  1. He was performed at every level at a pretty young age, he lost 2014 due to injury. He is a guy who can give you coverage at all three OF spots. While not a power bat, he traditionally has hit for good average, plays real good defense, and gets on base a lot....doesn't strike out a lot. Can never have to many options who give you all of that.
  2. Why does it matter? He is constructing his team. The order means absolutely nothing. This is what other teams are putting on the table right now. Let alone, trading Lind, Lucroy, Braun etc, take extra time with more players you need to look into. He doesn't like Sardinas and wants a solid lefty bat, make the trade. Your really like Villar and it is only going to cost you Sneed...TAKE IT. You don't sit on trades...."well actually I can't consider your proposals at all right now." He is trading for guys he has a plan for already, just because they are not future All-Stars doesn't mean they are not worth getting right now. He wants to have the roster look the way he wants the team, what if he wants to keep Lucroy at end of the day? We are going to stop everything just for a Lind trade? Flores has played LF 460 games CF 114 games RF 100 games Just labeled OF 91 games 1B 50 games another versatile guy with good bat who gets on base. Shane Peterson Brewer days are all but numbered.
  3. Jefry Marte 3B 24yo Wynton Benard CF 25yo Luis Cessa SP 23 Montreal Robertson SP 25 and the guy that makes the most sense for this trade Jairo Labourt. The Brewers needed their player on 40 man to make sure they were not taken. Labourt, is 21 pitched awful in Advanced A ball and showed almost no reason why he could stick at MLB level as a role 5. Great potential though. K-Rod for Bethencourt and Labourt is a win in my eyes for sure.
  4. A trade a day keeps the doctor away.... I don't mind this regardless of the return. I am not very high on Sardinas and like Rivera better as a utility bat & defensive guy. Just think he offers more with bat, defense is pretty close. Hope we get good return, he clearly wasn't in Stearns plans for the future at all.
  5. BTW, the fact that Indians got my man Kominsky for Moss instead of us for Lind has me still pretty disappointed.
  6. Khris Davis is cheap, proven, controllable for 3-4 more years, Indians have no shortage of 1B options and High ceiling pitchers. 1B Jesus Aguilar AAA/MLB 25 - Power bat who just smokes ball, could be a 1B Davis who hits .240 with 25-35 bombs. Lower .310-.320 OBP Nellie Rodriquez AA 21 (Pretty sure same high school as Angel Salome so coach could come back!) Once again big power bat. More of a Domingo type approach, will K a lot but still take his walks. Bobby Bradley A+ 19 YES PLEASE! Kid is the stud 1st baseman we have needed since Prince. 3B Yady Diaz may not jump off the page but he appears to just hit and produce. C Frankie Mejia 20 year old catcher who will be in A+ next season, is talented, high ceiling, good pop. Kaminsky, Aiken, McKenzie, Sheffield, Hillman are all very young and unproven but have that high upside you love to bring in. I'd gladly trade Khris Davis for Bobby Bradley and Frankie Mejia......throw in one of our minor league guys to get Diaz throw in...perfect!
  7. Agreed 100%! He was also a super nice kid and a joy to watch on the mound. I know we currently have relatively deep pitching in the minors, but I don't like trading pitching as we will always need it. This trade doesn't make me happy. Glad running a baseball team revolves around not making moves because people a nice guys....Average minor league arm for an at least average MLB bat seems fair to me. He is far from even being a consensus Top 25-30 prospect in our system. He is a good guy, love the handle bars, his wife seems super sweet with a good blog, and is a solid Tyler Wagner, back end, high floor-same ceiling type prospect. Maybe he does become a solid #4 or #5 in 2-3 years but hard to see him surpassing some of the talent, much high ceiling guys above him in our now pretty deep system. If we could get MLB talent who can help us now who still has a higher ceiling to be an everyday player, that's a win in my mind.
