  1. Marcano isn't a bad prospect but I'd still say Turang is the better prospect of the two. Baseball America has Turang with a 60 hit tool and 40 power versus 50 and 30 for Marcano. Speed and defense are identical. I too prefer MLB pipeline or BA to fangraphs ratings. Turang had his draft status going for him and initially inflated his prospect rating. A guy like Marcano who signed a modest international FA deal is starting substantially lower on the prospect totem pole. It is certainly worth noting that Marcano is only roughly 2 months older than Turang, yet already has 50 MLB plate appearances on his ledger. Thing about Turang and draft status is that he was ranked lower and now ranks higher. So mlb.com feels he's more than worthy of the rank beyond just the draft ranking. I can't believe Pittsburgh jumped at this trade as like I said, seems they are buying extremely high on the non-headliners having a good(but not great) year. Frazier is an extremely tough out and Pittsburgh gave him away at no cost for the rest of '21 and another year of control. So SD can flip him this off-season and get the same or better return back likely. That or have a 3WAR middle infielder who's bat likely plays well in SD and the NL West stadiums.
  2. Frazier has 10+BWAR to his name and over 2 this year. Nothing about that says average. I think you are selling Marcano short a bit as a prospect, too. Ranking #5 in the Padres' stacked system is no small feat. Marcano would likely be #1 or #2 in the Brewers' system (ahead of Turang). He's legit. Turang is in the top 80 MLB prospects while Marcano is not. So no he would not be #1(Mitchell) or #2.
  3. So Pittsburgh got a Josh Harrison. I am surprised to see them send the equivalent of what? A 40ish? Draft pick salary Frazier and get only Marcano as headline. I suppose Michell has some outstanding Ks going on this season and may be groomed as a late inning stud. Still, you sent money what has to his salary for rest of season for 3 guys having solid (not great) years in minors? Plus Frazier has another year of control? Their has to be more. A ptbnl? Or isn't SD a competitive draft lottery team? That future pick. This is a bad trade considering Frazier has to be at his highest value in trade with added year of control, and this feels sorta like a dump big contract trade.
  4. [quote="adambr2" Are you comparing that across the board with other increases in velocity as well? They've also changed the way they've measured pitch speed in the last 9 years too. I don't think there's anything to see here. Liam is just good. For comparison's sake, take Aroldis Chapman who began in the league same timeframe as Liam Hendriks throwing 101+. He's not averaging 100 anymore since his age 29 season. Chapman loses 3mph Hendriks gains 4-5MPH?
  5. Peralta was sitting at 90-91 a few years ago. Some guys add velocity as they're developing. He was also exclusively pitching as a starter. by that tone based on Freddy's age and where Hendriks sat Freddy will be throwing 102MPH when his contract ends. Fangraphs shows his increase in velocity at age 26 and it's increased every season since at age of 32. Freddy recently turned 25. Just find it odd that Hendriks who I get move to bullpen adds 3MPH, but then adds 2 more MPH after turning 30 still pitching in the bullpen. 9MPH more velocity since his first 3 seasons. edit and that one was 100.5MPH to Urias!
  6. How does a ML pitcher like Liam Hendriks start his career at 90-91MPH and is tossing 99 10+years later?
  7. Wow has Garcia had a 4pitch walk this season that wasn't intentional? Keep the rally going
  8. Great Start by Woody. 7ip 3ERs 9ks. Not one xbh given up. Great showing to a national audience. Brewer rally cap time.
  9. I mean OB would suggest he be up there. I'd be just fine with him leading off or batting 2nd as he is this game. He doesn't slug enough to be 3 or 4 anymore imo. Plus he seems to still be capable at stealing bases.
  10. St Louis in that graph is next to Arizona. 87 runs only vs our 141. Think I read somebody nervous that St. Louis was possibly going to take a run should they beat up on Cincy this current series. Think we are approaching running away with this division by 15+games.
  11. Maybe part of it is getting such a big load of games facing Ari, Col, and 4 already vs Tex. While not playing Houston or Milw thus far. Avg. 7 runs per game (19gms) vs Col and Ari combined. 97gms overall. Gotta help.
  12. Big Atta boy to Taylor. That could start a winning streak here. Adames get some of the weight off his shoulders carrying this ream.
