  1. Yelich is camping in Schildt's head. I get that this is a near must-win for STL, but burning a lefty when you have Shaw and Moose also in the lineup in the 5th inning of a tie game is...weird. With Cain aboard I get it. But that looks like a fear move to me...
  2. Haha. By one more I meant inning, but I guess the Cardinals insist on throwing lefties at Yelich.
  3. Said this in the game thread but my read is you celebrate. It is a big deal to make even a one-game playoff format. Plis, we are in STL. Plus we have a day off to reset. Plus I think these guys can celebrate and still know the real goal. I hope they give us a reason to debate this tonight. Also, the 5 pitchers the Cubs will face: Nova, Williams, Mikolas, Wainwright, Flaherty, at least if all holds. If they end up winning, they will have earned it.
  4. Got it. I mean, the basic principle is that any inning for a pitcher is equal to like 1.5 games for a player, right? If a pitcher throws a perfect nine innings that is 27 PAs, or about what a player would get in 6 games or so. Am I getting it? Just want to be sure because I find this way of thinking about it useful and hadn't thought in these terms before. Edited to remove funky quote formatting.
  5. Think of it by PA. A pitcher is 50% of every PA they pitch. If a guy throws 200 innings and averages say, 4 PA/inning that's 800 PA's in a season. I do have one question, though: isn't it better to average 3PA an inning and only get 600 PA? Pitchers want to reduce opposing PA right? I really like thinking of it in these terms, but that part confuses me...
  6. True enough on Yuni B and Kotsay (though if we are talking roster strength overall, the decision to start him doesn't seem as relevant), but Yuni produced some big runs in the playoffs, and I still would take Gomez, Yuni B, and Lucroy over the current bottom of the order. It is close, for sure, but that is me. Offense better in 2011. Starting pitching better in 2011. Bullpen better in 2018. Defense pretty dependent on lineups. Probably give the edge to 2018. Again, close call. I think both teams are equally fun FWIW, and I am probably enjoying this group a bit more!
  7. I think 2011 was loaded. That team had no weak points. They just ran into a loaded, blazing hot Cardinal offense. And I think the new, bullpen-heavy way of thinking may have helped the Crew in that series. Carlos Gomez (my favorite all-time Brewer) scorching around third is the moment to which I compare all Brewers happiness. I hope the 2018 team provides a new benchmark.
  8. I am just going to say it: If we win this division it will feel like a revolution, and I honestly will not get too down about anything that happens in the playoffs. Beating out the Cubs over 162 would make this my favorite Brewers season. Of course, I hope the players get much greedier. And setting aside the division for a moment, watching the Brewers soak Busch stadium with champagne and Miller High Life tonight (and yeah, I think with the off day tomorrow they should go crazy if they win--it is baseball and those opportunities just don't come around often enough to skip one) would help exorcise 2011.
  9. I said I would really start to believe if it got within a game... ....the only downside here, if the Pirates hang on, is that now I have to be nervous for 3.t hours tomorrow too.
  10. Does JJ also maybe need work? He hasn't pitched in a while ... I leave Soria out there I think... MVP!
  11. Two rights don't make a Wong. Haha. I needed the levity there. That and Braun. 6 outs. Go get 'em!
  12. Yeah. You don't trust Woody for a second inning against the top of the order fine. You want Orlando to play D fine. But he doesn't have to hit. I am thinkong maybe CC wants the pitcher in Perez's spot so he can pinch hit Grandy or Santana?
  13. Yeah, the BP availability was always going to be tough tonight. This could be wild both ways. Whoever said management doesn't trust Chase looks to be right. I just think someone is going to have to throw 2 scoreless out of the pen.
