  1. Be awesome to take the series today and guarantee at least a .500 road trip. I think Woodruff will find it at some point, and it would make sense for it to start today given he's finally been given some consistency in terms of knowing he'll start.
  2. It's Colorado, of course, but Saladino looked like a guy who could be a solid MLB contributor for the year, so that was nice to see. I do hope eventually we settle into to someone getting the bulk of starts at 2B. This different guy every day thing has to be tough on everyone.
  3. Or was really trying not to overthrow? Pitch count probably too high to get excited about any kind of milestone, but impressive start so far nonetheless. Hope he gets through six.
  4. Hope Chase is okay. May not get a start until Arizona. He has had bad luck with illnesss this yearr. I actually kind of like Aguilar at third once and in CO. Get his bat in there. If third base defense costs you a game in place where the ball flies and OF speed is probably the most important defensive factor, so be it. I mean, it might happen, but risk worth taking once IMO.
  5. I certainly get the Villar frustration, but the Villar hate is hard to grasp. I would love to see the guy just start for like two weeks straight in the same spot in the order and see what happens. At the very least, give JV the dominant side of the platoon with Perez.
  6. If all these guys heat up, can we change the thread title to "Offensive WHOA SOLVDD"? Like maybe we set a benchmark for team OPS+, and once we hit, bam! New thread title.
  7. 21-16 after 37 games. Run differential is -3. 10-9 at home. 11-7 on the road. I think this team is better than they've played, and they're still 5 over. Hard to complain about that. Plus, Colorado will wake up the bats!
  8. I know 2 Ks, but Villar has had some good ABs today. Thought Pina's 15 pitch K might help him turn it around, but he's really struggling.
  9. This, this, this. Having a Franklin/Sogard type on the roster is no big deal. Having that player start for a week is bad, especially when there are better options available. Villar just is a better option, especially as a bottom of the order hitter with an OBP around .330.
  10. If the plan is to go with Villar most of the time, fine. Maybe they'd rather Orf keep getting regular ABs for a potential call-up later? That said, startinf Franklin and hitting him sixth seems a little nutty. This kind of player isn't horrible as a 25th man, but 4 starts in a row for these types is just odd. I am struggling to grasp the logic...
  11. Yes. I think Santana has put together much better ABs, and I'll live with the Ks (frustrating as they are with runner and 3rd and less than 2 outs). I almost think our best lineup at this point doesn't feature Braun, but that's contingent upon Aguilar being a beast. Of course, that is a discussion for another thread... Bandy was so hot in April last year and then just fell off a cliff. I agree that MI is a bigger concern, but I wish the team had more inspiring options in the event Pina's regression sticks. Bethancourt is the guy I'd give ABs to, but it is probably best to wait another few weeks at least.
  12. Yeah, I do think the good/bad team stuff is overrated. It's going to even out long term. No way they play .940 ball against bad teams, but i think they'll do better than .330 against good ones too. I think a big part of baseball is weathering stretches where you play poorly. Just absolutely rolling against bad teams has allowed this team to be 20-15 despite not playing very well overall, especially on offense.
  13. When they traded Maldy for Bandy wasn't the whole idea that Jett could hit? Baseball is weird sometimes, especially when dealing with guys who were basically backup catchers at the time. Feel bad for Vogt. No doubt his bat would have helped. Hoping for good news today but not especially optimistic.
  14. This team is fine in the big picture, but being one hit by Chad Kuhl is depressing. My biggest concerns right now are Anderson and the bottom of the order. I think Chase will be alright, but there are some reasons to worry. We may have to play roster roulette to try and solve the bottom of the order problem, but I am ready for that process to begin. Maybe not with Pina quite yet, but certainly with the 2B position. After today, 14-1 against sub .500 teams and 6-14 against winning teams. I expect both sides of that will even out, especially since the Cubs are responsible for 7 of those losses. Even playing around .500 in May means this team is okay, and pitching help is on the way.
  15. Pirates fans must hate Arcia. He's made great defensive plays to end three Brewer victories over their team.
  16. I was thinking something along these lines. I would scoring efficiency would involve run expectancy. Take run expectancy and compare to runs scored, and you get a sense for efficiency, though luck would play a big role there too. Anyone know where to find team run expectancy?
  17. And we get a Sogard start at short because it's always good to start the guy you pinch hit for late. Really, not trying to complain about the lineup, but I do not understand the need to start Sogard more than once a week, let alone back-to-back nights, let alone at SS. I hope he goes 4-4 or something and makes me eat my words, but unless Arcia is hurt, there is no need for this. I really want to understand, but I cannot think of any explanation that doesn't include way overvaluing the lefty platoon advantage...
  18. Cerveceros jerseys? I think Perez gets the start at 2B today. Great numbers career v. Taillon. I will guess: Cain Yelich Braun 1B Shaw Santana Perez Pina Arcia Chacin Go Crew!
  19. Nervous about the rotator cuff too, but found it odd how direct the team's quotes were. Not "you never know, but we hope it is only one start" or "one start for now and then we'll see" but pretty much just "we're going to skip one start, and he'll be fine." Maybe I am reading too much into it, but it seems odd to set expectations at one missed start if you think there is even a chance he'll miss more.
  20. I think there are good thoughts on both sides. There is no question Hader would be more valuable as a TOR arm, but of course there is no guarantee he becomes that. How much is the team willing to risk to find out? For me, having him doing what he is doing now is best for right now, for THIS year. Maybe he gets a shot as a starter in 2019. Personally, last night was so awesome that it makes me want to just enjoy this. There is no point thinking about what could be because it still might. What we have now is a guy everyone in baseball is talking about. It is so cool and amazing to watch. I am going to enjoy every pitch Hader throws this year.
  21. Still hoping we lose a middle infielder and keep Phillips, but I'm not counting on it. I suppose the ABs just aren't going to be there for the guy at this point anyway, so I won't get too worked up about it.
  22. Winning March. Winning April. Winning May starts tonight. Josh Hader is being mentioned alongside Randy Johnson this morning. And he deserves it. Amazing.