  13. I'd think just calling Cain up to rehab and not play while sending down Hiura is better than having Hiura waste a 26man spot. For July to last PA. Hiura has 18ks in 40PAs.
  14. Who knows but maybe Taylor has had success vs Giolito in minors when going back in time. Or just liking the future matchup when CC bats JBJ to replace Taylor and bullpen. Do often feel CC pre-determines his gameplan on defensive moves with PH like 6th inning or 7th inning this vs 8th inning and 9th inning.
  15. Why not Urias? He's not going to be a starting middle infielder before 2023 with Adames and Wong on the roster and maybe not even then depending on Wong's club option. Then the Brewers have Turang at SS in AA, he should be ready by 2023. They also just used a first round pick on Tyler Black, who is coming to pro-ball as an advanced hitter from college. He should also be knocking on the door at some point in 2023 as well. Urias is passable as a 3B in the vein of Gio Urshela or Jeimer Candelario, but most of the perennial contenders have a third basemen who brings more power to the table: Arenado, Bryant, Devers, Turner, Donaldson, Bregman, Rendon, Machado, Jose Ramirez, etc., meaning the Brewers probably don't view him as a long term answer at 3B. With four years of team control remaining, and a nice season under his belt he probably brings back the most talent for Milwaukee, and certainly more than Turang would. I would not trade Urias. I believe he is blossoming, will be more impact hitter as he ages on through his prime. Things are beginning to click for him and add more confidence he and Adames will be a fantastic pair in top of lineup.
  16. I don't know. Lewis Brinson was our consensus #1 prospect. Ortiz was up there. Considering how poorly the Yelich trade crew turned out, Im guessing you will see Turang offered in trade if they lost faith in him or acquired a piece with team control that fills a need. So like Urias for Grisham trade. Turang fwiw can obviously be headed a future at 2b/Utility after Wong's contract expires. So Adames imo doesn't block Turang atm. Do think team has options for same role which does make losing him less of impact. I'd be just fine trading Turang for something useful beyond just a rental. Mitchell I would not trade.
  17. [quote name="adambr2" The "savings" is in the team options. Team options like the ones Peralta has have tremendous value to the team. Adames isn't taking less than his arbitration projections AND giving the team two player options. That would make no sense for him. The longer you can get the team options for' date=' the better. Two is going to cost more upfront than one. If we can get three, even better. Team options are about the best value a team can get. They can get all of the potential reward without assuming major risk.[/quote] What savings in your proposal? You essentially give Adames more guaranteed money for the entire contract and he has no incentive to play hard the next 3 years. Reason Willy signs my less projected contract is because he sees more money right away that he can invest however he wants to make more money out of it than he could just going year-year and having to produce and work hard to keep pace on that projection. Take real estate. He can buy himself and parents a great home. Or he can tell a real estate that he's "projected" to make this money so give him the house loans and believe the imaginary income will exist even after death or unrecoverable injury. That insurance is how the team saves money on a projection both in arb projection and the future FA projection. The team has Yelich's contract and the Arb raises or contract extensions of Woodruff and Burnes to factor in on payroll. Paying Adames more these next 3years than likely they would is going to end up a reason you don't extend Burnes or trade one of the 2 away. The extension should lessen Adames' 2nd and 3rd year arb projection to accommodate Burnes and Woodruff's salaries by getting Adames more money up front.
  18. I don't quite get suppose hes at 3/30 projection so we offer 3/35 with 2 club options 15&20 mil option. So you take a projection add 7.5mil to it followed to continual raises like a FA model? Wheres the savings here on Milw's side? I always thought an extension with option years spread the wealth earlier to save money near back-end. Youre giving Adames 7.5 mil more than projected and trusting he'll remain worth 17.5M avg the 2 FA seasons. Or in essence paying Adames 2/40. on the FA seasons? He's on a hott streak. White hot like the comparable JJ Hardy used to go through. Those followed with streaks like the one he started the season with for Tampa. I'm excited too and all about Adames, but just not on same page on the money here. Done right the 3/30mil projection ought to look more like extending him at 3/27 rate but paying him 7.5, 9, 10.5 with option years where the buyout is 2.5mil. Then Adames has guaranteed projection of 3/30, a 29.5 guarantee. 1st year FA buyout I would go 14mil and 2yr I think 18.5 is fair. Toss in incentives to earn extra. Even now I look at this and feel I'm offering too much but all told in the 1st extension end Adames gets 5/59.5 to enter real FA with. He'll have made what? 1.7? Mil for his career with chance to earn 7.5 mil the next season vs a 3-4.5mil arb based projection? How much is he really leaving on the table? Remember he's not a Super 2. He's not, nor will he have won an MVP before going through yr 1 of 3 Arbs. Arb is a what have you done. FA is a what you may do value.
