Time to trade Gallardo?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Would Skaggs and Davidson be a haul worthy enough for Gallardo? Or do you leave the lesser of the big prospects and get volume? Davidson,Holmberg,Spruill plus younger guys like Barrett or Drury? -
The thing with Axford is price. He's 5mil this year and he keeps up his current return to form I'd see him as an 8mil-9mil guy next season. For the Brewers that's just too much a pricetag.

Time to trade Gallardo?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
And suddenly MLBTR posts: Diamondbacks Interested In Gallardo, Samardzija the Diamondbacks aren't interested(in Nolasco) because they prefer pitchers who are controlled beyond this season. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the D-Backs are interested in two pitchers in particular -- Yovani Gallardo and Jeff Samardzija. -
Could there be a strong market for Lohse?

Perfect trading partner - Dodgers?

Crew sitting in last place is only relative to how many games behind 1st you are. At the moment it looks like LA will be sitting 6games out of 1st in their division and winners of what would be 6 straight who now have Puig, a return of Kemp, a healthy Grienke, a healthy Hanley Ramirez players that a month ago weren't contributing to the losses LA had accumulated. With Kershaw/Grienke/Ryu top of the rotation they are better than SF/SD/and Colorado there. So they easily can produce some sweeps that are 3games gained in quick jump in the division. The only team that stands out to me as keeping LA from actually winning the West is Arizona. Or themselves. So not only are and rightly should be buyers but their strong buyers to win it all now once they buy at all. They add Nolasco and before the Deadline ARam/our RP we package that's a Kershaw/Grienke/Ryu/Nolasco/#5 rotation with Crawford/Puig/Kemp/Gonzalez/HanRam/ARam 6 in the lineup. I don't see them as being out of it by any means and potentially stand as the favorites at the moment. -
I already threw him in the discussion 4 posts ahead of yours. One of those where if he continues doing what he's doing til the end of season. It would be Segura like where right now Puig can't be counted as the real deal yet so early. But, let's say he (realistically mind you) hits 25HRs by season's end and still has a .300+ Avg. How close in to the conversation does he become to at least Harper/Machado. Trout still wins this discussion by defaut. Younger and more polished stats.

Robert I agree in that Lucroy is core worthy. I just keep looking at the spectrum of what are the Brewers capability of competing 2014/15/16? Our big problem is that not only are we behind in the standings today, but our entire minors are far and away behind every, single, NL, Central, Team! So we need to catch up some how. If we aren't going to compete for 2-3 years then expending the players that are pretty much due to leave the team in that time is a worthy idea. Gomez/Lucroy are core guys for us in that term but we expended our core that should have been here in trading for C.C. and Grienke and Marcum. And yes Grienke brought back Segura/Hellweg/Pena but you gotta remember it would be Odorizzi/Cain/Escobar at this moment in time. Players that will/and should provide immediate value now and the foreseeable 3seasons. Lawrie too. It's about depth in talent that we lost and the timing is delayed approximately 2-3 years currently. When our draft picks catch up to being added to the team. So my focus is to look ahead to what the core could be 3 years from now for the 5years after that. Who's going to be the core of that team? Lucroy/Gomez don't fit that scenario(though Gomez could you just imagine the payday coming should he keep his pace up is outside our ability) So if Lucroy isn't going to fit as a core guy 3 years from now, I look at making him available in trade and riding Maldonado for the seasons we are rebuilding. You would take on 2-4years from now ML ready Upside talent in return thus adding to what the core would become in 2016 and beyond. Or we wait now, next season, and trade Lucroy later and the return becomes 2-4years from now ML ready talent that then makes their appearance on the team 2018-2020 vs. 2016-2018. It's the same with Gomez. The longer we wait to trade these two the tougher is may be to really collect a full roster of high upside talented players to all mesh in to one for a stretch before Braun's swan song. That's the other thought if we act now with these trades my hope in timing fits in to 2016-2018 before the end of Braun. If we wait 2 seasons we're talking 2018-2020 and Braun is likely not going to be impact player we need rather the guy beginning to make his exit from baseball. Thinking like Yount who's final 4years were of the .700+OPS types not the near .900 it was in his peak age years. I just keep looking at it as hey we trade Aoki or ARam get a couple top 100 prospects great. Now we have 2 to look forward to helping our team. The rest of the NL Central who we are trailing now? They have 5 or more a piece. Cincy/St.L./Chi/Pitt they are going to get better or replace the players exiting with as good or better players over the next 2-3 years. Competing with these teams now through 2016 just is going to be tough.

