  1. beekay414 said: Luc alone can get Devers and Kopech. Have you seen this market lately? It's insane. [laughing] No kidding. That is what I proposed. Sorry if I wasn't clear but the two proposals from Boston and Cleveland were for Lucroy only.
  2. Deevers, Kopech & Raudes from Boston Or Frazier, Mejia & McKenzie from Cleveland I would take the Boston offer and then hope to get one of Mejia or McKenzie from Cleveland in a Will Smith trade.
  3. Naquin doesn't seem like the kind of return Stearns is looking for. He seems more like someone Melvin would have targeted. He always wanted guys who could contribute at the ML level right away. Think Kevin Mench. (shudder)
  4. Didn't see this before. In Jon Heyman's article today he mentions again the Brewers refusal of the Mets offer of d'Arnaud. Except he has a quote from someone in the Brewers "weve been offered better Catchers". Has to be Mejia right?
  5. "Significant piece" really makes it sound like a single previously untouchable player, has been offered. As someone said earlier, to me that means a top 10-15 prospect has been offered (alone or in a package). Of the teams rumored to be interested that have a top 15 player that would mean: Bregman (1)- Astros Moncada (2) - Red Sox Swanson (5) - Braves Benintendi (7) - Red Sox Gallo (15) - Rangers It also could mean these but definitely would be part of a package: Rosario (18) - Mets Frazier (24) - Indians Deevers (25) - Red Sox again!
  6. I doubt the Red Sox would trade Moncada but Dombrowski being who he is, it is not out of the question (and I myself mentioned the Red Sox swopping in as a possibility/hope yesterday). Question is: Would you do a Lucroy for Moncada straight up trade if it came to that? I would try to add a couple Rookie level arms also but really not sure how hard I would push that. If the Brewers are saying this I feel like last nights game was Lucroy's last he plays as a Brewer. We may even see a mid-game farewell today.
  7. I doubt the Red Sox would trade Moncada but Dombrowski being who he is, it is not out of the question (and I myself mentioned the Red Sox swopping in as a possibility/hope yesterday). 8. With a day game today it wouldn't surprise me to see Lucroy get the day off (maybe Braun too) which is really going to throw Twitter into a spasm of rumors in a couple of hours.
  9. Not to hijack or change the subject but a better question maybe how many new players will be added to the recently updated top 30 list. As for the top 100 I will say Vegas would put the line at 1.5. 1 is a given and two is likely but not assured. I will go with 2. As for the Brewers top 30, I will say that by August 2nd we will have 5 new players on the list.
  10. Sounds like Mets are disgruntled because they can't/won't pony up for Lucroy and/or Jeffress like other teams have indicated. I have a feeling Dombrowski is going to swoop in and blow Stearns away with an offer. Moncada?!?!
  11. It depends on the teams whether it is a ridiculous asking price or not. If a teams #1 prospect is an overall top 10-15 prospect, yeah that probably is too much. Jeffress is not bringing back a Moncada, Giolito, Bregman or Gallo. A top 15-30 prospect is a thinker. A 30-60 is the sweet spot and a lead prospect below 60 is likely selling low in Stearns eyes. I think this comment refers to the Mets. Stearns probably has asked for Rosario which would be quite a return and the Mets are barking to Duquette about it.
  12. Gallo got called up by the Rangers today. Not sure if that makes it more or less likely he is part of a trade. Seems less likely to me.
  13. The Yankees just got 2 top 100 players (one top 25) and two other players for a 10 week rental of Chapman. At best Chapman is a player who will get in 1/2 the games left (and that would be overusing him) while Lucroy will start in 90-95% of the remaining games, plus the entire year of 2017. Lucroy is a top five Catcher. Champman is really good and maybe you can argue top 5 reliever but there are an awful lot of good relievers in the league. Not very many good all around catchers. The point? Lucroy should and will bring back a big return with or without paring a reliever with him. The fact that the Yankees just got the Cubs #1 prospect gives Stearns more ammunition to demand Frazier or Zimmer from the Indians. Plus another top 100 like Mejia and another really good prospect like McKenzie. If the Indians insist on keeping the 2 OF then ask for Bradley plus another player in addition to McKenzie and Mejia. If Smith (who is worth at least one top 100 given 3+ years of control) is included then you can talk about adding some combination of Aiken, Sheffield, Hillman or Chang to the deal.