  19. Screw Adam Schefter. He has crapped on WI sports teams on NFL draft day, and Milwaukee hosting game 6 of NBA finals with a chance to clinch. What a tool. He's surpassed hate of Stephen A Smith doing these tweets about "leaked information".
  20. We could pick up the option and trade him. If he has a successful 2nd half. 1 year over that competition of FA similarities could fit a team's roster needs more than potential multi-yr deals. Or less talented 1yr FA deals. If it becomes mutual and Avi declines I don't have a problem with it. Avi reminds me of Perez at the plate. Eager to swing at 1st pitches even if they are 6" out of the zone because its a big moment. Runs in to some big hits more often, and you're not upset with his defense overall. But in the end he's your basic Starter OF with some downside.
  21. Not to hijack this thread, but man the Mariners are their own worst enemy: From that list they traded: Alex Jackson (#6 overall) late bloomer but reached the Majors and is on the DL for Atlanta, Seattle got two players both of whom have been out of baseball for several years. Tyler O'Neill traded to St. Louis for Marco Gonzalez (not a bad pitcher but they traded away the better player in the deal). Ketel Marte --traded to Arizona they did receive Mitch Haniger and Segura but included Taijuan Walker. Segura was flipped in another salary dump. Haniger isn't bad but they traded away the best player in the deal. Ryan Yarbrough--traded to Tampa Bay with Mallex Smith for Drew Smyly. A complete flop as Smyly never pitched for Seattle, and they then traded Mike Zunino to TB to reacquire Smith Edwin Diaz --They did get Kelenic who has superstar potential....but Diaz has been terrific the last two years and has team control remaining. Cano is a knucklehead but when he has played he has been productive. But besides the players they gave up to get Kelenic they gave the Mets 20 million dollars and took back Jay Bruce's and Anthony Swarzak's contracts. They then paid the Phillies 18 million dollars to take Jay Bruce and paid Atlanta 2 million to take Swarzak. So they are one star player, Cano and 40 million dollars into Kelenic. That's an insanely high price. Obviously, Freddy Peralta for Lind is a bust as well. Hard to believe all the nice talent they drafted/signed then peddled away for diminishing returns. Only gripe I have is the Ketal Marte and Walker trade for Segura and Haniger. Not looking it up yet but Im fairly certain Walker wasn't a good pitcher for AZ. Now I'll go look up to see. Yeah Seattle likely has no issues with that trade. Haniger is Marte even. Segura had 7.4BWAR before turning in a trade for JP Crawford and a roundabout rental of Encarnacion. Walker pitched 1 season for AZ 2.6WAR and -.1WAR the following 2 after TJ erased most of those 2 seasons. FA after (that a good few wanted to give a shot FA signing)
  22. Just gotta say replay on IP for Freddy at AS game was- 0-2 count strikeout, 0-2 count strikeout, 2-2 count strikeout. He kd more batters than balls thrown.
  23. This fits the mold of drafting more than likely un-signables but because you drafted them get to be the team getting to know them deeper for a future draft potential. Would be surprised if the signed 5 or more of these kids. Basically you check on the top 10 you want to sign and work your way down with what you have to offer til 1 or more agree to it. Which is a great thought process in my opinion. Land a kid that you wouldn't have expected signing and likely with the restrictions, for less than expected. Gain your lottery ticket that possesses talent vs filler that fizzles at A ball talent. You save money on the kids that don't sign vs that filler you paid.
  24. I'll assume having a 5round draft in 2020 plus not scouting HS juniors in 2020 that were only capable to scout them as seniors for the games leading up to the draft this year. Isn't it a larger college filled draft class due to the 5rd draft.
  25. Doesn't the rounds after 10 start the drafting un-signables stretch? Just start gobbling up top 100s that are committed to College? Oh and btw that 8th rd choice and writeup sounds like a great pick there.