  8. So we get a very talented, versatile player who our GM watched for 3 years and absolutely loves for a pitcher who is pretty low in pecking order in our system? Sounds good to me. I know, I know some expected a return of Correa for Cy but don't worry we will still survive this terrible trade....I promise you. I could off the top of my head name 10-15 in our system I prefer over Sneed. Not the I dislike him but overall he is highly replaceable. To get a quality major league play for him is way more that I would have expected. For someone to say they are underwhelmed with Stearns doesn't make much sense to me. For KRod we shed his whole salary & got at least one solid prospect and still don't know who the other player is yet. Then we get a versatile guy who can play SS/3B/2B/OF who appears to be ahead of Sardinas & Rivera....Perez & Herrera, and has shown signs of becoming a very helpful roster piece whether it is super utility or everyday guy.... For what scouts refer to as a fringe/average pitching prospect in Sneed... Not bad I don't think this means the end of Segura. I'd look at him at 3B 1st then super utility. What he does do is give insurgence to trade Jean or Scooter before Arcia is ready. Really there is no way I can view this a bad move since we got him nearly for free. Lopez, Hader, Houser, Wagner, T. Williams, Ponce, Kirby, D. Williams, Ortega, Mederois, Diplan, Diaz, Ventura, Hobbs......not sure how many of these guys I'd put Cy in front of.
  9. Honestly, Stearns was in no rush to trade KRod. He in all likelihood discussed trades for KRod with other teams. I trust the Brewer scouts and if they were high enough on him, I'll hold out hope for a 20 year old about to enter AA. Most kids his age are still grooming themselves in college. Pretty early to peg him as just this or that down the road. This is a kid they wanted in that system. I remember how negitive people acted when we got Barrios for ARam....6 months later he is TH's sleeper candidate to be Brewers closer in 2016. If not he very well could be a big part of the pullpen. He wasn't a top 25 prospect, limited time on mound, limited success, consider a one trick pony who probably wouldn't ever make it or impact the team..... He is showing wrong now. Point don't look at this trade and put ceilings on a 20 year old who held own in a hitters nightmare FSL. Give him some time as a Brewer before we start to label what he will be. Look at Houser, he looked like a throw in almost that wasn't suppose to pitch the way he has since the trade..... All he has done is dominate Biloxi & now AFL while an impressive MLB debut
  10. Honestly, offensively.... His scouting reads a lot like everything you read about Arcia outside of power & Sbs. High baseball IQ, great knowledge of strike zone, makes every pitcher earn there outs. High contact & hand eye coordination. Sprays ball all over the field. Extremely competitive, hard working, and dedicated to improving. Both are low strike out/ low walk guys. This season he was 19/20 in FSL and managed to still hit .260 in a pitchers league. Like Arcia due to his high IQ, natural talent, & work ethic he has been aggressively pushed. Arcia started to put it together in FSL then busted out in AA. Maybe Bethancourt will bust out as well. Not saying he is next Arcia, more of a poor mans version but potential is there. The kind of prospects we should be looking at.
  11. GCL All-Star at 18/19 we had outstanding debut in Venezuela and continued it into his rookie ball season. MWL All-Star at 19 Had a solid year at 20 in advanced A. Overall he is turning 21 in AA if they don't repeat him, making him one of the youngest players in AA. He has an advanced bat for age and like Arcia, he doesn't walk or K very much. I'm very optimistic about him. No matter the case, this is a kid Stearns and his staff really wanted and identified as someone to have in our system. He is a high contact kid like Arcia. More often than not, guys who make a lot of contact will hit for average. Moreover, for same reason Arcia doesn't walk a lot, when you have great hand eye coordination and contact skills, you are able to put anything close in play
  12. I really like the White Sox idea Fullmar, Michalezewski, and Alfaro/Zangari a couple other teams who need a catcher: Rays LHP Snell (2), 1B Gillespie (10), C Betts (12) or RHP Honeywell (3), C O'Conner (8), 1B/3B Shaffer (11) Twins RHP Berrios (2), 1B Kepler (6), LHPThorpe (14)/3B Cabbage (16) Astros- don't get much out of castro/conger--Stassi is there though Aj. Reed, Martes, Moran Rangers I talked about before Angels and Seattles system are very uninteresting
