  1. Have always thought Maldonado looked like a natural behind the plate, but apparently he is one at the plate too.
  2. That extension is looking better every day. Gotta wonder if Carlos hadn't signed and instead hit the FA market after last year he would've been gone on an Ellsbury sized contract. The two are probably a wash on defense and speed with Carlos having better power & arm tools while Jacoby has a better hit tool. Ellsbury has a longer record of elite performance, but also has a longer record of getting hurt and is two years older. While it would've been fun to see how the whole thing played out, I'm really glad we didn't have to.
  3. Just wanted to give a heads up to brewerfan bobble collectors that a consignor just dropped off a Segura Season Ticket bobble for the MEARS April auction, which will be launching on the evening of Friday the 25th and will run through Saturday May 3rd. Will probably start it out at $25 and let it fly.
  4. "Toyota Territory Located on the Field Level in right center field, Toyota Territory is open to fans at all home games on a first come, first serve basis. Enjoy a great view of the action with seating right behind the outfield wall, high top tables, and large flat screen televisions." This is all I could find about it in the Miller Park A-Z Guide. I've seen single game tickets for the ATI Club in right field pop up here and there for select games, but can't recall ever seeing them for Tundra Territory. Thought I remembered hearing at one point that tickets were available through Toyota dealers? Maybe go take a test drive?
  5. I emailed BW3 years ago inquiring about the third W in a shameless attempt at getting a gift certificate/voucher and apparently it stands for "Weck", which is some kind of beef sandwich popular in the Buffalo area. Not sure if it counts as the Milwaukee area, but I will throw out Buckets Pub in Racine as a destination for hard core wingers.
  6. It's about 3 miles from the stadium but I always recommend The Happy Dog to anyone that is going to be in Cleveland. $5 for a huge kosher dog with as many of their house made toppings as you want. They also have a ton of craft beers if that is your thing.
  7. The PA announcer kept calling him Kenny too so it sounded like an incomplete question. Can he WHAT people's walls? Can he paint paint people's walls? Can he climb them? I don't know. I'd also like to share my observation that Omar Garcia really reminded me of Nomar Garciaparra, just without the N & the parra.
  8. Not only have we set a team record in payroll ($$$ = wins right?) but we just beat the World Series Champz. I know its early, and I don't wanna jinx anything, but...well, you guys can figure it out.
  9. While I agree with your first sentence, if the team does somehow land the number one pick in next year's draft it will be protected. Signing a free agent would result in us relinquishing our 2nd round pick, I believe.
  10. The idea that every hitter in MLB should be a capable bunter is just unrealistic. Most of the guys that get regularly shifted probably haven't bunted in their whole life because they've been the best hitter on every team they've ever been on. Plus as that fangraphs articles illustrates even guys that bunt all the time only get it down about half the time, which really shows how much skill is required to execute a successful bunt off MLB caliber velocity/movement.
  11. Looks like JuanGone has landed in Toronto. Secretly hoping for a JoeyBats, EE5 type transformation just for the hours of entertainment it would supply.
  12. How does this deal prove an uneven playing field in MLB? The Angels have the best player in the game, three players making 24 million per year, and project to finish 3rd in their division. They paid 142 million dollars and won 78 games last year. Over 50 million more than we spent to win 74.
  13. Alex Rodriguez signed for 10 years and 252 million in the year 2000. Small market teams have remained competitive in the 13 seasons subsequent.
  14. Say Ilitch dies in a copule years, Miggy blows out a knee and the team goes up for sale. You think owing a washed up player $250 million dollars is going to cause mega-rich potential new owners to balk at getting in on one of only 30 ownership stakes in a league which generated over 8 billion dollars in revenue this year? Say Arte Moreno put the Angels up for sale today, would he lose money? Hopefully these huge mega deals catch the eyes of young elite athletes all over the country and help to steer them towards baseball and away from other sports which are more physically (and mentally) perilous that don't offer nearly the financial rewards available to them in MLB.
  15. Kottaras wRC+, last 3 years, 109, 113, 102. Overbay wRC+, last 3 years, 88, 92 & 86. Count me among those who would greatly prefer George to Ohnoverbay.
  16. League average OBP was .318 last year, so Gomez certainly was not a low OBP hitter in 2013. Only nine teams managed an OBP higher than Carlos's .338 from their leadoff spot in 2013 so his "low" OBP would have been higher than 20 teams received from their first batter. The only people who realistically project to have higher OBPs in 2014 are Braun, Ramirez and Lucroy who are hitting 3, 4, 5. While I agree that Gomez is not the ideal leadoff hitter in a perfectly constructed lineup, in the context of the players available to the 2014 Milwaukee Brewers he is pretty much the best option we have. My prediction: If Billy Hamilton hits leadoff all season, he will lead the league in outs.
  17. Since Gomez was terrible in 54 plate appearances leading off in 2012 means he will be terrible doing the same in 2014? Batting 2nd in 2012 Gomez slashed 255/311/470 in 168 PA's. I'd maintain its irrelevant to any 2014 projection, but to say it failed miserably is not really accurate when he slashed 260/305/463 on the season. Parsing the lineup is a lot of fun for fans but ultimately our 5 best hitters will likely be making the most trips to the plate and that is all that really matters.
  18. Any talk of trying to game the system for an extra year of team control for a pitcher is silly, imo. Position players, sure. Hold them down a couple months and get an extra year of team control. If a pitcher can get guys out at the Major League level, he should be pitching there. Who knows if any pitcher's arm will still be attached to his body six or seven years from now.
  19. Best free place to park I've found for BMOHBC events is east of the river/Water St. I normally park on either Broadway or Milwaukee between Juneau and Kilbourn. Then just walk down and cross the bridge over the river on Highland Ave back behind Rudy's. It's like a 6 block/5-10 minute walk.
  20. Former Jack Z right hand man Tony Blengino has us at 29/30 with only the Angels lower. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/ranking-the-minor-league-systems-16-30/
  21. Big Wang advocate here. He is the highest upside lefty arm in the organization. Let him start the year in mop up/long duty and see what happens.
  22. Any official word on if Lucroy will see time at first on days he's not behind the dish like they did towards the end of last year? If so, it would seem the best bet is to just make Reynolds the everyday guy since it's looking like Weeks and Bianchi are your back up infielders. At that point if you want to keep one of JuanGone/Oooo in order to platoon at first you can only carry one backup outfielder. I'd rather have Gindl than either of the aforementioned.
  23. This is a very exciting development. Since spending money is directly proportional to winning baseball games we should likewise set a franchise record in victories.
  24. I'm with you WarningTrack. Big fan of the Grand Branyan, but very meh on Reynolds despite them being more or less the exact same hitter as you posted. I think the reasons are two fold. First is aesthetics. Branyan had that easy lefty swing, whereas Reynolds is righty and has a little more effort to his swing. Second I think is just the general consensus of the organization at the time of the acquisition. When Branyan first came on we were ascending with our young talent so there was more excitement all around whereas now we are mired on the downslope of that same young talent curve and malaise is far more prevalent throughout the fanbase.
  25. Thanks, Mass. I scrolled down to the comments so fast to see what kind of trash BackToCali was going to talk that I completely missed that sentence. Will be interested to read the player comments once the full list is posted.
