #6:3.51mil #7:3.24mil #8:3.13mil #9:3.02mil #10:2.92mil By the time you get down to the end of the 2nd round it's 760k roughly at pick 73. Why is it that the 5th player taken is worth less than half of what the first player taken? The 2nd player worth half as much as the 6th? But then the 11th only worth half as much as the 3rd? Since the Values drop so quickly 1 to 10. I'd propose setting #1 at 4mil and then a much less regression in pool money on down the line. so that by the time you got to #73 it would be around 900k slot allotment. Now I can see the top picks being against that so I'd propose only a 5year stand of Team Control vs. 6 so they get to Free Agency quicker. 2 Pre Arbs then 3 Arb years. One would think with the lesser impact being a top 10 pick resulting in more money or top 5 pick for that matter while still having the ability to sign away picks in the 2nd round for 1mil or more would result in more BPA drafting and less Signability drafting. The end of the 3rd round was 491k and I'd think setting it at 700k like today's end of 2nd round would also help in drafting BPA. It would be at that point the money really drops off say a flat 300k round 4. A flat 250k round 5. flat 200k round 6. flat 150k round 7. Flat 125k round 8. Flat 100k round 9 to 20. End draft. Draft picks are protected in the first 3 rounds and are available for trade then as well. Since busts happen so frequently, the teams aren't throwing higher guaranteed signing bonus money to players that in all likelihood never make the team. Plus, by throwing the huge cutoff in slot money in the top 3 rounds over the 4th, if a team wants a higher ceiling player they have to draft them early. I mean looking at how the money slot worked out the #1 pick ALONE left Houston with the 8th highest Team allotment before their other 10picks. The 2nd pick worth 13th Alone in team allotment. That's just not right. 1 Houston should expect to spend more money on the draft on more often than not busts. but 2. If they select a signability pick so a 10-15th rated prospect who agrees to sign only for 3mil. That's 4.7mil now the Astros can work with drafting higher upside players other teams pass on because they cant afford them. The problem though is Houston in turn loses out on the best talent they could add on their team for more overall talent depth. Going 3 rounds with the compensation is paying off top 100 players in the draft and then letting the rest of them likely go on to school or be cheap projects. Another Rule could be added that a team must use 85% or more of the slot allotment provided regardless who they chose. Thus forcing them to sign BPA players and not signability players or saving money later in the draft. Long enough post...fun discussion

2013 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 1-5
brewcrewdue80 replied to battlekow's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Neuhas's signing. It stated the exact slot amount and a bonus to compensate his expected college fees by not attending school. something like 64,000 I wanna say. This is off the top of my head reading a day ago. So does that bonus not go in to the amount in the draft pool? Is it just 772k? or did he sign then for 836k? -
Something else that you still wonder in what MLB can do, Kansas City taking Hunter Dozier with their #8 pick and were scrutinized for it as being a player they likely could have drafted with their 2nd round selection. Kansas City signed him for 2.2mil or 937,800 below slot value. Given Manaea was a top ten consideration or around 3mil to slot value and KC having 1.623mil on the 34th pick on Manaea you're looking at roughly 2.5mil then to try to sign him. It's just odd to see the better player drafted later all because of potential cost. I guess the ability to return to college(while having an Agent) unlike in other sports dampens the idea in trading picks. I'm reading the Royals draft plan is on the fact that by selecting Dozier and paying below slot value and then selecting Manaea with only a 1.623mil slot value they stood to lose less money on their draft pool should Manaea turn around and not sign at #8. That move right there though shows how trading draft picks could be a positive as instead of worrying about losing the slot money w/o a signing they could trade down say with the Yankees to avoid losing so much without signing. It is tough to make this work when these kids have guys like Boras representing them predraft at a high school age on through college talking in to these kids ears. Telling them that their worth is above 3mil like Appel to try to gain the 5mil he now gets on top a year later. A guy like Ryan Boldt who, for awhile was mocked pre-Lohse as a Brewers pick, suffers an injury, falls down draft boards and then easily becomes a non-signee pick. He was clearly thrown a dollar figure of his worth and once that became unrealistic to where he's selected, it was I'm heading to college. So, not only does draft selections come with so much bust potential but ability to sign the Best Player Available to a deal away from going/returning to college also comes with bust potential. In the end, you would have to think the small market clubs just continue to trade down to save money even if it results in a franchise devoid of top level prospects.