  13. Included both due to me saying I'd like us to trade for Gallo and Profar by including Peralta, Smith, or K-Rod.
  14. I am very high on Stokes as he is just an OBP monster. He reminds me of a younger version (shorter) version of Michael Reed. Good average, power potential, always on base, steals a lot of bases, can play CF not not as good defensively as guys around him, so is put in left and right, both drafted in that 4-5 range out of high school. Don't think he has the arm that Reed has but overall, similar in my mind. Burkhalter is a guy I followed very closely. His ERA is by far the worse stat to look at of his. He looked outstanding at times during the season! He just would have a great stretch followed by 1-3 bad outings then get hot, followed by 1-3 bad outings. If he can continue to reduce those bad outings a little more he can really leap. He will be 20 for over half of next season. He started terrible that 1st month pitching these 3 games April 12 - 1.2ip 6ER April 28- 3.2IP 5R 3ER May 8 - 4.1 IP 6ER (Sandwiched in there were 3 solid outings with 3G 1GS 10IP 10H 3ER 4BB 7K) Then got HOT May 13th- June 8th 6G 19IP 15H 4ER 3BB 26K Had a bad day June 14 - 3IP 4ER Got rolling again June 19-July17 6G 3GS 23.2IP 17H 4ER 3BB 23K Clunker 3 game stretch July 22-Aug 2 9.1IP 15H 13ER 5BB 8K Finished August Strong Aug 8- Aug 26 4G 2GS 15IP 9H 3ER 1BB 17K Lets just say he didn't pitch in September 2 GS 10 IP 15H 10ER 0BB 5K So in what I considered good outings: 19G 6GS 67.2IP 51H 14ER 11BB 73K...... ERA 1.87 |WHIP .923 | 6.64-1 K:BB The Bad: 9G 6GS 32.1IP 49H 42ER 11BB 20K ....11.78 ERA | 1.87 WHIP | 1.82:1 K:BB So as of now 68% of his outings are consider good 32% of his IP where bad 50% of his starts were bad 81% of his RP's were good (Above is according to my standards of a good or bad)
  15. I know Melvin has struck gold with this kind of move before with the likes of Kapler and such however, I much rather we bring in a younger 1st baseman or give Rogers a look there full-time. Huff should be nothing more than the occasional spot start, come off the bench guy. Never hurts to give a look but not expecting much.
  16. Honestly, If we are trading Lucroy to Rangers I think we need to make this more like the Houston trade & throw in someone like Will Smith to pry Joey Gallo away or to take Profar. They have a few really good OF's in their system with Mazara and Brinson that we really don't need. Tate and Matuella were draft last season and can't be traded yet. I think Ortiz has to come over, I was all over him in high school before we went Kodi instead in 1st round. Johnathon Lucroy & Will Smith for 3B Joey Gallo (1) or Profar RHP Luis Ortiz (5), LHP Yohander Mendez (10), Andrew Faulkner (12) or Brett Martin (16) and Ti'quan Forbes (20) or 1B Ronald Guzman (23) Overall Gallo, Ortiz, Martin, Forbes would be a win in my book for Lucroy and Smith. Gallo is blocked by Hamilton and Choo in the Corners and is blocked at 3B by Beltre. Profar is listed as 3rd on depth chart at 2B behind Alberto...he won't be stealing Odor's spot. They need Lucroy to make line up dangerous. They have a huge hole at catcher. 4-5 in there rotation is questionable, and the could use another proven back end guy. I personally would explore what they want for Gallo, Profar, and a low level high reward prospect (like a Forbes). I'd gladly trade Lucroy & Peralta or Lucroy & Rodriquez, or Lucroy & Smith for that package. Our 2017 fast rebuild core would be: 1B (Braun? Clint Coulter? by July, someone we trade for?) 2B J. Profar 24 SS Orlando Arcia 22 3B Joey Gallo 23 C (bring someone in) LF (Braun, Davis, or Reed...Roache, Taylor, Coulter?...Someone in a trade?) CF Maverick Phillips 23 RF Domingo Santana 24 Still have Gennett, Segura, Lind, Kh. Davis, and Braun who all could be traded by 2017 to net someone to play 1B & Catcher. For OF outside of Braun and Davis, Reed will be ready, Taylor, Coulter, Roache on door step. Peralta is expandable since he will need to get paid before we are good again and with Lopez, Hader, Jungmann, Nelson, Davies, Houser, and so on.... we can afford to let him go.
