  1. Virginia had a good year. Won the league. Had a COVID test but sure seem eligible still at the moment (though who knows?). Duke never got rolling. K was hesitant (for generally good reasons) about even playing, no home-court and a lot of Freshmen in weird circumstances hurt some teams. Weird year. As for the Badgers, a lot of these guys may be back. This season doesn't count eligibility-wise. They just don't have a pro. That's it, really. There's enough there to keep them in games, but Trice is the only one comfortable late clock, and he's just undersized. Makes it tough when the B1G is loaded with quick, athletic guards (and swing men who aren't lost on a ball-screen switch) who are 6'5". They have to move the ball and make open looks to win, and that's a recipe for inconsistency. I think they get pretty easy to defend in the halfcourt when they're in pick-and-roll, largely because neither Potter nor Reuvers have a quick release. Davis needs to be a star for them to be good. But, sure, they can win a game or two in the tournament. I'm not afraid of any non-B1G team not named Baylor or Gonzaga. If the Badgers are in the 7-10 game with, say OK St or really any Big 12 or SEC team, I'd give them decent odds at Sweet 16. Put it this way, I'd take the over on .5 wins. Faint praise, I know, but it'll keep you invested through the weekend, at least...
  2. CBS reporter Matt Norlander has Marquette definitely sticking with Wojo. I think that's the right call at this point. Next year will tell the tale.
  3. Agree with this. I think just put a time limit on it. If you can't tell after 1 minute, call on floor. And hook and hold reviews are always atrocious.
  4. Better shooting. Honestly, it might be better to fall to a 10 than stick on the 8 line, if that's where they are.
  5. Wardle's a good name. Bradley's a tough place to win, and they've had some talent recently. I guess if I'm Marquette, though, the question is: who's better than Wojo? Gregg Marshall has big baggage. Maybe Leon Rice at Boise? Casey Alexander from Belmont? Richie P is probably toast at Minnesota....I wouldn't be making a lateral move amidst all this uncertainty. I'd stand pat unless you can bring in either a real young, rising star or maybe Archie Miller, who could probably benefit from a scene change at this point.
  6. The Big East should be a really attractive landing spot for coaches. You'll be the highest priority on campus athletics-wise, play against a real blue blood in Villanova, and be in a league that's going to regularly send half its teams to tge tourney. Given the talent in Milwaukee and Chicago, I'd say Wojo has underachieved. Still, are there quality candidates out there? Porter Moser from Loyola might be a fit, but I can see MU giving Wojo another year and hoping for a more traditional carousel in 2022 should that not work out.
  7. It's hard to look at how bad this team has shot the ball over the course of the last month and feel much differently. The team is so bad right now, that it's hard to believe they're the same team that faced Loyola and that non-conference schedule earlier this season. ...at least the end of the Illinois game showed signs of life, but it's been tough sledding as a fan. Agree. Offense is stagnant; if they don't hit shots, they have nothing. Reuvers has been replaced by Charles Thomas (actually, that's unfair to Charles Thomas). It's bad. Here's what's giving me hope: 1) 3 pt. shooting is essentially random. They can beat anyone if they even shoot it pretty well. 2) More important: The B1G is so good (and SO well-scouted), I'm hopeful you can have more luck offensively against less-prepared teams. 3) They may start 5 30-year-olds next year, and I'm only slightly exaggerating.
  8. YES! JUST give me a TRUE sports package (+TNT and TBS for NBA/baseball and NCAAs)...and local over the air networks. Why can't this be done for $50 or less? It's like there is this huge gap between going cheap $25-$30 per month where you don't get what you want, and then there is going hyper-deluxe for $125-$200 per month where you get a ridiculous amount of channels and content that you don't want. It shouldn't be that hard. Yeah, this is a great observation. Especially since Discovery (who owns a good number of channels, I think) has just entered the streaming game too. It is coming to a point where there's just going to be too many individual streaming services, and then the money will be on packaging them or simply acquiring a lot of rights. Netflix having a robust production arm gives them a headstart. Personally, I wonder how far we are from PayPerView sports.
  9. If UW, MIN, or PUR are on the 8 or 9 line opposite Gonzaga it will be a very tempting upset pick. Hopefully UW will win a game or two and stay away from that line. I'm hoping for a 7 seed opposite Houston as the 2 seed... I think lots of folks are skeptical of Gonzaga, but, man. They are SO much better than UW, MIN, or PUR. I'd take them at -10 or -12, I think.
  10. My overly simple explanation: there are no pros. Davis may get there, but this is a roster of good college players. That used to be okay (and sometimes could be an advantage), but today's game makes the UW style harder. More posessions, freedom of movement, emphasis on athleticism, and there are a lot of 6' 10" guys who can shoot (many of whom are WAY quicker and mor springy than Reuvers and Potter). UW's philosophy keeps them competitive, but they really need to develop pros ala Kaminsky, and even Dekker, Leuer, etc. Devin Harris isn't walking through that door anytime soon, and, while I think Gard's done a good job and this year is just too hard to judge on any level, I do worry a bit about lack of improvement during his tenure.
  11. Urias needs to play everyday, or close to it. He has a good approach and loads pf potential. Maybe he doesn't fulfill it, but this is a guy that needs to be on the field. Last year should not have changed whatever evaluation of him inspired the trade im the first place.
