  1. There'll be some interesting names on the free agent starting pitching market, but I don't see us signing any of the guys likely to get a QO. Should be interesting to see how Halladay pitches when he's back in the bigs. I'd imagine Melvin would be interested on a one year prove you're healthy deal, though Roy will likely want to sign with a team in the Grapefruit League.
  2. The Royals would be a good trade partner for Aoki in the offseason. Their outfield is pretty thin after Gordon/Cain and they've gotten .317 & .300 OBPs out of their top two lineup spots this year.
  3. Can't tell if our all homegrown rotation depresses me more or less than our current real life rotation.
  4. Since "M.V.P." somehow stands for "Player With the Most R.B.I. on a Playoff Team" it will be Cabrera in a landslide. Last year I think Trout supporters could make a legitimate case given the Angels won more games than the Tigers and Trout provided at the very least equal value as Cabrera over less total games played, but with the Angels irrelevant this year I can't see even the most die hard SABR voters putting Trout ahead of Miggy on their ballots.
  5. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/jonathan-lucroy-on-the-art-of-receiving/ Really good read for fans of Lucroy's receiving abilities.
  6. How much does it cost to test all these players in both the major and minor leagues multiple times a year? It would seem these funds would be better diverted towards tracking down the dealers/suppliers and just get rid of testing all together since it clearly isn't effective in even the slightest degree. That would of course pre-suppose that MLB actually wants to rid the game of PED's and not just give the public the perception that they do.
  7. Yuni may be terrible but I would wager that zero of our current organizational infield prospects ever match his 4187 career major league plate appearances. Draw whatever inferences you see fit from this particular suspicion.
  8. 100% correct, SRB. MLB's testing is a complete joke and facade. If 10 players are suspended as result of this investigation it will be as many players as have been suspended for failed tests in the last 4 years. That is easy math.
  9. 2013 Hall of Fame inductee fun facts!!! Deacon White is said to have still believed the earth to be flat. Jacob Ruppert bought Babe Ruth from the Red Sox for a hundred grand. Hank O'Day presided over Merkle's Boner. Now that is just fun to type.
  10. Sveum said Garza wouldn't be traded before his start, and then this happens. I don't even know how to react. I always thought Dale was one of the good guys but he's no better than that lying cheater Ryan Braun. Au revoir, cruel world, au revoir.
  11. Prince's second bomb was epic. Cuddy did better than I expected. Cespedes putting on an absolute demonstration currently. Hoping for something like this at some point...
  12. Ridnour/Wolters/Ish Mayo Delfino/Giannis Ersan/Henson/Udoh/Gooden Sanders/Zaza/Ayon Those are the 13 guys I believe we currently have. I'd think Ish, Gooden and Ayon are in suits most nights so we pretty much need 2 guys that can play the 2/3 as I don't see Giannis getting many minutes. Depending on who those 2 guys are this team has a chance to be pretty bad, I think. Not sure what our cap situation is/how much they need to spend to get to the floor but I'd love to rescind Jennings as I don't enjoy watching him play at all and am scared if he's back on the QO he'll be motivated, push us up to like the 6/7 seed and Kohl will lose his mind even more (if that is even possible?) and give him the keys to the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
  13. Has the season really been that atrocious though? Let's talk Lohse. Many didn't like the signing because he didn't make us a playoff team. Well if you're not a playoff team it's better to win 60 games than it is to win 79, and that is essentially what we are on pace to do. Entering the season the best any non HOU/MIA club could hope for was the 3rd pick in the 2014 draft, we're currently in line for the 4th pick. I'd say that is pretty good. People bemoan the lack of impact talent in the system then bemoan the terrible field on the team which will give us the best chance to acquire future impact talent. It makes no sense to me. Would people be happier if we were hanging around .500 with Mark A/DMGM thinking we can go on a run and contend? I think the season is going splendidly myself, and look forward to hopefully acquiring some new prospects in the coming weeks.
  14. Altuve : 1248 PA, 284/325/377, 2.4 WAR Segura : 559 PA, 302/344/437, 2.8 WAR Segura's career triple slash is better across the board than Altuve, who has no hope of adding power to his resume. Throw in that he is a shortstop and I just don't see Altuve being a realistic comp for a potential Jean extenion.
  15. New York Daily News with some details about MLB's meeting with Alex Rodriguez. Meanwhile, an A-Rod spokesman told The News Saturday night in reference to a possible plea deal that “nobody from Alex’s team has made any such comments, and as we have said before, we are respecting the process and following the procedures as outlined in the joint agreement." http://tinyurl.com/ob5fy5j
  16. I really hope the Bucks follow our stealth tank lead for 2013/14 season.
  17. Florida juries.
  18. According to Gord Ash he will be both hitting and pitching.
  19. I pretty much assume that everyone in all professional sports is on something because (1) the financial incentive to do so is great (B) the testing in all three leagues is a joke and (!) with the number of other players using you are at a disadvantage if you don't. That said, this whole fiasco does nothing to lessen my impression of Braun or any Cardinal or Cub that may be involved. If someone fails a test, loses their arbitration hearing and is subsequently suspended they certainly deserve it. Anyone who is suspended as a result of this investigation will have been wronged in my eyes because the whole thing is clearly a joke from a legal perspective.
  20. Sure Franklin, Miller and Zunino are all highly rated prospects but so were Ackley, Smoak and Montero. With less than 300 combined plate appearances I think it's probably a little early to make any definitive evaluations as to their ability to produce in MLB. And if Z weant to ownership with the idea of trading Franklin, Hultzen and Paxton for one year of pre-breakout Carlos Gomez I think the Mariners would already have a new GM.
  21. Kinda funny how when Z was here it was all bats/no arms and now in Seattle it's the reverse with Walker/Hultzen their top prospects and Ackley/Smoak/Montero all bombing out.
  22. They may not have phrased it just like that, but say Braun told his own legal team he never took anything and they didn't believe him. You can't go to an appeal and just say, "well Ryan told us he didn't do it." It's their obligation to investigate all angles and part of that likely included contacting Biogenesis and asking if they ever sold any substance banned by MLB to their client. Then Biogenesis asks, "who is your client?"
  23. Sure they are, that's a given. My point is by going through this whole investigation MLB is really compromising the integrity of their testing program. You claim to have the best of the best, yet you're only catching about 2-3% of the cheaters. I personally have always thought MLB's drug testing program was nothing more than a dog and pony show put out there to give the public the impression that the game is clean. The results of this "investigation" would seem to prove that is indeed the case.
  24. So here's what I'm trying to figure out. MLB claims to have the best drug testing program in all of professional sports. Reports indicate "over 100" players are listed in Biogenesis records. So how come only 3 players have tested positive in the last calendar year?