The other aspect of Morris is the guy is rated the #2 1b prospect on MLB's prospect watch. I don't know what it is but 1b aren't growing on trees 20years ago apparently. Look around the landscape of 1b and I see no reason to not play Morris. The 1b being fielded around the League aren't as strong as used to be, and thinking Morris is only a Replacement level 1b may still grade out as in the top half in all of baseball anyway. Morris may not be the ideal 1b you want statistically based on historic stats, but looking around the baseball, how would his stats stack up over the next 3-5years. Remember he's the #2 1b prospect, if you're down on him just think what the other teams in the league are looking at coming up in their systems. And those guys are going to be who Morris has to stack himself up against.

Brewers should shop Gomez at deadline...
brewcrewdue80 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Don't get me wrong, in understanding how great Gomez is and means to our team. The problem is as a core piece it's hard to fathom this team as constructed to compete in the next 2 years. And at that point then we are in Prince Fielder territory in that maybe we are competitive in 2016 and Gomez is a big part to a run at the division title. The problem is at that point we are keeping Gomez, then making a QO to him for a draft selection in the 30 range. Whereas, you trade him now through to 2015 Offseason and you net a return of players that make competing in 2016 and beyond seem realistic. I'm set it would be a 3 for 1 or 4 for 1 type trade for Gomez and that certainly is better than 1 30th draft pick that then takes 3-5 years to make the team or in 2020. You trade Gomez now, get hopefully two very impactful players for 2016 and beyond that pair up then with the Braun/Segura/Lucroy/ core and take the Peralta/Hellweg/Jungmann/Williams? SP core with the Taylor/Haniger duo. It's just something that to me you can time better with this deal to have the team look like the Diamondbacks do today. Or you keep Gomez hope for a successful 2016 take the pick and have the core be 2 players less for 2016 and beyond. and the beyond wouldn't include Braun/Lucroy anymore at that point. -
My proposed trade scenario
brewcrewdue80 replied to Brewnittle's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Your SF offer is an offer I can see being given to Melvin, I just think it's one Melvin rightfully should turn down. I can see maybe giving up 1 of those two in the Atl trade but still find that reaching. The upside in our RPs are nothing like what those two possess. San Diego could be one of those buyers for Gallardo that may surprise in doing so and net a bevy of prospects with some high potential. -
Perfect trading partner - Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to LouisEly's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I didn't know you couldn't trade guys on the DL. I'm thinking that with the Dodger's payroll obligations already being a 5man rotation next season, that the idea of Gallardo/Lohse wouldn't appease them. Why carry a #5 on your team making over 10mil/season? So the Ricky Nolasco trade rumors seem like their most logical Pitcher get. Still leaves the Brewers with Aramis and any of our RPs for them to covet. But can they net any of their big 4? And that's after what they give up for Nolasco who imo should not net any of their big 4...Lee/Pederon/Seager/ and Reed. I love how it's being stated the Marlins are fine with picking up Nolasco's 6mil owed for a better prospect. For a team like the Dodgers, I'd be laughing that idea off, what do they care about 6mil more this season? It is though something that maybe the Padres or Orioles in the world may take up on offer so the Dodgers could lose out. I'd love to hear Monty or TheCrew chime in in what kind of prospects they'd offer for ARam from the Dodgers and lets say KRod added in the deal. -
My proposed trade scenario
brewcrewdue80 replied to Brewnittle's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
It's interesting to me that 3 RPs net more in return in quality than Gallardo nets as a #2/3 for 2.5seasons in your trade scenarios. Currently Graham and Bethancourt are Atl's #1,2 prospects. While Stratton/Panik are Giants #3/4 prospects. As Melvin put it, he has to be wowed to trade Gallardo and if Stratton/Panik don't wow me. I would definitely shoot for Kyle Crick for Gallardo plus Stratton plus another prospect any of the trio of Clayton Blackburn/Eric Surkamp/ and Adalberto Mejia. Blackburn/Mejia 20yr olds that could possess future promise you look for in these trades while Crick is the type of Stud Pitching prospect you expect for a guy like Gallardo. On the Atlanta side, You may be on to something with Bethancourt being available since Gattis needs a home on the field and with Uptons/Heyward the Braves are likely looking at making Bethancourt expendable. Though they could keep Bethancourt and actually make Gattis expendable. Our ideas of Bethancourt or Susac would fall in line with making Lucroy available and trading him. I could definitely see a trade that brings in a catcher make the phone calls/offers come in for Lucroy. The things in your trade is that Gonzalez and KRod are FAs after this year Who both were cheaply signed, that gives an idea of their value. Axford is a guy who is approaching 2nd Arbitration and while you or I may not agree with it, he is headed for a bigger payday than the 5mil he earns this season with his closer experience. Probably in the 8mil range. My guess is Axford will be turned in to a FA and signed for less money but in my scenario that too makes him a rental. Many of our relievers will be coveted but relief pitchers especially those that have jumped around, arent going to bring much back in trade. The big return in RP trades happen from Closers that began their career with the current team earned the roll and still have team owned service time. So the guys like Glen Perkins/Bobby Parnell are the big value RPs while are guys minus Henderson are just of the throw it in trade maybe with a Vet and net a higher prospect in return. -
Perfect trading partner - Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to LouisEly's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
It would be all about prospects Rock. 27mil for ARam and Gallardo each of the next 2 seasons. Dodgers have Kershaw,Grienke,Ryu,Beckett and Gallardo in this case under contract for next season add Billingsley that's 6 but with Magill making it 7. Offer to take on Billingsley for an added top prospect in their farm. Billingsley isn't an awful pitcher, more a guy like Gallardo who projected better only he reached #3 at best while Gallardo reached #2 status. It's not about Gallardo being a salary dump guy, and that's the point of willing to take Billingsley on. 12mil next season almost like Gallardo. But if LA is serious about winning, 11mil Gallardo is a lot better than 12mil Billingsley. Brewers just take Billingsley on as a compromise being a losing team likely next season as finishing out his contract. -
Here's the worst part about the Brewers situation with Corey. the NYYankees the best I mean best team probably to see Corey be traded to this season, just lost Mark Texiera for the season. If, and it's a small if, Corey returns in time to actual make meaningful stat starts. Does one see the old, trade by waivers happening? What in return then happens? Of course this is assuming the Yanks drop the ball on acquiring a body in Tex's place before the trade deadline. This brings back what might have been: The Prince Fielder-for-Matt Cain rumors have been running rampant for a few years now, and though Hart going to San Francisco won't bring back such a large return, he could still bring the Brewers a quality pitcher in return. Jonathan Sanchez, Madison Bumgarner, or Zack Wheeler would be a fine get for Brewers GM Doug Melvin in exchange for Hart. Sigh, seriously if the team could have Bumgarner or even Wheeler imagine the possibilities? If trading Hart in 2010 happened, then maybe Fielder gets traded in the Offseason. The Brewers never get Grienke. Instead have Bumgarner leading the way 2011 and beyond while having Lawrie,Odorizzi,Cain, and Escobar. Plus whatever received in trade for Fielder. This may have been the year with Gallardo,Bumgarner,Peralta,Odorizzi leading us to the Playoffs. One Trade, if done at the right time, could have changed our entire landscape.

