  1. Based on Magill's numbers this season is he really someone to target? He had a 6BBs/9 in AAA and in 27.2IP in 6GS for LAD he has 28BBs and given up 6HRs! That smells like disaster coming to Miller Park. This idea probably gets bashed but, if looking to make a deal there's likely some give and take when you deal away high priced veterans. So, could Dee Gordon, Zach Lee, plus work from their perspective and for us for Weeks/ARam? I guess the Dodgers worked with Gordon recently fielding grounders at 2b. You then have Gordon to either take over at 2b if he can win the job from Gennett or he plays out as a utility 2b/SS backup. Melvin I recall had a remark about Gordon being a special player in the offseason? But his production has been awful for LA and could no longer be in the future plans for LA. They'd just move HanRam to SS with his contract and play Aramis at 3b for his contract. You would think Seager's progression nets him in the 2015 callup and they could platoon with ARam as his swan song. And likely LAD could afford a nice 1yr deal beyond to remain a Platoon/Bench bat for them if ARam remains a solid bat at that age. Oh, and I just looked at it but HanRam is done after 2014....so I don't know anymore what they do for SS. Still leave this up for now.
  2. So a 54th rated Prospect is worth Aoki,Morris, and Hart? Do you understand Aoki's deal has an option pick up but after 2014 he would still be under control on whatever team has him? Aoki would be heading in to Arbitration at that point. Considering what KC has for replacements in RF, a Cheap and better Aoki should be worth a lot to them over what they have to trot out there. Jeff Francoeur less than .600 OPS under .260OB, and now attempting David Lough 27yr rookie who has spent the last 3+years at AAA carrying under .800OPS. Next up for them is 30yr old Anthony Seratelli a Utility Player with 69games exp at RF but does carry .870OPS at the AAA level. Again, why KC traded away Myers when he'd be joining them any day now at this point to fill long term RF need beats me? Two seasons of James Shields. How will you justify that? By pushing to win today. Aoki helps them in that equation. Royals only have 4 top 100 prospects and you would think Starling/Zimmer aren't available. That leaves Ventura or Mondesi. Mondesi isn't close to making it in the Big Leagues and taking on that project seems far too risky to consider. So, it has to be Ventura. It's one thing for KC to give up Ventura and taking on say Andre Ethier's contract to play RF for them. It's another for someone like Aoki and his low cost contract to take on. Aoki's value does so much more for KC than just what he accomplishes on the field. It helps KC both ways. They will need a RF for next season anyhow too. That's my whole reasoning of Perfect trade Partner KC. Their payroll sits at 82mil this season projecting to 87mil next and then approaching 100mil the next two seasons. That is also more than enough reason to dump Hosmer for Morris. 1st year arb forthcoming.
  3. B2B rainouts and a 20inning game sure must have been nice to esentially not skip a SP's turn. Go figure why Marlins skipped Slowey for who they sent to start today.
  4. That was my thinking in the initial signing of him to be a spot starter/long reliever. Glad to see he got 4ip in today and Thornburg another 2Shutout IP. As I type 1out away from another W
  5. This is MLB's prospect writeup on Lee: The Dodgers made a huge splash by signing Lee away from quarterbacking at LSU and the right-hander has been moving quickly since. Lee reached Double-A in 2012 and will pitch the 2013 season at age 21. He has four pitches that have the chance to be Major League average or better and he can throw all of them for strikes. He’ll sit in the 92-93 mph range with good movement to his fastball. He throws two breaking balls, a hard slider and a softer curve, and he has a very good feel for a sinking changeup. He can work both sides of the plate and doesn’t hurt himself with walks. I understand 3s don't sound flashy because our 3s have all been failing. Lee is one who is succeeding and it's likely due to having command of all his pitches. I guess the question is how many 1s exist in MLB today? 20? 30? Okay, maybe 40. Lee sounds like the type of SP that would be a workhorse as a 3. If he has command of his pitches, then there's a reason to believe he can go 7innings maybe 8 quite often. Even if it's at 2-3ERs that is still better than the Brewers are getting. Lee doesn't sound like the type of pitcher we hope becomes a 3. It sounds like he is a 3 and he'd be a 2 if he had a strikeout pitch. That's not what we have going on with all our 3s. And I'll take as many 3s we can accumulate. 3s are better than 4s/5s no? If we build a staff of 2/3/3/3/3 that's better imo than 1.5lol/3/4/4/5.5 It's like Arizona's staff. Nobody really dominates but they also don't look lost out there. I'd be happy with Lee as a return in a trade.
  6. Who will be Hunter's Platoon mate? Ventura is a Pitcher as is Zimmer. I just can't imagine the Royals parting with Zimmer a year after being the 5th pick in the draft. But Ventura sounds like a better prepared prospect anyway. Trying to see ahead what the team's future moves are going to be. I suggest Cuthbert since with ARam's trade likelihood, and the lack of a 3b prospect it scares me to think Francisco/Betancourt platoon there for a period. I realize Neuhas was just drafted but you know he's 4years away if signed. Who knows? maybe it works out like the Padres situation(Headley/Gyorko) where Cuthbert plays 3b and Neuhas pushes his way in to the lineup by playing 2b. All hypothetical, just giving reasoning behind every idea tossed out there. Yes, Pitching is vastly needed but I'd take Adalberto Mondesi if he was offered up too. Top 100 prospect at age 17 at SS. Sure.
