  1. Oh the pain it must be to be an Angels fan this season! Well Deserved certainly. If we are going to trade Gallardo or Lohse or both, I think running Peralta and Hellweg out there is key to next season.
  2. Maldonado can catch long enough for Coulter to arrive or someone else we get in trade/or draft or sign on down the road. Obviously a step back offensively. It is something though that a wow offer for Lucroy though, meaning overpay in prospect value, can certainly be looked the other way. A speculated ideal fit could be Detroit. And they certainly have a player we all would love to see as our future 3b.
  3. Well PFX. ARam has 2years remaining after this season. Depending how the Dodgers view him, wanting a guy longer than just this season he is one of the best and fitting options. It would be different if he is a rental for this season only but you figure rest/surgery repairs it for next season the team that wants him is in business. Dodgers are looking to buy a championship today/tomorrow and who knows for how long? Like I said if we could take Pederson/Stripling off them I'd be very pleased.
  4. Oh crap, I need to go eat some Crow. Weeks with another HR. Have A Game Old Man! I was going to comment Weeks is above .700OPS like Dollar, now he's at .723OPS and that ranks him 12th among 2b now. He's earning his keep now and some other teams should be taking notice. BTW, ESPN Stats said Francisco's HR took over 7secs to land reached 168ft in arc. Highest since ARod in 2009.
  5. Well Francisco sure helped improve our 1b numbers on the season with today's game. maybe our 1b are no longer OPSing under .600? Weeks has turned it around at a good time of year. Lohse really just 1 mistake for 3ER 7ip nice work!
  6. I'll take the Single Lucroy just keep racking up those RBI. Can he get 100?
  7. Jean Segura! Clutch! How about Lucroy lifts one here out to send Jackson packing this game?
  8. Here's a quick thought: If the Brewers picked up the deferred money on Lohse, then essentially a team that wants to trade for him, is looking at Lohse really only being owed 2mil for the remainder of this season. Monty's argument has been that his contract isn't good but in this idea you're essentially getting the best of Lohse for half a season at 2mil, and 22mil the other 2 years so 2.5seasons at 24mil. A team in a win now mode that needs SP but has a higher priced contract coming off the books say next season or 2 from now probably has good cause to trade for Lohse. I've said Toronto for Gallardo since Johnson is a FA after this season. But that makes Lohse very attractive imo to them as well. Especially since Lohse is more an innings eating guy vs Gallardo. You could add Washington in the mix with Haren being sidelined as well as a FA after this season. Boston could look at him and buyout Lester this offseason. Baltimore as we know seeks SP. So long as Milwaukee agrees to pay the deferred money I see a strong market for Lohse as he's as cheap as you can get for this season then, not to mention one of the best options to trade for pitching help.
  9. Dodgers are buyers for sure. so yes they are trading partners. One that is seeking control of a 3b. They are heavy on acquiring Nolasco according to MLBTR. They also are looking for a solution to have team controlled at 3b. So trading ARam who the Brewers are shopping to trade would be ideal in both instances. Top 4 Dodgers Prospects are Zach Lee, Joc Pederson, Corey Seager, and Chris Reed. After them it doesn't sound as high upside They do have Jose Valentine's son in their minors which would be nostalgic to attain as a 2nd or 3rd player in trade. The other player to watch is for Ross Stripling who's looking like one of those rare out of college pitchers that truly is moving up the Minors ladder quickly. Could the team acquire Pederson creating the ability to move Gomez/Aoki? I'm not really sold on Lee's upside and I'd rather take on a guy like Pederson who allows the ability to trade Aoki/Gomez to other teams for pitchers with higher upside. Any other thoughs on their minors for ARam?
  10. DoU is reporting that Hardicourt tweeted that Hart is having problems with his knee and is going to get a 2nd opinion on it. Pretty safe to say he's likely done for the season. Tom @Haudricourt More bad news on #Brewers Corey Hart. Now his other knee is bothering him. Going for a second opinion.