  17. Think CheezWizhed hit the nail on the head. It's great to have a bunch of 2nd-4th round picks but have a top 1-5 talent can be transcendent. If Gilbert become the elite player he is believed to be, we have an annual all-star/mvp candidate.
  18. Brewers trade with Houston still top this but won't know for sure for 3 years. Phillips will be at least a Bret Gardner and sit has a .260/.340/.390 .730 OPS range giving 20 SB's, 10-15 HRs and 50-60 RBI from the top of the order. (NOT HIS CEILING an AT LEAST) Domingo Santana I see a lot of Cory Hart in him and think he will at least hit 20-30HRs with 80-100 middle of the order RBIs. Average out to be a .260/.350/.475 .825 OPS player. Hader alone will top Newcomb. I personally think he is one of the most underrated pitchers in baseball. Hopefully AFL is opening some eyes. Newcomb as shown zero ability to be around the strike zone as of yet. Until he becomes a pitcher instead of a thrower, I don't think we are missing much with Sean. Houser......rate him where you will, all he does is throw hard and produce. Really depending on how much he starts to miss bats he could be a Jimmy Nelson 2.0 or a Wily Peralta/Jungmann 2.0. Big body, heavy power arm, ground ball machine. At worse he is a work horse out of the pen The overall trade I think is great for Braves. They have no interest in winning right now any only care about bringing in young arms to recreate their 1990s rotation. They get two pretty good ones who if pan out will be a good complement with what they already have. Angels give up a lot. Their system doesn't have much left at all but they get a younger gold-glove SS entering his offensive prime with 5 years at a good healthy salary. For the Angels an outstanding player for only 10 million a year is a relief for them....Good trade for both of them. I think that sets the bar pretty well for Lucroy. Simmons like Lucroy had a down year.
  19. Throws a little bit harder than Madbum but has a ways to go to be as crafty. Madbum is in full control of his stuff and the plate but it appears Josh is getting there. Hopefully in 3 years, when people are talking about a young talented lefty with high ceiling and a goofy arm slot, it will be "he really reminds me of a Josh Hader or Chris Sale out there." I am an absolute homer for Hader and #1 member in his fan club. I honestly think he has #1/ #2 dominant SP written all him. His rapid growth every season has been incredible. Kid was drafted barely throwing 89-90 out of high school and was more of a 19th round, lets take a hometown kid type of pick. Came into their camp, lite it up and hasn't spot becoming more dominant as well. His command is a work in progress but has been improving. I remember when Verlander was drafted and most people thought he was going to bust because he had zero command. Command can be worked out. He has a 98mph fastball that is already hard to see with his arm slot. His slider is nasty and in AFL has been his top, most dominant pitch. Really if he can just get his third pitch to be average he could be an absolute stud.
  20. I know that he was with Ben Sheets for the draft to hand in who they were picking..... Here is TH's write up http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/347697451.html Short doesn't give a lot but must have been pretty valued by staff previously and now. You don't become senior director of baseball ops at 32 if not. The fact he was a Brewer bat boy and has been part of the Brewers since he was 16 I think is something they value a lot as well. You look at CC, Sedar, and now Flannigan, they all are extremely loyal and want to be/see the Brewers succeed. Edit correction: He added the senior title in 2012, was just director of baseball operations prior to that. Here is a much better article about him after the promotion to senior director. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/181003601.html
  21. I keep Bayless next off season. He offers too much off the bench for this team. MCW was rated one of the top defensive PG's in the NBA last season if I remember right. He is long, a good rebounder, gets into passing lanes and also is a very good passer. So i disagree with a lot of you opinions about MCW. I have two issues with him.... He over dribbles causing turnovers and he shots too much. He needs to do more of what Ennis has done which is simply move the ball. He comes up the court looking to get the offense going. MCW comes down more with the mindset that he is going to make or create a play by himself which leads to over dribbling turnovers or forced bad shots. That can be taught....hopefully.