  7. Yes, I have caught on to that through BF. .700-.750OPS seem to come off regarded as Replacement level hitters. .800-.850 seem to be what one shoots for. But how does that adjust when you add Defensive skills? Is a .750OPS player really much worse over a .825OPS player when the former is a 1.5+Def WAR or higher and the latter is a 0 to -1Def WAR player? Lawrie has excellent Defensive numbers and the potential with the bat(hitting between All Star-MVP OPS rookie ABS) There's no doubt he's going to stick in the Majors for a long time just on Defense alone. The bat potential and results will be a bonus. If he could stay healthy, mature a little I don't believe he will continue posting the .700NOT Good OPS numbers and be the .800 Good numbers guy. He's still 4years away from his prime 27aged season. How much of the Brewers Minors are filled as a percentage of guys older than him still trying to make it to the Big League?
  8. Fair enough. There's a lot of talent on that team but in Butler/Shields that talent wont exist much longer. Your Cleanup/Ace on the team. I look at it as, the Royals traded away Myers/Odorizzi/Montgomery for Shields. If they don't make the Playoffs this season, then they Must Next Season! Or else that trade is a complete head scratcher and WTH?! were they thinking?!!? That is why I think the team may look in to trading for a run at the Post Season this year and for next. Aoki is the RF monetarily that solves one of the 3 Biggest needs they have. I think setting Aoki atop their order places Gordon 3rd,Butler 4th,Perez 5th really helps that team overall vs batting Gordon 1st. Hosmer 3rd/4th/5th....anywhere since he's not producing solidly enough. Based on what I read in Morris, I'm not excited to have him as our cornerstone 1b for 6years. Hosmer is the type of 1b you wonder if he puts it together that 1st year you can buy out the other arb years plus say 2 FA years. If he doesn't I'd imagine he can be a trade piece. He's 23. Considering Gomez's growth I'd think we could overlook his thus far numbers and focus on what his potential growth is. He's at .265 and hitting for a high average was the original read up on him. 20HRs is solid to me when accompanied with a higher BA and any more is just bonus in the slg department. KC thought he'd arrive to his potential sooner and cant wait for it to arrive when they must make the post season within 1 of these next 2 seasons. If Hosmer isn't in the trade equation, then Morris/Hart are taken out of the deals. So then it's Aoki alone. I think with what Royals have in Francoeur, they'd overpay in the prospect they send over for Aoki. Maybe more so if we take on Francoeur's salary. Zimmer or Ventura in return? plus 1 B-/C+ prospect?
  9. I think the team went well with Williams and the slot money killed them for anything special in the other remaining picks. I hope Neuhas provides something for the Brewers with his pick. Then you are looking at RPs? Well, if you have to save money yet capably can acquire a player to make it at the ML level. I think the RP is where it is at. Wonder if the success of the trade a week ago on a 4th rd RP selection steered the way in to the thinking RPs bring value at a small cost. I guess when you look at it when it comes to the number of successful picks beyond the 3rd/4th rounds, Being disappointed with the selections now probably doesn't mean much over the other player you hoped they'd select.
  10. So why bother taking a college guy? Realistically we can't expect Jungmann to be better than what he is now? Jorge Lopez probably has better potential than Jungmann? In Jungmann/Bradley they were projected top of the draft picks. Some college pitchers work out. When they do it doesn't take long to get them to the Majors. They can be safer picks. You already have the notion what they will do. Signability is another. The HS kids may elect to go to college.
  11. Sorry, it is simply realism. I have lived way too long and watched way too many drafts and seen way too many results that weren't expected. Hoping we draft such and such is great because you believe in them, judging how good a draft is on draft day is just beyond silly and useless. You are basically drawing straws. The person who walks away from today's draft and says team X did a great job is just deluding themselves. So what brought you in to this discussion to simply call one insane for believing what analysts on websites/ESPN say as Pitt. having a good draft? It was the first thing you posted in this. If you hate the reality of failed draft picks then just stay away from the discussion of a draft that is incurring? On a failed season like ours, deluding one with hopes is what I come for. It was like your mission was to come in here and set the forum on fire with spite to zap any fresh air zapped in to the future of the Milwaukee Franchise in today's selection. What kind of fan is that?
  12. My preference between the two is simply, if you can draft a HS kid you think is in the same league as that College Pitcher. Age. I'll take 3-5years developing a HS kid so he arrives on the Ballclub at age 21-23. Vs. the 3-5years it takes for the College pitcher to arrive at age 24-26. If we're thinking lottery with these picks if you hit on the HS player he can be your big ticket for your organization for a Decade. Maybe longer. Also in way of Pitchers, they've grown up. You can't expect much more with FB then what they possess that day. Besides, if we're looking for All Stars/Future HOFs, for me growing up I was a Yount Fan. He was on the team when he was 18! Coming out of College in to the draft you're 3-4years behind that time frame. I am just more excited for Younger Players as you can always believe development will come. 3years after draft day, He's only 21 and if he's not showing progress as you hoped well at least he's had 3 years of pro ball vs. the College guy now getting his first taste. So I think of it as the HS pick can develop for up to 6-8 years before I can label him a bust.
