  1. Adam Gase makes way to much sense for Packers. Figure the Broncos will have large interest in him. My gut tells me McDaniels or Gase will be the pick. Fine with either choice. I think there are far more issues in Miami that lead to Gase not turning team around than him. Both have worked & helped aging QBs to some incredible seasons. Unlike many other candidates, easier to buy into those guys for Rodgers.... both helped Manning & Brady pass for 50+ TDs. They have proven their worth as top level offensive minds. Tannenhill & Osweiler simply are not good QBs regardless of coach.
  2. Dan Campbell will interview (requested) is a hard nosed, no nonsense guy who will shake things up. He worked with & took over for Philbin in Miami after the firing. Could seem him retain Joe as OC due to respect he has for him. Maybe steal Pete Carmichael away from Saints with an opportunity to call the plays (Pete has same role with Payton as Joe had with Mike). He is high energy, believes in building a team & great locker room. If someone is not on board with the overall goal of team.... he will quickly replace them. Moss’s press conferences wouldn’t fly with Campbell. He doesn’t call plays & that is not something he will do. Think he’d be a very interesting target. Again I like managers. People want accountability to be held... he will accomplish that
  3. This draft & our position is perfect to finally land an OLB. This is one of the best EDGE drafts in awhile. Packers can move up if they want to compete to get Bosa (unlikely) or Allen. Then you have the giant grouping of Ferrell, Burns, Sweat, and Polite whole all are projected to go 10-25. Combine will play a big role with stock of these guys. Derrick Brown, Reshan Gary, and Jeffrey Simmons are all 3-4 DEs who could be impact guys as well next to Clark. FS Deonte Thompson is absolutely perfect ballhawking safety. Would love to move up with that 2nd pick to get him. Jonah Williams is projected from top 10 to late first. He is only lineman I have interest in 1st with either pick. He is perfect Packer swing lineman. He can play RT. He has great feet and technique to make up for smaller arms. He is just smart & a technician. Not over powering but just absolutely sound. Late 1st TE targets will be available with Noah Fant, Albert O, & Irv Smith Jr. if they have good combine. It’s a terrible year to have such an awful QB class to not help guys drop down the board. 3 picks in top 44 though could really fill holes. A way too early guess but if you could get FS Thompson at 12 Burns/Ferrell/Sweat in late first (Chock Saints!) TE Albert O or Fant who enjoyed watching at Iowa That’s 3 major holes patched
  4. I love Fitz. NW made a total of 6 bowl games I think in over 100 years prior to him. He has made 9 in 13 years while Northwest is essentially a Ivy League school academically. He is a CEO type. He oversees everything but let’s his coordinators do their job. He is a defensive minded coach as well. 2 issues with him. Doesn’t have the pro relationships to build a great staff. He is going to kind of have to shot in dark. 2nd, the adjustment to the NFL locker room. Not worried about the game as much since he will hire guys who know the NFL game to coordinate.
  5. Zero energy. Effort is pathetic. Announcing is kind of a weird combo of the sleepy voice of Robert Smith & the overexcited/over the top counter part. Sad coming off two weeks where Philbin had these guys at least putting out effort. They completely quit so far on him today. Audition over for him
  6. Earlier in his career he was benched for Mark Brunell for bad performance (there was a debate for a while as to who should be the starter). I loved Brunell and soon as he went to Jags, my dad bought me a Jag Brunell Jersey.... justified benching Highly doubt my 9 year old will ask for a Kizer Jersey if ARod sat. Point I want ARod playing Sunday regardless of record..... and Brunell was amazing
  7. Pass blocking has been tough all year. Even Edwards when healthy struggled this season which took him out of 1-2 round draft pick he was suppose to be. Detzen is a guard/center so when at left tackle he doesn’t do great. He is merely a run muller out there Van Lanen & Bruss are inexperienced and learning.
  8. I love Thon’s energy & stretch 5 abilities but he hasn’t developed as much as I hoped he would. Still have hope for him and some body types (such as KG & Durant) just can’t pack on weight. They feed him 6-7k of calories a day & he still doesn’t add much. Genetics play giant role beyond weights & calories. He is a 7’0 ectomorph... 6 foot ectomorphs struggle to gain weight & body build.... add an extra foot to that
  9. It’s great to see DJ developing! Happy to see the NBA now using the G League as a minor league these days. So many guys are just not ready when they come. Prior a guy like Wilson would sit on bench with no minutes or way to get meaningful in game development until he was written off. While he wasn’t a 1 & done, he was a late bloomer who didn’t put it together until year he came out. To me, he is starting to pass Thon simply because he is rebounding & bringing defense. Moreover, he has performed better offensively in small sample.