-
I'm wondering if it just deals with the money slot, and the idea of "protecting teams from themselves" or say protecting the franchises fans. Take Pittsburgh/Miami/ any small market team. Hey great they have top ten draft picks 7years out of 10. But you're a small market. The higher you draft the more money comes attached and I'd think some of these small market clubs would consistently trade down for 2nd/3rd round picks to save money avoiding that top of the class pick. Maybe its because there's 40rounds of draft picks. How do you even put a value on the picks after round 10? Trade away rounds 13-30 picks for 1 4th round pick? Trade away 4-9round picks for 1 2nd? It does have appeal to me in trading away say a costly player mid-season for picks. Say 1st round only or 2nd+3rd that it offsets say acquiring a guy like Ethier/Werth and the 20mil owed to them. You can say whoa way too much money...but wait we have a 2nd 1st rd pick by paying these overpaid players. Ethier and Werth aren't terrible players, they just aren't worth 20mil/yr. Really don't know why. I found an article and it seems to point to the GMs believing the Small Markets would sell their picks away to the Big Markets. Rich get Richer. Poor stay Poor. Here: http://a.espncdn.com/mlb/columns/schwarz_alan/1383197.html I think what would need to happen is maybe lock up the draft rounds a team can use for a trade. Say only the first 4 rounds of picks. While the small clubs would be expected to tank what about trading say a successful season's #1 pick the 20s and their competitive balance pick say to another small market club's top 10 pick? I like that they slotted the money pool tied to picks. Pretty much summing up what that selection is worth and giving way to what the small market club can negotiate with that selection and not getting burned. I'd have to think the money alotted to that draft slot has to be transferred to the acquiring team. I think this would work out if the combo of the 2 lower picks attained resulted in a little more money from their slots than what the higher slot had. Say #10 is 1.7mil and numbers 20 and 32 combine for 1.8mil. This would then justify a smaller club trading down to maybe take on riskier prospects while the club moving up likely gets the player they want on the money involved. If it works the other way though #10 is 2mil and #s 20 and 32 combine for 1.7mil it completely looks like the poorer team is trading out of money due in their picks as well as away from building in talent. Does it surprise anyone Miami traded their pick down? I read it as almost 700k less in pool money. That's a nice down payment on a houst for Loria....

EB, Rendon is a #6 draft pick. Shown enough in less than 79 games to make the Nationals roster. It shows how highly they are on him. Trading Rendon would be equivalent to us trading Ryan Braun his first month on the roster. What I'm getting at, is at this point, Gallardo plus Weeks more than likely is hung up on for Rendon alone. I think Rendon is at that Core Franchise level player for the Nationals as we see Segura for us long term. So I would likely begin my trade thoughts to acquire Rendon with what you would be okay with trading away Segura. I do feel Yo could be sent over for some prospects. Nats are and have been willing to deal for Pitchers in the past. But then again, they are healthy in SPs having Strasburg,Gio,Zimmerman,Haren, and one of Detwiler or Karns. Haren does leave after this season though so maybe the team throws Karns and Robbie Ray away for Gallardo. Maybe the team even tabs Matt Skole as a 3b/1b prospect. It's just amazing the team the Nationals have put together between signings and all those draft picks they've collected and hit on. And then to see them at .500...Man, you wonder, if in 30 games they become sellers themselves. Haren/Laroche a guy like Clippard or Storen as trade aways. Injuries clearly have derailed them and once again the NL is so strong at the top(the whole Lohse argument and not trading Hart away offseason) that realistically mounting a comeback from 7games or more behind the Playoff picture is way more daunting then if prior seasons. Pittsburgh's collapse is less likely this season with Cole's career starting tonight, Cincy having a true leadoff this season, and the West has top talent players on all of them except SD. Such a Competitive League this season. -