  13. You can tell that already? Just like the football drafts anyone who thinks they can project these guys is simply insane. There is no reason at all to get excited about drafts because your opinions on the guys your team pick are completely useless. Who brought the party pooper?
  14. Just read it's a 3b future moreso than SS. Also going to add, HS aged in the 3rd round. Gotta believe that's a 5year from now project to the Bigs. Segura may be on his way out by then(hope not but you can't assume he's here beyond 6years)
  15. One can assume if he didn't have a little control issues, then he's likely selected in the 1st round? It's the control that slips him down to our pick. HS Pitcher Thank You! I hope it's a fun ride reading his development as the next 4 years progress. I wouldn't call him a nonflamethrower if mid 90s are projectable with his frame.
  16. Okay, stealing Ely's thunder with topic name. Figured would roll this out there. Kansas City as we know sent away a trio of highly thought of prospects for 2 remaining years of James Shields and Wade Davis. They have an array of potent young bats that gave them glimpses at a promising year this year with any steps forward or no decline. They unfortunately haven't seen the steps forward in Eric Hosmer/Mike Moustakas and a decline in Alcides Escobar from last season. All Star from Last year Billy Butler has also struggled a bit from expectations at the plate. Add Salvador Perez to putting up the BA but no true power or overall production as would be expected. Shields/Santana/Guthrie have been productive as starters without the record to show for it. Clearly the team needs SP to make a run. I don't know if the Brewers are the answer to that but I will suggest potential fit for them/us. RF-Jeff Francoeur. Literally has to have the fans going mad. I read he was the worst position player last season -2.8WAR and he's at a -.8WAR this season. He's owed 7.5mil this season and it's with that I propose this deal> Brewers send> Norichika Aoki,Corey Hart,Hunter Morris to Kansas City for> Jeff Francoeur, Eric Hosmer, Yordana Ventura, Cheslor Cuthbert, and Kyle Smith. The thinking behind the deal. The Royals immediately improve at RF in Aoki over Francoeur. Hosmer just isn't providing the pop the team needs at this stage and the thinking is a change of scenery may do the trick. Hart's contract is offset by the Brewers taking in Francoeur's so the Money doesn't become an issue. He slides in at 1b to give an improved bat over Hosmer. He'll be able to DH when needed since Butler can cover 1b. There may even be an occasion you play him in RF over Aoki vs. a Lefty. Why send Morris? Hosmer takes over at 1b thus blocking him. He also becomes the 1b for KC in the near term to lighten the blow of losing Hosmer. Ventura is a flame thrower with a big curve. If he misses as a Starter he'll become a solid(dominant? ) closer. Cuthbert chimes in as a 3b in our Minors. With Francisco on board, there's time to develop him. Reads has having a strong arm and potential to hit for average and power. Could be a long term solution at 3b? Smith comes in as just a young #3 Projected SP. It's about depth getting him. I'll take a #3 if he's our #4/5 down the road which is really what one should build for no? Maybe KC offer Hart a 1yr deal to fit with Shields as a win now timeframe. Aoki's age/contract gives them time to get Starling to the team. go ahead and discuss
  17. I would think the new regime/FO would have learned by then after the previous 5 mistakes right?
  18. He wouldn't be the #10 prospect in baseball if he just had speed. He'll be an average, slightly above average hitter with little power. But he's also going to be an above average fielder in center. Well, I'd hope being that fast he could cover enough ground in CF to be above average. I just wonder if he's rated so high because his speed/SB ability can't really be taken away any time soon and that's a cant miss ability he has. But does he have the eye to take walks? I'd say he strikes me as a guy who will look to lay down at least a bunt if not 2 every game played to get on base. It'll probably be effective, annoyingly, but if he's a bunt first guy you would think that leads to under 3pitch ABs which if he doesn't reach plays in to the opposing pitchers hand.
  19. Don't forget the lack of International scouting
  20. There ya go. Gonzales while not flashy pick probably their Jaime Garcia/Jake Westbrook and now Kaminsky the Shelby Miller for them. Sigh. Kaminsky is one you've been high on right Crew?
  21. Is Hamilton the real deal though? I get the feeling he's just fast. That the bat isn't special. Does he have any power? I read in Fantasy 14.3-14.8secs to run around the bases for a inside the parker a night or two ago. What's your guess Gomez does it in?
  22. Okay thanks Crew. What time is it likely the Brewers make their pick? Any guesses? 1.5hours to get through 22picks. So another 2 hours?
  23. Well, mark it down 4years from now. The next Brewer Killer. Marco Gonzales. Guaranteed Ace now huh?