  11. Yowzas, Juan Francisco 5th? For once I'd have actually liked to have seen Aoki,Weeks,Segura,Ramirez,Lucroy in top 5 with this group as our lineup. Clearly Segura is the best in the lineup so he deserves the 3rd spot. Would love Lohse to continue his success and build up his value in case someone decides on trading for him.
  12. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9412832/mlb-trade-deadline-preview I just read this too and that about sums up the core pieces, Braun,Segura, and Gomez. I'd have kept Lucroy and entertained as we all know trading Gomez. I'm actually a bit worried with the sentiment that Lucroy is being shopped around. By keeping Gomez, potentially Aoki the FO may view the team as being able to contend next season by adding just 1 solid arm. I get keeping Gomez, I just see him as getting 2 top 50 prospects plus another near or at top 100 prospect. Lucroy is a talent for sure but I don't see him bringing in anything better than a #3SP which doesn't help our future when we need #2 to #1 type Pitchers. So the offer that take Lucroy from us had better be spectacular.
  13. What about two former top propsects in Matusz and Arrieta for Lohse and Henderson? The reasoning for me is simple...We get to get out of the Lohse contract. Our return could be worse and we get two former top propsects to throw at the wall and see if either of them stick. I would think these two are prime candidates for a change of scenery and given the right cicrumstance, i.e. out of the AL East, they may be reinvigorated. Additionally, they both aren't FAs until after 2016. While I think Lohse may be able to get something more, some 5 man combo of Matusz, Arrieta, Thornburg, Peralta, Nelson, Hellweg, Jungmann, Pena, combined with whatever we would get from a Gallardo & Ramirez trade (Barnes, Middlebrooks & Ranaudo from Boston?) could be the beginnings of a better than average rotation to pair with Braun, Lucroy, Segura & Gomez. Honestly, the more I look at it the, more I feel the Brewers could be really good again really quick, given the right moves here in the next month. I'm just going to guess Baltimore will stick with Matusz as a RP vs. trading him. If we send them Lohse and Henderson, I'd expect Arrieta and Shoop in return. Henderson has a lot of value imo as a RP vs the likes of Axford/KRod due to cost/control and effectiveness. The Boston trade proposal, here's the thing with Boston. I don't like them as competitors this season. I feel like in 3weeks time they will not only be out of 1st but possibly Last in the East. Which either they get desparate and make the kind of move you suggest, or become sellers themselves. Ellsbury/Napoli made available. I'm hoping they get desperate and believe they are WS contenders with a 3b/SP pieces to be added. I wouldn't take on Middlebrooks since 1 he's struggling, but 2 he's not a guy that gets OB via Walks. so he has to bat for Avg. I made a proposal to take him on earlier in another thread but that was because if Boston trades for ARam what do they do with Middlebrooks? Middlebrooks almost smells like a Casey McGehee future. I personally think a Lohse trade to Boston saving Barnes is what would be in store. Getting Webster or Owens along with someone else. Saving Gallardo for some truly high upside prospects.
  14. Okay Jericho you're right, I went back and found the articles on Hart. He had the 2nd opinion which delayed his original surgery by the Team Dr. by 3days only. I thought I read somewhere there was a prognosis of him missing a full season with one type of surgery or the 4-6months with what likely was done to his knee. Guess I remembered wrong. Anyway, are we really going to believe signing him to a 1yr deal next year is worthwhile? My guess is a team will outbid Milwaukee on a 1yr deal and if we were to sign him away from those teams it would come at the cost of a 2year deal. Something like they offer him 1 year at 9mil or we offer 2years at 14mil. It's just too much money to invest in a guy with suspect knees. You wonder if the Brewers just approach him and say, forget this season, we cant trade you, and there's no reason to come back for 1 month's of games when we aren't playing for anything. I mean I guess the club could say come back for the final 2weeks of the season so you can get your swan song in front of the Milwaukee Fans. But honestly, the Team dropped the ball by not trading him during the winter meetings before the winter workouts injured his knee. At that time we still had healthy Gamel/Green to take his place. Just a shame, we get nothing for Corey when the rumors back in the day were maybe Bumgarner for Hart from SF.