let's think this forward. Gallardo or Lohse get traded this is for good beyond the equivalent of 4starts. Skipping one for All-Star game. Either way, if he's your future #2/#3 let him have at it. There just really isn't any option right now. What's the innings cap per say for Hellweg project on this year?

Hadn't weighed in on this, but Trout for the time-being. Though, you add Puig to this when the season is over and I wonder if he's in the conversation or even winning it. Trout, Machado, Segura, Harper. I almost think Harper overworked his body. He looks freakish in build and bulky and you wonder if that isn't going to play well overall long term health-wise for the position he plays. I really like Machado. I'd trade Braun for him now straight up and pay 20million to do so if I were the GM. Machado,Segura? wow. Get it down Melvin! LOl

Trying to work this out. Taking on both Gallardo and ARam is 27mil additional payroll 2014/2015. For a team already pushing 200mil in payroll next season. They have Billingsley on contract still next season. Do the Brewers take Billingsley essentially swapping payroll obligations but then get a higher return with the Dodgers like you suggest Skeets, Lee And Pederson and probably asking for Reed with Stripling? Would probably have to include KRod/Axford/Henderson...one of them to net the four but still if you acquire Billingsley (when he returns from surgery) you at least have a veteran if you go ahead and trade Lohse. And then with Billingsley if he's worth his option pick it up, if not, depending on how he pitches you never know in trade next year's deadline. I just can't imagine Dodgers putting themselves in the 230mil if not more in payroll for both this season, and next...And that's before Kershaw's massive deal. -

