  1. Maybe he was in consideration at one point, but I believe the finalists have been narrowed down to Rob Manfred, Tim Brosnan and Tom Werner at this point.
  2. Pretty sure Fondy meant LF, but I'd wager Haniger would have had a tough time beating out Braun for the title of "RF of the future" considering he's signed through 2020 with a 2021 option.
  3. I'm no scientist but I believe it's similar to when Manny Ramirez got busted for using a female fertility drug. It doesn't mask the steroids so much as it's taken to counteract some of the negative side effects.
  4. I think the idea would be to pick up Aramis's option and slide him to first with Pablo playing third. Though if we're going that route I'd be curious about Headley on a 1 year prove yourself contract. Parra himself will be an interesting decision as he should top 6 million in Arby's next year. That's a lot of roast beef sandwiches for a 4th outfielder.
  5. With us facing Hunter Pence this series thought I'd throw up a link to this "scouting report" that was released around the time the Diamond Mines Scouting Report Database went live... http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/2599085/PENCE.jpg
  6. Milwaukee is 19th in strikeouts--below average! How about K's on balls out of the zone? Is there a stat for that? Don't know of a stat for that but the Brewers do have the 2nd highest out of zone swing rate in MLB at 34.8%, so they definitely chase a lot of bad pitches. Braun 41.8%, Gomez 40.9%, Aramis 39.8% and Scooter at 38.7% are the biggest culprits though they are also four of our best hitters so I guess it's working for them.
  7. The other leadoff options in today's lineup are Parra, Weeks or Segura. I'll take Gomez in a funk over any of the three.
  8. As others have said Fiers and Estrada are essentially the same guy. Marco gives you little more certainty, Fiers a little more potential upside. I'd rather see Fiers myself but the difference is marginal enough that no matter who gets the call I'd say it's a stretch to call it dumb.
  9. Stuff like this makes me happy that our skipper doesn't get involved with this sort of retaliatory nonsense. It accomplishes about as much as taking a leak up a hill.
  10. I had no problem with the conversation at all. I was just trying to point out that using ESPN commenters to support your point of view does more harm to your position than it does good. That's akin to saying Kurt Suzuki is a better hitter than Paul Goldschmidt because he has a higher batting average.
  11. "If you look at the ESPN conversation" Because ESPN is the known hangout for reasonable internet commenters. Most of the JSonline commenters share your views as well so you're in really good company stache.
  12. Yes I'm believing it. The same way I believe that Roenicke did not give Braun three straight take signs on a 3-0 count whatever game that was. The same way I know that 99% of the time when the 3rd base coach goes through the signs he is not actually giving a sign. The radio broadcast noted at the time it happened that Garza was stretching uncomfortably on the mound at the end of the 6th inning, so they obviously knew something was up. Go read Garza's quotes in McCalvy's post game article. Or maybe he's lying about being hurt to cover for his manager.
  13. The justification is this, the players respect him and play hard for him. That's really just about all you can ask for in this day and age. All manager's manage by the same book, so it's not like the hypothetical next guy is going to walk through the door and do anything differently. I remember a lot of people were pumped when Macha was hired because he was so much smarter than idiot Yost and the team could finally realize its true potential. What happened? He was a codgy old fart, was disconnected from the players and two years of our then young core's prime window was wasted. I also remember a lot of people hoping we'd give Bobby Valentine the big bucks to bring him over from Japan. The Red Sox did just that and we all know how that worked out.
  14. They went 2-5 and got outscored 26-17 this year. That's bad--but not exactly domination. It doesn't make sense to use recent history to justify that the Brewers "can't beat" the Braves. History also shows that the Braves can't win in the playoffs. They have lost 6 playoff series in a row, plus a wild card playoff. Still, both stats are meaningless because MLB rosters change so much that it doesn't really matter. So what if the 2012 Brewers got killed by the Braves. The rosters are completely different now. I don't even have to use recent history to think the Braves would beat the Brewers again in a playoff series. All I have to do is go by what has happened this year. Again the Brewers failed to beat the Braves. Atlanta is just one of those teams that often gets the better of Brewers. Just like the Lards. At least with the Lards we're capable of beating them on the road. With Atlanta it's once in a blue moon. Roster wise I think the Brewers are superior. Unfortunately it seems like they are incapable of proving this on the field. Good thing that the Brewers are neck and neck with the Dodgers for the top seed in the NL. If the Crew can avoid the NL East then their chances of progressing to the NLCS go up. Brewers have fared better against the Dodgers and Giants in the past few years. Last year the Cardinals lost their regular season series against both the Pirates & the Dodgers. They subsequently played both those teams in the playoffs and beat them. It's almost like once the playoffs start anything can happen.
  15. With 60 games remaining the team that most prognosticators picked to finish 3rd or 4th in the National League Central is instead in 1st place.
  16. As Topper pointed out we all know that RR is a strict adherent to the 100 pitch rule so there is no way Garza was getting pulled for a pinch hitter with 71 pitches, a 2 run lead and 1 hit allowed through 6 innings. Unless he was hurt. Which lo and behold he turned out to be. It was fun & telling reading through pages of baseless RR bashing though.
  17. They didn't look mentally soft yesterday when they scored 7 runs after falling behind by 4 early. They looked mentally soft blowing a 2 run lead on the road in a big game. They looked mentally tough beating David Price and Adam Wainwright in back to back games. We can play this game all day. They're still in first place and have won more games than they have lost so I guess in aggregate they've been more "mentally tough" than "mentally soft" this year, so calling them a mentally soft team is inaccurate.
  18. The hit Garza gave up was a play Reynolds has made before too. Why not let him go 7-8 and then use Duke? Didn't watch either, but on the radio broadcast they mentioned that Garza looked like he tweaked something and was stretching uncomfortably on the mound near the end of the 6th inning. Guessing they didn't want to risk further injury.
  19. The fact that Garza was ready to bat tells me that he wasn't really hurt or didn't want out of the game at all. A player will never ask out of a game, they play hurt all the time as a point of pride. Of course he didn't want or ask to be taken out. It's the manager and coaching staff's job to protect them from further/more severe injury in certain instances.
  20. They didn't look mentally soft yesterday when they scored 7 runs after falling behind by 4 early.
  21. They were the natural rival when the Brewers were an American League team.
  22. Hey Mods, I think the site is broken. I just saw someone admit to being wrong on the internet. Admirable job, Thurston.
