  1. I find this hysterical. Joe Maddon complaining about a rule that was basically designed to protect him from himself.
  2. At this point they could probably get more money waiting until the season starts and some team gets desperate after some injuries. All the players saying X player not being on a team is bad for the game. These players continue to price themselves out of being signed, and are now going to cross their fingers and hope enough players get injured that their demands are met. What saints these guys are...please Josh, explain to me again how the owners are the only bad guys here?
  3. I would also go Vlad as well. I don't love the idea of trusting pitchers that are injured right now. Especially with how bad shoulder injuries can be. I think I personally would rank those last 3 Vlad, Severino, Kershaw. I just think Kershaw is broken. He'll probably have stints of being able to stay healthy...but I have a hard time believing he'll throw 180 innings again. And his velocity has tanked, I just think his body is done.
  4. Does anyone think one or both of Keuchel/Kimbrel won't be signed by opening day? I'm starting to think both guys are going to start the season as free agents.
  5. On Braden Webb. I've personally been super high on him since he was drafted and think he might be the best pitcher in the system. I know that's a minority opinion. I fully expect him to be this years version of Woodruff/Burnes by June or July. https://twitter.com/JasonPennini/status/1105910255169343488
  6. Right. It's like the meeting started with "How can we ensure these innovative small market strategies stop working?" next guy is like "I know, we can change the rules and basically ban their strategy".
  7. So does this mean, that if the Brewers have a 2 weeks stretch with 4 off-days and decide to go with 14 hitters and 12 pitchers, that Milwaukee can then reclassify Hernan Perez as a pitcher? And if Hernan is then a pitcher, do we now have rules that indicate he can no longer play IF/OF for those games where he is listed as pitcher on the roster? Looks like per the press release: You can bring a position player into pitch if down by more than 6. You have to define a guy before the season. The only way a guy gets a definition of "2-way" is if he has a specific number of innings in the minors (I think 20+?). I could see some guy coming through the system given garbage innings to attain this but I'm not sure it is worth it on either end for that. You're taking time away from minors guys that actually will pitch and it will maybe affect one game all year. What about a case like Matt Davidson, where I believe he pitched in college but I believe now the Rangers are giving him a chance both as a pitcher and position player. So technically he wouldn't hit any criteria, but they fully intend to utilize him as a 2 way player. Erceg might fall into that category at some point as well.
  8. Or maybe you just fire your bullpen coach...as he should have noticed an problem during his warmup and communicated to CC that Jeffress just didn't have it that day.
  9. I'm a bit surprised that Shaw and Aguilar are on this list, especially Aguilar. Nice to see our guys get some recognition though.
  10. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything or speculates someone as the opening day starter? Is Chacin lined up for that role? Also, CC confirmed that Nelson won't be ready for opening day...that pretty much leaves 5 spots for 6 guys then right?
  11. Yelich might have been mildly snubbed, but only by maybe 1 or 2 spots. Trout and Betts were obvious, Degrom and Scherzer are pitchers so tough to compare and both guys are absolute animals, I could see Yelich being 5 or 6 but you're seriously splitting hairs with Arenado and Bregman. Both guys were better than Yelich in 2017, and Yelich was only marginally better than both in 2018.
  12. Prior to these signings and factoring in the Perry cut, the Packers had ~$38.2 million in cap space. Their draft pool is estimated at $10.3 million. Including that, and assuming your number for 2019, they've got about $1.9 million to work with free and clear, and more pending other cuts/restructures. Za'Darius' contract is the only one I haven't seen official numbers on yet, which implies some skepticism about his agents' details from yesterday. The others total $16,150,000, so I'm curious how his was officially structured. Update: Spotrac has his cap # at $7,250,000, leaving the Packers ~$4.5 million under the cap right now. According to this, the Packers have much more cap space than is being noted here.
  13. Right, very few guys are built like Sabathia/Verlander...where they can basically just pitch forever. Maybe Scherzer is one of those guys though...who knows.
  14. I thought I heard shoulder for Severino, not elbow...which I would consider potentially much worse than TJ actually. I play in a dynasty league with very deep rosters. Lately I've been trading all my mid-tier pitching for bats and draft picks. I just find pitching too volatile unless it's elite. No sense in sticking with an "established" upper 3's era guy that's 31 and could fall off at any time.
  15. Everything Jon Heyman reports is done with the goal of helping Boras get money for his clients. Kimbrel getting a big deal would be money that could go to one of his clients, hence Boras is having his media mouthpiece leak this info.
  16. Just keep riding the Bucks when they're less than 10 vs blah teams. not gonna get them all but should come out ahead. Unless of course they start resting Giannis or other key guys They won't do that until the last 4 or 5 games probably, I think they really want that number 1 overall seed. Raptors are only 2 back I think.
  17. I find this more interesting than usual because he's a big name prospect, and because of how strongly his teammate(Verlander) calls out cheaters.
  18. Tate would be the ideal guy, but I just can't imagine we have much cap room after the splurge today. Targeting a smaller wr in the draft for the slot seems like an excellent idea. Even if they like Kumerow there, he's really our only option there right now and I don't think you want to bank on one guy like that.
  19. I don't know if this has been posted yet. I take it this guy is pretty good?
  20. I'm not super knowledgeable on Packers, but I feel like we theoretically plugged our biggest holes today. We're clearly going to be sticking with our young receivers plus Davante, unless of course we target one in the draft. I also feel like we could use an inside linebacker, maybe do that in the draft? I'm also expecting us to draft a more physical tight end and probably another corner. Regarding Perry, I'm not sure how much cap space we saved cutting him. I don't think it's all that much actually.
  21. So Billy Turner is gettin 7 per, Amos is getting just over 9 per, and Preston Smith is getting 13 per, and I haven't seen numbers on the first Smith. How much cap space did we have to work with? I feel like we are going to blow the top off the cap real quick...
  22. This thread should be Packer non-moves...not Packer moves.
  23. Vouchers are in increments of $5 usually, at least for me they are though I have seen $10. And you don't get change. So no sense using a voucher on a $3 purchase. If a beer is normally 10 bucks, SSH day it's $7.50, you'd pay $2.50 cash plus a $5 SSH voucher. Also you can't use them at Fridays and I don't think the walking vendors will take them. I think you have to actually go to a stand.
  24. If this is true, Boras is seriously an idiot. Wow what a great deal that would have been for Maldonado. Considering he's going on 33 and a terrible hitter, and he's only made $8.5 million in his career...$12 million is life changing money. He'll be lucky to make that much over the rest of his career. What in the world was Boras thinking?