Well, there you have it. I didn't do my homework enough to know that they have a 1st rd pick from 2009 playing CF in what amounts to his first full season. Looks like a good defender too so the gain in Gomez would only be offensively though Pollock is around a .300minors BA so if he sticks with that line he's at least a .750OPS+ batter and that's positive as well. Will have to set our sights elsewhere in what Ace is worth Gomez plus. It goes with another thread, Arizona has zero need to trade like they are all-in this year. Quite frankly it will be a lot of fun watching the DBacks win the West over and over again while the Dodgers spend 200+mil in payroll trying to do so. So they have Parra,Pollock,Eaton for OF. Goldscmidt at 1b, Hill at 2b. Gregorious at SS, Prado/Davidson for 3b. Montero at C. And Corbin,Skaggs,Bradley,Delgado Quartet for Starters Zeke Spruill to be the 5th then. Talk about an Organization with their act together. But hey, they're run by a Crazy Owner/GM right? Trading Upton? Trading Kelly Johnson for Hill? All those trades they've likely come out ahead every time the past decade it seems. -
You don't get compensation in draft pick now w/o a QO and that projects around 14mil this offseason. No chance Corey gets a QO, if he does this organization can go to hell for being idiots. No way does Corey deserve a raise! Morris doesn't look ready....now. there's what 3more months for him to change that perception. Hellweg presented nothing to resemble he'd be ready for the rotation midway through this season at the end of last season. Players improve, short sighting outlook to claim Morris isn't ready to play 1b next season when he has half a season yet to ahem "season" himself as looking ready.

Mind blown time. Currently Gomez is a net +36runs in value over Average CF in 72 games. That's .5runs/game. Do the math that's 2.5runs better every 5games which is what Bradley slates in as appearing. You cannot tell me he's 2.5runs better over the average pitcher every start. Now, Gomez can't possibly keep his pace right? But .3 runs certainly seems reasonable or 1.5runs every Bradley start. Going further with logic, Bradley being the projected Ace to be meabs he should sit in the #1 or 2 slot in a rotation. So now hes facing pitchers that should themselves be greater value than average. So not only does Bradley have to be better than avg. by 1.5runs to equal Gomez in value but he needs to be even greater in value to his team to net result wins. 2.7era vs 3.1 era isn't equal to Gomez so long as they have pitchers that compete to equal value in their slot in rotation. Corbin competes with other #1s Skaggs should compete with other #2s. Delgado should compete with other #3s now Bradley if slotted #4 will clearly dominate #4s but, its kind of a waste if an average level pitcher like Cahill can compete with other #4s. It becomes a Phillies type situation where the pitching does no godd when your hitters can't provide enough run support. It's in this reasoning Arizona should definitely not only find Gomez equal in value to Bradley but have to pay more than just Bradley to get Gomez. -
I see no reason for the Brewers to offer Corey any more than 5mil on a 1year deal. Some team will sign him though to a 9-11mil deal. Save the money, use it on Segura's contract talks. Gamel/Morris/ and even Green will be the options next season at 1b. And really? 2 bum knees from working out? Screams risk signing. For a team that is about to be broken down for some rebuild, bringing Hart back is the opposite of such process. But at 5mil or less on a losing team, it does afford the Brewers the opportunity to then trade him away for something rather than nothing as it stands now. Still not a good idea imo.

This is the kind of logic I am bringing to the idea of trading away Gomez. Span/Revere got Pitching prospects being less of the player Gomez is. If you follow the logic what those two got back in trade, suggesting Archie Bradley for Gomez heads up seems like a deal that could happen. Having Archie Bradley headline our staff with Schafer in CF. What is better? Gomez and our #5 or Bradley with Schafer@CF? Edit adding: I guess the way to look at it is as Brewer Fans, with our SP farm raising we look at an Ace in the Making like Bradley and think that's a once in a decade find! No way should our team ever trade him away for anybody. Meanwhile Arizona raises/or trades then raises SPs like it's a cant miss skill. Losing a guy like Bradley shouldn't hurt as much since they should feel confident they'll just create another opportunity to replace him with another Ace in a year or two. Probably by trading Gomez in the 2015/16Offseason. And letting some other team deal with extension talks/QO decisions. -
Yeah, there's a lot to be concerned about. But overall who else do you want starting? I'd rather put the highest upside guy out there vs. guys that are replaceable. I don't expect much from him, but he is likely the best guy to bring up to see pitch 6ip. DL guys:Estrada,Burgos,Figaro,Fiers. Narveson not looking like an option anymore. There's just no real bodies left to hide Hellweg down in AAA anymore.