  14. Trust me I get the idea that this is a small sample size and all that but have you noticed Gatewood's offensive numbers while playing 1b? 5 games: .381/.435/.714 (only 2 K's in 23 PA) As he spends more time at 1b instead of 3B it will be interesting to see if his offense continues to be stellar. Could very well be a case of the pressure of fielding affecting the bat. Given how many errors he had at 3b this year it would be hard not to have that affect you. I am sure Nottingham is feeling the same pressure in AA for the same reason.
  15. Carter has cooled off considerably. Numbers are now in line with career averages. If he picks it back up he is a guy that could get traded in August. Heck if Garza could string together 3-4 quality starts he could be traded in August too. Baltimore needs rotation help and has a bad minor league system. Seems like a match to me.
  16. I really want Bradley, McKenzie, Hillman, and Mejia for Lucroy and Smith. It fits our needs and all players involved have high ceilings. In my opinion it fits what Stearns is also looking for. I'd be all for this. I might even like it better (and the Indians may prefer) to swap out Bradley for Aiken. 3 really high ceiling pitchers along with one of the best C prospects.
  17. Would love to land two of these 3 to headline a Lucroy to Cleveland deal: LHP Brady Aiken 1B Bobby Bradley RHP Triston McKenzie I am with you on this. McKenzie is exactly the type of player Stearns is looking for in a return. Juan Hillman too.
  18. Fantastic stuff Splitterpjf. I didn't realize you had made so many contacts in the industry. I know you won't disclose your source but my guess is that this particular call came from an agent. Originally I thought it would have to be a scout given the comment about seeing Brandon Woodruff pitch, but how many scouts would be that in tune with what is happening with another teams front office. An agent makes some sense and reading the comments again I can see them coming from an agent who has dealt with Stearns on some level and likely has a player or two in the organization. Sorry, just hard to resist trying to puzzle this stuff out.
  19. I think both Nottingham and Phillips will benefit from repeating AA in '17.
  20. "It's harder than ever to be on the road away from family." To me that is Braun telegraphing that he really hopes he can be traded to the Dodgers or Angels. I think he views being in Milwaukee as just another form of being on the road. Given where the Angels are that really leaves the Dodgers.
  21. If I was Stearns I would issue a statement in response to Boras: While you and Zack may be disappointed in losing $24k, I can assure you Wilkins and his agent are thrilled. This move was never about cost containment but strictly about on the field strategy. Zack will be back in the rotation after the all-star break and for the foreseeable future. Nip this in the bud and turn the tables on Boras by pitting him against Wilkins agent. The players union can't complain because its a zero sum game for them.
  22. Another way to water down the return from the Dodgers would be to swap out Walker Buehler (#8 prospect) for Josh Sborz (#18) or Imani Abdullah (#22). Considering Buehler is still recovering from TJ surgery I think I might prefer that anyway. My ideal would be a return of: Deleon, Holmes, Bellinger & Barnes and then hope you can also squeeze Sborz or Abdullah out of them too by including a reliever from the Brewers.
  23. Texas may be well ahead of its division right now but things can change in a matter of a couple weeks (take a look at Cleveland). Also Houston has gotten hot behind them. Both teams could use and have interest in Lucroy. Stearns can play them against each other to maximize the return as neither team wants the other to obtain Lucroy. Stearns could do the same with the Giants and Dodgers who could both use Braun. Imagine a total return for those two (plus others and/or $) of: J.Gallo L.Ortiz J.Deleon or G.Holmes or P.Bickford C.Bellinger or C.Shaw A 1b and 3b and 2 very good starting pitchers to go with J.Hader. Add Arcia at SS, Villar at 2b, Phillips at CF, Nottingham at C and Ray at LF. By the 2nd half of 2018 it would be a very interesting team to watch.
  24. Braun is handling this stuff about as professionally as humanly possible. Absolutely. I don't think a team, GM or Agent could ask for better responses from a player in Braun's position. He always goes out of his way to say he would be happy staying with the Brewers (not sure I buy that) but that he completely understands where the organization is and what David Stearns would like to do. He really does get it, which makes him more attractive to other teams too. Really since the PED suspension Braun has done exactly what he needed to do: keep his head down, speak little, and when he does speak he gives the right answers. Basically do nothing to draw attention to yourself, or give people who hate you a reason to continue to hate you. That is how a politician survives a scandal.
