  1. The Brewers are actually pretty great on the basepaths, currently 5th in MLB in value added on the bases per fangraphs. It just goes to show that people will harp on and remember the negatives while ignoring and forgetting all the times the team's aggresive baserunning pays off. This applies to offense, defense and pitching too. A great example is people who complain about Gomez's approach despite that approach having produced the 14th most batting runs in MLB thus far, more than Lucroy and his "more ideal" approach.
  2. Sure the offense has looked terrible of late, but on the season we're second in the NL in runs scored behind only COL. Our starting lineup is solid 1-7 with one black hole, Jean Segura. I don't seem to recall anyone calling this a 100 win team before the season started, so when they were on pace to do just that the logical assumption would be that at some point an extended cold streak was bound to occur. Here it is. Despite the terrible baseball we've witnessed of late we're still in first place. We've been in first place most if not all of the season. Did anyone honestly believe we'd lead the division wire to wire? Or that winning one of the most competitive divisions in baseball would be easy? This is baseball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains.
  3. Building off Logan's post I've also noticed they fare extremely well when they surrender fewer runs than does their opponent.
  4. Yaz career wRC+ is 130. Papi w/BOS wRC+ is 146. Ortiz has played 12 years with the Sox so if you limit Yaz to his best 12 years (1963-74) his wRC+ goes up to 145 for that stretch so prime Yaz is essentially equal to Papi at the plate. My personal vote for the second best Red Sox hitter would be Tris Speaker who managed a 164 wRC+ in over 4500 plate appearances with Boston between 1908 and 1915.
  5. It sounded more to me like Archer is the one with hurt feelings here. Ortiz cadillacs every long fly ball he hits, the other team cries foul, and Papi proceeds to not care as evidenced by his comments & continued cadillacking. How this still qualifies as "news" is mystifying to me.
  6. Assuming Aramis is healthy at season's end I see him and the crew agreeing to ditch the option in favor of a new 2 year, 25 million contract. They'll then move him to first and sign Headley to a 1 year prove yourself contract. Corner infield WOAH SOLVDD.
  7. There are signs given by the third base coach almost anytime a runner is on base, and many times when no runners are on base. In the large majority of cases no actual sign is given. It's a ruse.
  8. So glad Roenicke gave Luc the "hit a walk off" sign. He really should send that one out more often.
  9. I'm just baffled as to how RR can get blamed for some of this stuff. Do you really think he gave Rickie the green light and then told Braun to take? I HIGHLY doubt that's the case. And having him come out of the dugout yelling doesn't do anything. This. Unless you have figured out the Brewers signs (and they for some reason showed Sedar giving the entire sequence prior to the 3-0 pitch on the telecast) you have no idea if Braun had a green light or not. Based on Weeks having the green light the at bat prior I'd guess Braun had it as well and simply did not get the pitch he was looking for on 3-0.
  10. Meh, that home run was to right. He's gotta start hitting them to left ifhe wants to impress Buster Olney.
  11. As it should, this isn't video games, bad throws do happen in real life. The Brewers are in the middle of the NL for baserunning runs Being 'good' and being lucky are two separate things. They got very lucky that both of those were bad throws. Maybe they decided based on scouting that Reds' outfielders have bad arms and would be likely to make bad throws so they pushed the envelope. I hate running into outs as much as the next guy, but the fact that people constantly bemoan our "terrible" baserunning when the numbers show we're middle of the pack kinda proves that people remember negative outcomes far more than they do positive ones.
  12. Hypothetical here, Weeks doesn't follow Gomez when he took of for 3rd in the 9th yesterday. Braun's deep fly scores Gomez to give us the lead. As such, instead of Wooten coming and losing it in the bottom of the 9th, KRod comes in and gets the save. Does this move still happen today?
  13. Aiken should have asked Dylan Covey how turning down seven figures out of high school turned out for him. Wish him and his UCL the best of luck but odds are he won't get a bonus bigger than 5 million next time he's drafted.
  14. Minor quibble, but does anyone else wish Roenicke would have broken up Peralta/Nelson in the rotation following the break? I just don't like slotting two starters with the same general profile/arsenal back to back.
  15. I would think the absolute soonest any of those four see Milwaukee is a September call up in 2018.
  16. Of course there is a ridiculous double standard, it is the mainstream media. Do you really expect fair, unbiased reporting? Braun will always be villified more than other offenders because of two things, his ill advised press conference and his MVP trophy. The writers voted for him, it was revealed that he "cheated", so they feel personally betrayed and have responded as such. As for the talk of Ryan needing to give back salary or the award needing to stop, hasn't it already stopped? When is the last time anyone suggested that?
  17. Probably right around the same number as guys on the teams they beat in the WS and on all the other 28 teams as well. Ortiz has always had impressive raw power. Griffey and A-Rod certainly seem impressed by Ortiz launching bombs out of T-Rats stadium back in 1996.
  18. Thanks for the tech advice brewerfans! Got at bat in time to hear Strasburg walk Scooter out of pure fear.
  19. Thanks livefor. Was looking at that but my billing address is in Wisco so I thought the crew might be blacked out? As long as I can get the radio feed I'll be happy with that.
  20. So I'm in California for the month and would like to at the very least listen to the games while I'm out here, can anyone help a somewhat technologically disinclined brutha out? Many thanks.
  21. Harrison is going over Braun because he can play 2B and 3B. His positional versatility outweighs Braun's superior bat for the purpose of this all important exhibition.
  22. Scooter is at a 126 wRC+ through almost 500 career plate appearances. Since the start of 2011 the leaders in wRC+ for second base are Cano (139), Zobrist (124), Utley (118), Pedroia (117) and Jason Kipnis (115). At the risk of being labelled a "hater" I don't think Scooter is a 126 wRC+ true talent player. Prove me wrong Ryan!
  23. Mr. Padre career: 10,232 plate appearances, 434 strikeouts. Mark Reynolds 2009-10: 1,258 plate appearances, 434 strikeouts.
  24. MLB average for shortstops is 251/310/371 thus far in 2014 so compared to the rest of the league Segura's May was pretty much right in the middle, somewhere between very solid and pretty bad. Kind of funny how coming up he was considered a plus hitter whose skills at shortstop were in question and now a couple years later he's proven to be more than capable of handling short but with a questionable bat.
  25. I'd say the reason Polanco is ballyhooed compared to guys like Scooter and Khrush is that he is a legit 5 tool player whereas Gennett (hit) and Davis (power) both only have one plus tool.