Everyone seemed to respond to the Realtor. But this Walgreens issue warrants attention. That really doesn't seem fair and I wonder if it is something that an attorney can file a suit against. I'd inquire it to them. It feels like some kind of employer wronging that a law should protect from. It should have been discussed with her and allowed only with her acceptance or some kind of severance package should have been issued to remove her position which would be in the end firing her. I have a friend who works at the Journal Sentinel and that seems to be their case over the years. Offering Severance packages to have them quit or they were asked if remained to take a paycut and also agree to not expect any payraise(which apparently was 2-4% yearly) for 3years. Of course they didn't tell her by remaining on that paycut, that she would now be required to do the work of one of her co-workers who took the severance and left on top of what she already was responsible. It's also something I would try to find out if this has happened Statewide removing her position. If it was Country-wide. Or just within that store only, blatantly showing it as a complete wrong to your wife. What's bugging me is that the DOW continues to climb and it's at your wife's expense/my friend's that is a big part to blame. Coming out of the recession, employees are being paid less than what they were paid prior to it and there's less of them employed but overall employee production is up(due to likely saving their job fears). You pay $10/hr 8hr shift to 20 employees who produce 100 computers each, every day. That's 2,000 computers at $1600 daily cost. You fire 8 employees reduce pay of the remaining to $9/hr but still get them to produce 2000 computers a day. It only costs $864 a day on employee pay. This is essentially what is going on. So every quarter companies are showing off glaring profits. At some point, this is going to fail again when the lack of income all these employees are making with less jobs(or likely reopened jobs today only paying less than in 2007) and less pay....How do folks afford to buy the products the big companines make when Millions of People used to make $33k a year are now making $27,500/yearly? You take away $5500 a year someone can spend on the product you produce it will result long term on them not being able to buy your product as often. And then boom, all those glaring Quarters you had been posting come to a halt. I'm waiting for this scenario to play out in the DOW at some point with Earnings reports showing consumer reduction.

I nabbed Cole in both my leagues. Dropped Brantley in 1 and my stream pitcher in the other. Considering how well my staff has been doing, I figured better to nab one of the best SPs being called up more for Defensive purposes. Should he succeed it's on my team. If he fails it will be happening on my bench. Either way, I figure it was the right move to do. I dropped Brantley because I picked up Puig in both Leagues. Problem in my 2nd League I have is, I have in my OF: Hamilton,Jennings,Aoki,Heyward and Utility as Puig now. In my DL is Kemp and Stanton. I seriously cannot get any takers on Hamilton,Aoki, or Jennings. So who do I drop? this is my Keeper League and Heyward I got off of Waivers. I'm seriously considering dropping Hamilton...but then Jennings...no Aoki...AHHH! I'm leaning towards Jennings really as he doesn't have the SBs this year which I drafted for! Not a big OB guy either. Offensive Cats in the League are AVG.,OB./SLG./HR/SB/R/RBI
-
that had nothing to do with why they didnt sign Loshe, their #1 pick was protected. it had everything to do with spending money, which is something they do not do. Yes their #1 pick was protected but not their 2nd #1 pick. Add to it, don't spend money but went and got Liriano, and...who was that Yankee Catcher again? Ah yes Russell Martin. Go figure he and Liriano are both having better seasons than they did in recent seasons. For Liriano it's Ever! Tack on AJ Burnetts continual winning battle against age and Pittsburgh sure knows how to find NL diamonds in the AL Rough.

Looks like forget that idea. Rendon has already performed well with his bat, and he's rating a Positive Defender for 2b thus far. Pretty amazing how Washington has hit there early round draft picks as far as picking the right seasons to be bad and luck in to having the choices of Harper/Strasburg/Rendon. I guess looking at their draft choices They've hit at least one pick since 2007 in 1st/2nd round choices all ML contributors or soon to be. Hard to find a reason Washington needs to trade with us anymore. Aside from getting back the LH RPs they lost.