  12. The Dish and Sinclair thing is underrated. It isn't just the streaming services. I don't want to sound like a paranoiac about this, but there's clearly a mutual benefit to both Sinclair and cable companies to make RSNs an exclusive property, especially in the Midwest (and since it owns broadcast rights to Cardinals, Royals, Bucks, Wolves, Wild, Blues, Brewers, Twins, and some MLS clubs as well, and I may be missing some teams there too). They know that. I'm sure they're discussing it. That's another way that the blackout rules stink. They give tons of power to the RSNs. I hope the Brewers got a big bump financially. If Sinclair is getting a lot more carriage fees by keeping their product exclusively cable, then this makes sense to me, assuming they pass that along to the Brewers. I don't like it, but I'm comforted by the fact that live sports viewing is going to change again before I can sneeze. Temporary issue.
  13. Could the Brewers negotiate with NBC Sports Chicago? Is that crazy? They have two channels that come with cable plans in the Milwaukee metro and now have only the White Sox to fill those games. Obviously depends on what NBC wants to do (and Comcast isn't much better than Sinclair), but they at least seem to be really focused on the streaming platforms with Peacock and other services. That network solves the issue of making sure the traditional audience gets a cable channel and offers options for streamers, provided you can get some of the more statewide providers to carry those channels, which I'd imagine would be a fairly easy deal. I'm not expecting anything other than a Sinclair contract at the end of this, but Sinclair has really been bad for the Twins and Cardinals and Royals too, I think, and Marquee has been dropped by a lot of the streamers. Definitely want to avoid anything long-term with them. Long-term, I don't think this model can hold much longer...it's probably something that comes up in the CBA, right? I know the Brewers are rightfully wary about leaving out older fans, but signing with, say, Hulu, were that possible, would give you a more national audience, and there's got to be offsetting revenue opportunity there. The chance to be nationally accessible nightly, with a product on a better growth curve. Side question: are the announcers and TV personalities paid by Sinclair? Curious about the externalities involved in shifting to a different network...
  14. This is my favorite part about DS. He doesn't get boxed in to a philosophy. Very flexible in terms of acquisitions. Helps the team regardless of whether it fits some sort of personal theory of roster construction. Maybe that sounds easy, but I think it's incredibly rare and a BIG part of the Brewers sustained success under his regime.
  15. Yup. And this really goes for the whole B1G. Just a ridiculous league. And low-possession games for Wisconsin means you're just going to drop a few here and there. My concern: no pros. Trice is good. Becoming a real go-to. But they don't have anyone on the level of Marcus Carr, for example. They are seriously disciplined and tough, and they really defend, but that lack of a big-time talent means they just need to shoot well to win, and there's a lot of randomness there.
  16. Happens when you play lots of close games in a tough league. They'll be fine.
  17. What a win. Amazed how many just pure team wins Wisconsin gets. Reuvers impacts the game even when he doesn't score. MSU had some turnovers, but they played well too...hit tough shots. Really high-level basketball game. Best I've seen Bucky look since 15, I think.
  18. Agree with all the other posters who would pay 5-10 extra for just FSWI. Inthink there are plenty of people like that out there. Shows a big problem with the business model when when your audience wants the product, but you can't sell it to them because you want to leverage other content onto them.
  19. Yeah, have to think this is all coming to a head soon. I live in Iowa, which is claimed by 6 (!) teams as being "in-market." You cannot get FS Wisconsin except through a DirecTV add-on. It's nuts. And even folks with cable are losing their RSNs because of reall high subscriber fees. Baseball is regional sport, but it' a very nationalized telecom economy, and something will have to give here, if not this year, then I have to think next. I love the Brewers, but I'm not paying an extra 50/month for them when MLB audio is 20/yr. Teams owning their own content is going to happen, I would think.
  20. In his lone full season he posted a 111 wRC+ & 1.6 WAR. If he can approximate those numbers in 2021 it would be perfectly cromulent production for 1.4 million dollars. Sure, you could look at it that way. Maybe not the most accurate if you want to make the postseason though. We aren't going to get very far if we are loading up the roster with guys 'worth' their salary, but are 1.5 WAR (or worse) players and absolutely miserable defensively. I don't think Jack thinks the price is bad, but that the player isn't really that good...especially at 500+ ABs. You could make the most +value roster in MLB and win 60 games...is that what we want? Probably not. I get not being excited about Vogelbach, but it makes perfect sense, and the reality is Yelich and Hiura + pitching depth is the whole plan for 2021. If this team makes the playoffs, it'll be because those guys hit and the pitching locked it down. Might as well hope for over-performance on buy-low guys, especially given the financial uncertainty. I wish the budget and the farm were in better shape too, but I think the kinds of tender moves we're seeing make a lot of sense. My evaluation of the offseason is going to be about how this team handles Hader. It's not an easy choice, but everything else is about low-risk, high-reward moves until we see if we can find a buyer on him.
  21. Yeah, that's a game that makes a series classic, especially if it goes 7. Happy for Phillips! Rays are fun.
  22. Morton is going to have something to say about that series. I get the sense the Rays just like drama.
  23. Agree. Grass is greener, I suppose.
  24. Yeah, the ALCS has a ton of drama. Bummed the Rays lost a bit but also glad for more baseball. I guess I'm thinking we just thought Choi was expendable and Aguilar/Thames were going to be good enough. Wanting Choi is probably big-time hindsight, but I remember him hitting an awesome GS against Arietta in Philly, I think? And driving in the winning run on Opening Day in SD that year.
  25. Alright. Who did we get for Choi? Or did we just have to release him for overcrowding? Man. 1B WHOASOLVVD.
