  1. Agree with this. Probably needs to focus on three pitches as a reliever, see which is working on a given day.
  2. I might give Williams the 9th no matter what. He needs to get into a routine a bit here. Let's hope it is with at least a 4-run lead.
  3. Does it seem weird to anyone that Miller comes in down 3? That's a pretty low leverage spot, and he was in the 1-0 game two days ago too...maybe I'm still giving him too much credit...
  4. That is just bad D. Nothing to do with the position switch. Should be able to field a ground ball.
  5. Somehow Molina’s second infield hit of the season. One shy of tying Garcia (and five others) as the league leader! Can't fake baseball. Haha. That is great.
  6. Has anyone figured out the threshold for when Gameday says "sharply"? I'm guessing 100 mph...
  7. I can see that point, certainly. You could argue Knebel was a good risk. I just think the uncertainty bars were bigger around him than some. Plus, it's possible DS saw Topa as a way to save some money by replicating something like Knebel. Not saying it was right, just that it was defensible given all the variables. The part I disagree with is the Jimmy Nelson example. I don't think it's the same. For one, COVID adds extra uncertainty and financial pressure. Would you trade Wong for Knebel? I wouldn't; some might. The point is, that's what it comes down to for me. For another, I think, even today, starters are different and more valuable than one-inning relievers (Knebel is not and will likely not be a Hader/Miller/Iglesias type who can pitch more than 1 regularly) and maybe justify some extra risk. Given what the team knew at the time, I don't think the process was flawed. This feels like a "reasonable people can disagree" over the right move situation to me. Put it this way: Should Knebel return to something like his old self (still to be seen), the ease with which people will second guess will not accurately reflect the decision at the time. That's not to say it won't have been the wrong call. Just that the team's reasonable guess turned out badly.
  8. This is going to be an easy one to revisit, but I think it says more about the structural inequalities in baseball than player evaluation. Knebel was gonna get paid in arb. And, with BP volatility and his injury history, there was just too big a chance it would've been 5+ mil down the drain. The Dodgers can take that risk easy. We can't. Sucks. But the potential non-tender makes sense even if Knebel is an all-star this year. Getting something was the best DS was ever gonna do.
  9. I mean, off day helps, I guess. And maybe there's a PPD Saturday. But I'd make a move sooner than later. Wouldn't push it since (wow), they'll need Wong's offense.
  10. At least today felt...competitive? Wainwright was on the ropes a lot and got bailed out by good D and batted ball luck. Brewers had the better of the contact. Offense deserved more than 1. It hurts in the context of their struggles, but I did see some positives today, especially in the early innings. Urias got robbed of a double, Cain smoked two, and even Big Dan hit that laser in the ninth that Eddman made a good play on. Stinks to have some of the best contact of the year get wasted, but that's baseball, I guess.
  11. I mean, Yardley gave up two hits on good pieces of hitting and then got a weak ground ball that should've been a FC. He's not a shut down reliever. He went through the meat of the order and should've put up a zero. Genuine question: when should these guys be allowed to pitch? Someone has to get outs in that spot. No one in this BP is going to be trusted to hold a one-run lead in the 7th if Hader/Williams are not rested and/or stretched out. It's April. You have to see what you have. You were always likely to need more than a run today. You didn't get it because of bad luck and some poor situational hitting. I don't really think CC had a lot of good options. Was this optimal? I don't know. But it's like the loss today is some 5th percentile outcome that could have been avoided with basic competence. I'd guess our win prob was never above 60 or so. You'll lose those games A LOT.
  12. Molina hit an oppo single, Carlsen went oppo double, and then IBB to Williams. Arenado hit one out. Sometimes, guys get hits. Rasmussen has to get out in these spots at some point. You can't use Hader there. Maybe I'd have left Burnes in. Okay. But Yardley did his job. Rasmussen didn't. You were going to have to get 6 outs with guys not named Suter, Williams, or Hader today. They couldn't. That's not really a managerial issue for me.
  13. Day off tomorrow against your main division rival. 86 EASY pitches from Burnes. You at least keep Burnes in for another 15 pitches. Sure. I probably would've let Burnes start the 7th too. But Robertson's mistake cost them more than the pitching did. I think, at least for now, I know this about the Brewers. If Hader and Williams aren't coming off a rest day, they're going to need 4-5 runs more often than not. Our pitchers aren't asked to get 21 outs very often. That's the organizational philosophy here. These BP guys are going to have to get outs, especially in April when everyone is just pitching into themselves after two years of a funky body clock. This kind of loss comes with the territory for me. If it's still happening in May and June and beyond, well, then it's clear the personnel choices in the BP didn't work, and that's on roster construction, absolutely.
  14. I don't know. Couns was going to get one from Hader max. And you can't push a still-finding-it Williams after 22 pitches yesterday. I never thought we'd win 1-0. Bad BP timing, and the Cards made some big defensive plays. Plus, Arenado is good Chalking this one up to: it's April.
  15. Ha! I remember adding or drafting Odubel Herrera all the time in fantasy because of how amazing he was against the Brewers.
  16. Goldschmidt getting a day off. Will take it. Really don't want to see another domonant Wainwright performance against the Crew. Here's hoping.
  17. Yeah, interested to see if they postpone at some point soon given a great forecast for tomorrow's off day. EDIT: Saturday's forecast looks really bad, so guessing there's at least one PPD. We'll see.