  15. Why trade Gomez and worry about the dropoff from Schafer or any of the AAA guys? Simple his value currently plus the look ahead to where the Franchise stands in competing. Gomez has 2013-2016 left on this team. Barring some serious overpay in trade for any of our tradeable pieces, the Pitching Staff will never compete in our division meaning no Playoffs every year Gomez remains on the team. Meanwhile guys like Haniger/Taylor are being groomed at CF to take over right around when 2015/16 hit. But what isnt being groomed for when 2015/16 hit? Quality Ace Pitching. Lohse isn't the answer. Gallardo is flashing signs of decline, like Weeks did last season. So it's left to the likes of Peralta/Hellweg/Jungmann/and Nelson to be the future Aces on the team before Gomez exits to FA 2016. Considering our record in finding and developing Aces, none of them will be better than Gallardo. The club needs to find a surefire Ace in the making. It would be great to time the run for WS around 2015/16 but w/o an ace it's not going to happen. Lohse/Gallardo will be gone leaving that 2016 run up to those 4 guys listed. The teams I look at to find that ace for Gomez reside in Sea/NYM and maybe, just maybe in Arz. Can you imagine Archie Bradley for Gomez? Setting Arizona up for an Eaton,Gomez,Parra OF after this season? Or there's Walker from Seattle or Wheeler from the Mets. The Brewers have enough #3 guys to work with, what they don't have is a #2 with #1 potential. If they don't acquire that in trade for a rebuild then they will end up sending away high end prospects down the road to acquire that #1/2 Rental when they are in the playoff picture. Putting us once again where we stand today. High Talent at the top on the Roster but nothing behind it to fill the team in case of injuries or down years.
  16. Briggs, I don't get why you think the DBacks are in position to go allin this year? Honestly, they just need to stand pat with the IMMENSE young talent they have to grow stronger. Skaggs/Bradley with Corbin are going to be a formidable Staff after this year. Add Delgado who isn't a slouch and that's 4 #2s or higher for a pitching staff. Eaton has yet to take the field full-time. Davidson will replace Prado with Goldschmidt and Gregorious you can't ask for much better core to fill out a team with beyond this season. Montero at C. Aaron hill at 2b. Chris Owings to come up in case Gregorious or Hill go down next season. Parra in RF. That leaves LF/RPs and Bench players to buy in to for the next 4years only. Again my aim high is on Toronto with Sanchez/Ozuna coming in return for Gallardo. KC with Ventura/Mondesi and Cuthbert. And then SD with Max Fried,Matthew Wisler, and Zach Eflin or Joe Ross. SF with Crick and Statton plus a PTBNL which would work well to have to work around who else they bring in trade so they don't fill the same need twice over.
  17. Let's see, as I recall, 1 DR. said his procedure would mean a full season of missed games. Another DR. says his different procedure could have him back in 4-6months time? Could the other DR have just been super shady and sold his procedure to Hart for business purposes knowing his timetable was way off? At what point can the Brewers collect, if any, insurance money for his time on the DL? Especially if it turns out missing entire season?
  18. I think it's great that the statement by Melvin pretty much declares that Lohse/Gallardo are on the trade market. So if a team wants them, they now know to pick up the phone and make their offers. Gallardo at this point as to essentially look as one of the top 3 SPs to be had. Maybe even the best since Lee is rumored to not be available. Now, a team just looking for rental won't think that way but a team who has aspirations to get more than a rental on top of one of the best available then Yo should be worth a lot to them. In Lohse a team that trades for him is at least getting a Playoff experienced guy. Something that Toronto has only Buerle and Happ with experience in the post season. San Diego too could use a veteran with Playoff experience if they feel they're contenders.