  22. All those Hader questions and upset fans and none of them were the ones I sent! #Hadernation #Uproar
  23. List: 1. Orlando Arcia, ss 2. Jorge Lopez, rhp 3. Trent Clark, of 4. Brett Phillips, of 5. Gilbert Lara, ss 6. Kodi Medeiros, lhp 7. Tyrone Taylor, of 8. Clint Coulter, of 9. Cody Ponce, rhp 10. Devin Williams, rhp I think there are a few surprises. Brett Phillips is consider by almost all outlets AT WORSE a Top 50 prospect in MILB. Many in the 20-40 range. Mid-Season BA had Phillips at #21. So either Lopez and Clark are now considered top 20-30 prospects in MILB or Maverick stock completely dropped out after being traded....with the way he performed I don't see that. Ponce I see, I have him in the teens now but expected him to rocket up this season. I honestly think there is very little chance he is not in AA by June/July. Honestly, I just give up on all the Hader haters out there. I don't know how much more dominate a pitcher needs to be. I'm not talking Brett Suter, 100% command guy not much stuff type. I am talking about a 96-98 mph lefty with some nasty off-speed pitches who rakes up K's like they are nothing and almost never has an opposing batting average over .200. Only thing that comes and goes a little bit too much is his command. With that said his walk totals aren't troubling enough not to consider him front end. He is same age a Ponce (21) except he has already dominated AA, at 20 he was only good enough to be California League Pitcher of the year. If they don't like his arm slot....ask Sale and MadBum how it has worked for them. Maybe it is the hair....DeGrom shows how the swagger of the flow works. The don't like his secondary stuff... that can be debated. In no way do I think at this point Kodi or Devin should be ranked above him. This will be a big year for Tyrone Taylor and Coulter. My guess is both will be in AA. Taylor needs to come out hitting like a man on fire otherwise he will really drop of the radar. Coulter needs to prove it was merely the struggles of being in BC that hurt him. Much like a pitcher in Colorado Springs.
  24. The Big 3 In BC Rotation (Ponce, Williams, Mederios) - Ponce will be in AA by June. He is advanced. Sitting 96-98 with good off-speed stuff, he is a bulldog who is intemidating and attacks you. Brewers are extremely high on him and he will really leap forward pitching in a place where most pitchers naturally dominate more than their skill level. All he needs is the Ks to start coming. - Williams has improved every season. This is his 3rd year and he just seems as though he is on the cusp of breaking out. Reminds me of Lopez entering BC in that he has all the ability but just hasn't put it all together yet...Lopez took first step in BC similar to the step Williams took last year. - Mederois Not trying to start the usual battle to the death Kodi debate but any way you shape it, he was 18 last year, 3 years younger than average, and still more than held his own. He NEVER ONCE gave up a homerun last season which is sensational for a 18 year old in A ball. At times he was unhittable and dominant. Other times he was very pedestrian. For season, statistically, he had a very encouraging season. Now he will be in a pitcher heaven and will need to show he is learning to PITCH nasty....Not just throw. I think even Thecrew07 will like him if he is able to start doing that. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Clint Coulter He broke out once, then he was force to endure a whole season of power hitter torture. Only hitters who excel in BC are often line drive to slap hitters. If you have any lift at all to your swing, your season will be tough. That dense, heavy air, wind, and etc is not a good situation. If you think about it, In April to Mid May prior to the climate change and the air becoming very dense...he absolutely destroyed the ball. In Biloxi I am expextiong a .280 20+ HR 80+ RBI with an OPS sitting in the .850+ range. I drank the jug of Coulter + Biloxi Kool-Aid prior to writing this. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dustin Houle HOLY MOLY ME OH MY! HE IS HEALTHY! Long road from age 17 to now to really have a season like he did this past season. I think he can become a legit catching prospect and will actually start in AA next year. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "The Tidal Wave" (Harrison, Gatewood, Lara, Clark, Orimoloye, Diplan) Many more I wanted to include however I will stick to the 5 who all have ceilings to be #1 prospect. -Harrison after 2-3 week adjustment to Helena, the last month prior to injury just had my jaw to the floor drooling! (By the way he was just starting to scratch the surface) -Orimoloye....Did you follow him in Arizona? Nuff Said.....by the way, he is also just scratching the surface! -Lara ...ball absolutely flies off his bat, his arm is rediculous across the infield, he has the hit tool, he is a heck of an athlete, all the tools are their for him to become the star who was signed for 3.2 million at 16. Right now, over matched, struggled mentally like many young kids. Once he got cold, wasn't strong enough mentally to snap out of it. Still Brewers pushed him up to Helena. - Clark....He is just a professional baseball player in every aspect you could want. He is just all around good and arguably the hardest worker who never stops hustling. - Gatewood...In my opinion he took a big leap this year. He looked lost as could be in Arizona. Still they pushed him to Wisconsin where he actually was starting to turn it on before his demotion. Went to Helena, mashed double after double after double, came back up to Wisconsin and was more comfortable. Should be good to explode like Coulter did the 2nd time around. -Diplan.....Did I really just say he could be a top prospect? Yes I did and I think there are plenty of scouts who are also very high on the young man. I said after the trade, he was going to be the centerpiece and the x-factor of the deal. He impressed in his first year and I look forward to see the him step up as the Ace in Wisconsin ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Colorado Springs Rotation (Lopez, Hader, Houser) Hader- He wil continue since dominance of minor league baseball on his way to becoming Chris Sale 2.0 with DeGrom 2.0 Flow He is really good, if his command is on, how do you even touch him? Best way to survive in Colorado is to simply not even allow opposing team to hit the ball. Lopez - I wis Garza would just be traded so he is opening day #5 but that is a slim chance. I think he very well could be a similar MLB to Yo. Houser- Honestly, I thought he was more of your big body Peralta/Jungmann groundball power arm pitcher who doesn't get many Ks but I am starting to see more Jimmy Nelson in him. Biggest difference is at 22 Nelson had just figured things out in Wisconsin and was about to start his dominance at BC. Houser at 22 is knocking on MLB doors. Both 2nd round picks that had been written off a bit. No way Houser is as low as some list have him out there. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Franly Mallen- Humbly was held back in DSL to start year and did it ever pay off. He was a totally different player offensively and defensively moved to a position better for him. Promoted all the way up to Helena and was good in his short sample. Interesting to see if he starts in Wisconsin or repeats Helena. Miguel Diaz- He is healthy. He was rocketing up top prospects list after a small showing in Arizona 2 years ago based purely on his stuff. Diplan/Diaz will be an exciting duo to watch in Wisconsin. Neuhaus- Honestly I would repeat him. He'd still be below league average in age and has shown real signs of life at times. He is a good glove caliber 2B. His offense projects very nice there as well. I would start him with that loaded group, let him be a leader, build confidence, and really let his bat get going. BC is hard on hitters, no need to rush a young hitter to go through that struggle be they are ready. Tyrone Perry or David Denson I don't know which one but one of them needs to step up and breakout as a true 1b prospect. Denson has had us waiting for awhile now. Perry's weight is very concerning to me but his overall offensive potential is not. Joangtel Segovia- When all a guy does is hit .400.....he is clearly a guy who has potential to break out. George Iskerderian- He will start in BC in my mind and start to establish himself as a MLB prospect. I think he is very talent player and really could rise. Sthervin Matos You know, he can go off a any given moment. He is another guy we have been waiting for but just hasn't gotten over that hump. Top 10 Risers 1. Ponce 2. Coulter 3. Diplan 4. Houser 5. Harrison 6. Orimoloye 7. D. Williams 8. Gatewood 9. Iskerderian 10. M. Diaz
  25. The commissioner was on hand (article) as the Nationals announced this will be their last spring training in Melbourne at Space Coast. The Brewers are only tied with the Manatees through 2016, but as the article notes, no one knows where the franchise will play in 2017 and beyond. Wouldn't be sad to see Brewers move on. Between being death to hitters and all the rain outs every year.
