  1. Are there any unsigned players that anyone suspects will take a significantly overslot signing bonus? We have only one high schooler left in the top 10, I tend to think the college guys usually sign either a bit under slot or at slot.
  2. This feels like one of those days where Anderson throws 7+ shutout innings and flirts with a no-no. He's on the rotational chopping block and he knows it. I don't care if this is viewed as a jinx...I'm sticking to my guns.
  3. I actually putzed through the replies to his post, and a significant majority seem to agree with him. I see the occasional "I bought a ticket, I should be able to come and go from my seat whenever I want"...but what else can you do but roll your eyes and move on from that level of selfish/self-centered?
  4. Nice to see Cain dropped in the order, also nice to see CC making an effort to stagger his RH and LH hitters.
  5. This I believe is the key to the season. I think the strategy heading into the year was invest in offense to make up for mediocre starting pitching...and plug holes at the deadline. And really we have so many multi-inning options that our September/October baseball can be similar to last year. Heading into the season, FO could easily imagine 7 guys with 850 OPS or higher...and Yelich probably over 1000 OPS. In June, we have 4 guys over 800 OPS...all are LH hitters plus Grandal a switch. Braun, Cain, Aguilar...and then Shaw not getting it done.
  6. I agree with all of this, though frankly I fully disagree that he should have been given a chance at the MLB level after Hiura mashed during his time up. That's all in the past though, at this point...there are no valid argument remaining for Hiura to still be in AAA. All the weird comments like "he's not a pitcher" I find a bit silly. So we only try to improve our greatest weakness...and ignore all other weaknesses?
  7. To adam's point above, I think if the FO was super concerned about losing ground in the standings right now, we'd see bigger changes in the infield right now. The fact that Shaw and Arcia are getting so much leash is probably in part due to their general comfort level with the talent. I don't agree with it, but that's probably part of their thought process. As for the pessimism, it's way overblown I think. Right now, this is not a playoff team. But this team has also had so many guys significantly underperform already this year. I expected regression from Aguilar and Chacin, but I didn't expect them to go from all star to AAA caliber players. With the number of losses this team is racking up, we're getting close to a point where these massive regression guys need to bounce back...or we make some big changes. I hope the FO has a plan for it.
  8. I fully believe he'll get near peak velocity back in due time. Might take 7 or 8 appearances to get true upper-90s, but he'll get back there. I'm hopeful that he'll have some rust or just not be that good, but I still stand by this being very bad for the Brewers.
  9. I couldn't agree more with the Big Unit. You wait for between innings to go to your seat. Sometimes I'll try to hustle to my seat during a home run celebration when everyone is standing anyways. It blows my mind how little these fans seem to be concerned with anything but themselves.
  10. I completely disagree. I like the idea of more teams trying to win the last few months...make the buy/sell decision a bit more difficult. Otherwise, you probably end up with 7-8 teams in each league(or 5 as was the case in the AL) actually trying to win...while the other 7-8 teams traded all their producing vets and are rolling young guys that will likely lose a lot. Basically half the teams aren't even trying to win. I think it's overall a lot more fun and better for baseball to have more teams trying to win and trying to get in the playoffs.
  11. So saying a scrub like Nate Orf shouldn't be playing over Shaw means we're giving Shaw a pass? Nobody thinks Shaw should be starting right now. At least one person on this forum does, scroll up a couple posts. Maybe I'm in the wrong thread, I tend to agree that Orf probably isn't the guy that should be starting...but he's a better option than Shaw. That said, there are 3-4 better options than Orf so he shouldn't be picked.
  12. Torn UCL is probably 99% likely TJ right? I feel like I see guys with a UCL injury sometimes try to rehab it...but a tear is almost always TJ. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
  13. Right now, a cardboard cutout would provide about 80% of the production that Shaw is providing. I assume neither of you are watching the games, and watching him swing through fastball after fastball down the middle. He hits maybe 1 out 10 fastballs down the middle, and 1 very long hr a week and he gets a pass from you guys. Shaw has an option, and there's a perfectly good environment called triple a for him to work through his mechanical issues. Spangenberg, Saladino, and Dubon are better options than Shaw right now. All 3 are varying degrees of better defenders at 2b than Moose(Moose shifts to 3b and is equal to Shaw defensively), and all would hit much better than Shaw right now. Also Perez should be starting agianst both RH and LH over Shaw right now.
  14. He's probably the 5th best 2B option for the Brewers this year...on just their AAA affiliate. Hiura, Saladino, Dubon, and Spangenberg are all better. So, nope. Doesn't that make it a bit more maddening that Shaw is still in the lineup swinging through fastballs down the middle...considering all those options.
  15. I'm intrigued to see what Houser does on Wednesday in the rotation. According to fangraphs, he's throwing a legit 4 pitch mix out of the bullpen. 66% fastball, 13% slider, 15% curve, 6% change. If he's going to go a 2nd and especially a 3rd time through the order, he'll probably have to mix in a bit more offspeed. I'll be super curious to see how that looks. I really don't think the rotation is a reason for such alarms. A few guys aren't performing, but we have piles of other options. We are trying Houser, we have Wilkerson in long relief who can jump into the rotation, GG should be back soon, and Burnes/Peralta could re-figure things out in AAA over the next month and become options. If you remember, a month or 2 in AAA for Woodruff last year did wonders for him...he came back up a monster out of the bullpen. As close as the standings are, I think many teams make a decisive decision around mid-July and many teams will look to sell.
  16. Yelich will be due up 5th this inning. If we can get him an atbat, he may have a chance to tie the game.
  17. Just like the missed strike 3 on Winker. These guys affect the outcome all the time, because they are terrible at it. Oh well. The Brewers havent pitched well enough to win today anyways. Amazing how 2 ball/strike calls being correct is the difference in this game.
  18. In the moment, I was thinking Grandal should take 3-1 no matter what...then I remembered Aguilar was due up next. I'm good with taking a hack there. But agreed...should have been a 4 pitch walk. Amazing what a difference one bad call can make...
  19. Hard to argue with any of that. I'll agree as well, but keyword is at the moment. I would actually be in favor of moving pretty much every one of those guys off the active roster and to the minors immediately(aguilar DFA). We do have alternatives. I don't think you can do it all at once, but this team can be made better immediately just by giving some other guys a chance.
  20. Dietrich must be the dumbest guy on the planet. He wants to start something with Guerra with Thames standing right there?
  21. This is definitely a winnable game that Shaw vs Hiura may cost us...I have to believe Hiura would have been much more productive than Shaw today.
  22. And again he misses...that one was 95 but literally right in his hot zone. Center cut, bottom half of the zone.