  19. Now tell me about years 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. Because financially-controllable, potential (and probable) front-line pitching is WAY (and I mean WAY) more valuable than an defensive-first OF who is playing over his head. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Gomez isn't valuable. But suggesting that Arizona would be open to dealing Skaggs AND Bradley for Gomez (and either, or both for that matter), Axford/Schafer isn't realistic. Frankly, I'm betting if we offered up Gomez for Archie Bradley straight up they would tell us to go fly. I'd take that bet in an instant. How is it Gomez is only a Defensive CF? Were his offensive numbers last season not good for a CF? How many CFs hit 19HRs or batted above .260 last season? Your answer: Andrew McCutchen,Adam Jones,Mike Trout, and Matt Kemp. Only Trout had more SBs than Gomez in that group. Add Jacoby Ellsbury of doing so in 2011 with repeats of Kemp/and Jones. Elite Defense? Now it's McCutchen/Trout. Bang for your buck? Trout clearly but then in the next 3 seasons its Gomez 24mil, McCutchen 30.25mil, and Kemp 63.5mil. This pretty much makes Gomez the 2nd best CF in the game for the next 3 seasons behind only Trout. Gomez has exceeded expectations but it's not playing way over head. He's backing up the positive signs of finishing his final 266PAs last season of a .282/.328/.508slg batting line. In which he hit 14HRs in that span right in line with his 12HRs in approximately the same span. What Gomez has increased though is having 8triples/18doubles vs. just 11 doubles to end the season with those 14HRs. So the Power hasn't changed. You can figure that going forward based on last season's final 266PAs and this years 293 that that combined he's a 25-30HR OF who's .500+SLG is real and the Avg is likely to stick in the .280s or higher. I can't fathom a GM declining a straight up trade offer for their top Pitching Prospect for Gomez. Not anymore.
  20. I find it interesting that Briggs believes Gomez is worth more than a Stud Pitcher+Schafer. While SkeetsOut sees Archie Bradley and Skaggs are worth more than Gomez. Burgos+Figaro have a combined -1.2WAR in 12Starts. Gomez has a 4.9WAR on the season Schafer has a .4WAR in half the appearances. A pitcher we seek in trade should fall in the #2 category so going over #2s Patrick Corbin 2.8WAR Julio Teheran 2.2WAR Ryu 2.0WAR Alex Cobb 2.3WAR Anibal Sanchez 2.5WAR Let's even go Yovani Gallardo .5WAR this year 12.9/6seasons or 2.1Avg WAR prior. So, looking this over a #2 on this team would be worth trading away Gomez if 2 #2s came back in return 4.9-.5 or 4.4WAR and 2.2+2.2+1.2 gained over #5 or 5.6WAR. It shows off what kind of Value Gomez is worth. Gomez is every bit worth a Skaggs+ or Bradley+ in that the plus should be a #2 potential Gomez isn't a top 20 OF prospect. He IS a top 20OF in all of baseball with top 10 or even top 5 potential. 1 top 20 Pitching prospect isn't going to be worth Gomez and 2 top 30-40 Pitching Prospects should be had for him at minimum. If I said Trade Gomez for Ryu and Corbin type pitchers, would you trade Gomez or Keep him? I don't think the scenario for ARZ trading away Skaggs And Bradley would exist but what about 1 plus 1 of Davidson 3b/Eaton OF/or Owings SS? Prior to this season that would be a steal but now? That's hard for me still to want to part with Gomez. But it is that in which shows what can be had in return for him. Remember 3years of Gomez. Or 11/12years of the top 2 prospects we get in return for him? The other aspect is how much of a falloff does Gomez have now til he becomes a FA? So the team should have compensation for him at that point being a 1st rd pick. Which should add to his value from the other team's side that it is Gomez Plus 1st rd compensation for 2 Pitching prospects. Let's not even forget the 24mil ONLY owed to him the next 3years. For a guy who was questionable for a QO or 13mil/yr to now he's worth easily 19mil/yr or higher. That's 57mil in other words or 11mil/year that team should see as able to spend elsewhere to improve their team. Or that team can just go through the lumps and bumps of watching their prospect learn and mature in the Majors. Sure some get it right away, but look at Gausman, Skaggs, Bauer, Odorizzi, Allen Webster not every top Pitching prospect start off like Miller and Harvey have.