  10. Could you image what our offense could be if we had a QB who was remotely a threat? Teams load box with 8 to stop Taylor & still can’t do it. When you have a back like that even an average QB could make big plays.... Hornibrook & Coan have Wisconsin as one dimensional as most youth & middle school teams. Ride your beast man child back, throw in a couple passes here & there.... pray ball goes where it is suppose to. Sadly we actually have one of our best receiving cores in awhile.
  11. Judging from injury report, we will see ton of young guys. There are a few guys I hope see field a lot over starters. WRs Moore, Kumerow, Lazard, with MVS who already plays a lot. Tonyan should get good amount of reps. Defensively, we are already beat up & inexperienced. Troy Brown is an aggressive CB I’d like to keep seeing more of but outside of that.... we already play a 2nd team mostly. If Rodgers was to sit, Boyle is only one I’d want to watch. He has special arm & we have seen Kizer & what he can do.
  12. Importance of Keston Huira? I don’t know, [sarcasm]how important is a future Hall of famer, 15 time all-star, 4 time MVP, and 10 time silver slugger winner? Answer? Still less important than having Gennett[/sarcasm] I’m a big Huira fan & really believe in his bat. He just has it for a hit tool. He won’t hurt you with Ks. For 2nd base he should give you 15-20 hrs which is plenty for the position. Not a fan of his walk percent. 7-8% isn’t bad but also not great. I hope he can get that over 10 & maintain. That will go a long way to making him an even more dangerous offensive player. I think he is pretty similar player has Daniel Murphy. High average, low K, not great bb%, good 15-20 power (maybe seasons with more down road). Defense average won’t get gold gloves but won’t hurt you much either. Most likely won’t steal much more than 10-15 bases a season. To me, I personally think 6-7 years of control over a Murphy like 2nd baseman is very valuable. He could make a couple all-star games but don’t think he will be an annual all-star. He will just be a very good core player for us.
  13. Caldwell & Paguno interviewed for job today..... couldn’t be less enthusiastic. However, I get you can’t interview coaches until they are out of playoffs or until their bowls are done (at least most won’t). I’m pulling for Fitzgerald, Vangio, McDaniels as of right now
  14. No winning this one, all I can say.... thanks Mark, Joe, ARod, and rest of starters for not being cowards & playing the what if game about the fraction of a percent of serious injuries that will impact next season. Giving fans something enjoyable to watch at Lambeau unlike the preseason game some want. Thanks for having a clue! Davonte.... go get your 2+ catches 133+yards and 2 tds! Set all receiving records in GB! (Sure Kizer could get you there).
  15. People act like packers have played terrible football all season. They lost only 2 games by more than a 1 score game. Redskins & Patriots by 14. They just couldn’t finish. This isn’t a terrible team. Injuries destroyed their strongest part of defense (dline). DBs were a young JV team for most of the year but grew. Having Tramon as your starting FS after never playing there his whole career says a lot. Fackrell had 9.5 sacks (never saw that coming) but Perry per usual was out most season & Clay is old. Offensively injuries on line hurt. Cobb & Allison were out most of season throwing all those young guy into the fire. He have holes for sure but with a few moves & a good draft, we should be competitive again next year.
  16. Spot on. Makes zero sense to me the outrage of letting guys play. An injury may happen & that is always a worry but I don’t believe in benching guys week 17 with top seed sealed nor do I when you are out of playoff race. The later just sends a terrible message to team, fans, and really everyone. Brees, Big Ben, Rivers, and so on have all been eliminated like us before.... those teams didn’t bench everyone. Brees still went out there. Big Ben still went out there. Quitting is an infectious mindset. It builds losers. Telling your team that simply cause you aren’t in playoffs they need to give up and all starters must be benched is wrong mentality. Build momentum to finish. Build confidence. Let young receivers keep working with ARod to learn. Go into off-season on a good note & build on it with new coaching staff. These guys are paid an outrageous amount of money to do a job.... let them do that.