  21. I agree skeet in that Arz wouldn't do the deal. I mean what is the point if Eaton is the CF for them already? Now, In an instant I wouldn't trade Gomez for Skaggs alone. I doubt I'd take Skaggs + Eaton for Gomez though I'd think about and ask for something more. Bradley is the big Star. No doubt a higher ceiling guy than Skaggs. Skaggs doesn't present to me as a sure fire #1 when having been given the chance to show it off. I get the feeling he's going to be like Gallardo a #2 but never a #1. Anyway, Arizona has no need to trade for any of our guys, they are a team filled with talent today and set for the future. The one and only place they may look to improve is their closer situation since Putz and Bell aren't getting it done. But a rental like KRod isn't going to net much. Maybe a PTBNL or cash. Axford not being the closer today, anyone asking for him in trade would be asking for him as a 7th inning guy and what kind of return does that provide? Henderson probably could actually net a top 10 prospect from some other team's farm but certainly not a top 5. Arizona has 14 Blown Saves this year tied for 3rd worst. Boston and Cleveland also are among the leaders(worst) in save conversions/BL Saves. As too is Baltimore.
  22. Toronto keeps winning. I'd work really hard to make a trade happen for Aaron Sanchez. Toronto also has a guy named Roberto Osuna that would be high upside SP to grab but he's a 3year away guy vs. 2 for Sanchez. You wonder if Lohse/Gallardo could be a guy for them as certainly he must be better than putting Ramon Ortiz out there on the mound. They do lose Josh Johnson after this season and paired with Dickey/Buerle/Morrow they don't lose a step as having solid pitching rotation guys. 2 weeks ago it looked nothing like Toronto would be in the buyers market and strictly sellers(Johnson). But now? Like the moves they made this offseason, the AL East is for the taking right now and they are very much back in the mix. I'd go ahead send ARam and either Lohse or Gallardo to them with 10mil and take on both Sanchez/Ozuna and ask for another prospect or two maybe Sean Nolin since he's at least been brought up to pitch in the Majors giving Milwaukee a replacement in the near term immediately.
  23. You're right Briggs. But that is the idea for me, in trading Gomez they can attain the SPs to pair with Gallardo/Lohse/Peralta and 1 of the many Hopefuls to pan out in our Minors currently. Schafer is doing an admirable job thus far and the falloff from Gomez to him cant be as much as the immense gain of a Stud Pitcher on the team in replace of who our #5 guy is today. Maybe even keeping all of the team together for next season done by this one trade would make the team relevant already next year. Morris/Gamel platoon at 1st. Weeks/Bianchi 2b. Segura SS. ARam 3b. Aoki RF. Schafer CF. Braun LF. Lucroy C. This would go on the premise that Gallardo retains his found again velocity, Lohse remains the under 4era guy we hope for, Peralta improves by say 1 full ER on his ERA. The Impact guy we attain as #4. And then it's Estrada/Hellweg at #5. The problem that arrises though is like Hart, keeping Weeks for his Free Agent year results in nothing in return at the end of the season. Also, one should assume our BP is about to get barren and need a rebuild/hope on effectiveness with this idea in mind for next season. If you don't pick up Gallardo/ARam options then you lose them as well without getting anything in return so clearly when you do, you're looking at trading them both 2015 at the deadline regardless of how the team stands at that time. Or, the team is forced to hold them and play out their 2015 with Lohse and once again trade away prospects for a key cog for the playoff run in 2015 only to then be completely ruined after it.