  17. Braun should never in his life play 3rd again. Even without him saying repeatly that he’s open to try just about anywhere beside 3rd. This is the major leagues. You can’t just throw guys at 1st, 3rd and so on just because.... corner OF is really the only place you can throw a guy just to play with line up. It is far easier to learn to shag a ball & throw it in (must start deep because going back on balls is a skill that takes much more work) than learning to field ball, get all your footwork right, make on target throws, do all your coverage responsibilities, and list goes on. If anyone wants to just move guys to any spot on field regardless to how awful their defense is.... maybe just watch the Orioles play defense for a few games & decide if watching that brutal of defense is worth it. There is no hiding a guy at 3rd. 1st base is involved on most plays. I never want to watch Brewers throw random guys out there
  18. Santana has good plate discipline. Really his outside zone swing & zone swing % is pretty close to that of Yelich & Broxton. All 3 live above 10% Bb% which where you love to have all your hitters. Issue with Santana & Broxton is they simple can’t make contact with the balls in & out of the zone. Yelich hits around 68 % of ball out of zone & over 80% in the zone. Santana & Broxton hit 45% ish of balls out & only 65%ish of balls in zone. Santana will always look at pitches & be able to walk. The real thing is eventually he has to be able to make contact. Otherwise he will always K 30% of the time. I’m a guy who loves guys who loves walk & make contact. Any time you put ball in play you have a chance to get hit, knock run in, or move guys over. Strike outs kill everything. Power is great as long as it doesn’t counter with awful contact%. Gamel doesn’t hurt you there. For career he is at 28% outside zone, 60% zone and only swings at 43% of pitches. he makes contact on 65% of those outside zone pitches & 90% of his zone pitches. He walks 10% & is around 20% exactally where you want a hitter. However Sogard was another high contact guy with similar swing stats. My issue with Gamel as with Sogard is they simply don’t hit ball very hard. He is a 25% hard ball hitter. He’s improved a lot on his soft contact but really he doesn’t drive ball much. That is what will keep him from being more than a 4th OF or anything more than average starter. If you don’t mind Ks, lack of contact, limited versatility & bad defense but prefer the hard contact with power potential at only corner OF. You like Santana. His star is brighter due to power, hard contact, obp, and good overall average If you like obp, limited ks, versatility, good average, more athletic guys who may not drive balls as hard or have much pop.... you like Gamel. To me he is a great fit as 4th OF but not a guy who should be starting 120+ games. He is a lefty bench bat who gives you a solid options with your line up. After watching us kill opportunities in Dodger series over & over by K after K... I like a high contact option. Aoki I think was a pretty good comp for him at the plate
  19. I've been cut??? Crappy way to find out. You had a very long and good run here but just felt at this juncture it was in the best interest of both parties to move on. By doing this in December, believe this move will aid you in finding another forum prior to March easier
  20. Braun is productive when healthy. Statistically he had a ton of “bad luck” this year. Hit ball hard but couldn’t find holes consistently. Healthy or not healthy he plays major role as a leader for this team. He is a Brewer & through & through & even with PED issue still a guy that clubhouse loves, respects, and believe in. People overlook leadership & clubhouse dynamic all time which I strongly disagree with. As a coach, outstanding team guys, leaders, and positive attitude guys are essential. So you take in production on field which is still above average plus what he brings to team & lockerroom.... there is a lot of value for him here imo. As for trading him.... we don’t know exact players or why it fell through but really, Braun is willing to be traded to what? Dodgers....maybe Angels & Giants? Not like it is easy to move him. MLB rules give him most of power now which makes it more complicated As for the actual topic, I like trade. Don’t love it or think it was a steal but solid baseball & roster construction move. Some here love Santana’s value. To me, they couldn’t find deal they liked last year for him.... this is deal they made.... I think that may say something what league values him as compared to fans. Market for high 30% K guys isn’t what it use to be in advanced metric age. Lucky for him he at least walks at a good rate to counter that a bit. Gamel is lefty with option who is solid defender on team that lives saved runs. His bat is solid & wonder if Miller Park will help power. Hits .270, walks at good rate, and doesn’t strike out much. May not be a sexy get but he’s a solid all around player who has value. To me only bad thing is by mid season we will have Zavolas hyped as a top 3 prospect in at least one ballot & will be giving Roegner run for his money as all star of the future
  21. Hard not to like what the White Sox have done over the past year + They are also in on both Harper and Machado. If they land one of those, mixed with the talent they have brought into the organization, they good be pretty dangerous team for a good amount of years
  22. Wouldn’t call it unnecessary risk at all. Those guys up stairs are way more informed than any of us arm chair GMs. If DS though he was worthy of a 40 man spot & needed to be protected.... he would have been. Fact that no team took a flier on him goes to show, that no team thought he was ready and worthy of spot at this point. Don’t handstring yourself with 40 man roster if you don’t need to. Olczak could be a good RP but right now he isn’t knocking on enough or has starred enough to need that spot
  23. I’d be all over it for 1 year prove deal. Really there is zero risk & all reward if he actually performs. Health has been a long issue but at the cost.... what does it hurt? A roster spot? If he isn’t working out you can dump for for next to nothing. Braun produces enough & his leadership in locker room has been huge for them. His babip has been really low & from watching it’s not due to him not hitting ball hard. Hasn’t found holes. Still a 1+ WAR and above average wRC+ guy. You hope he can stay more healthy & get back up 2 .290+ Got two more years, hope for best
  24. After laughing whole series at how brutal Grandal was behind plate in only real extensive look at him.... hard to want to watch him everyday. Maybe he was just off but boy he was major liability Ramos would be upgrade
  25. I think you give Taylor a long look in spring. If he is healthy, he may have a chance. I know our system was weak but many considered him above Arcia for first 2+ years until Arcia just went nuts in Biloxi and Taylor was just okay that first go. Injuries killed developed from there
