  1. I would roll out the exact same lineup as yesterday. I don't think Braun will handle Archer's slider-heavy arsenal very well.
  2. I would consider a 2 year extension for Moose, but i think we need to see how the rest of the season plays out. Has Shaw completely lost it? How is Hiura doing? How do Dubon/Erceg look? What's our 1b situation? I like Moose alot. From what I've heard, he's one of the hardest working players in the clubhouse. I just don't know that we want to get carried away with a midseason extension. One side point, Moose is still a Boras client and Boras clients tend to not go for midseason extensions. I think Moose might be more open to it than your typical Boras client considering his FA experience the last 2 years and that he geniunely seems to enjoy playing for the Brewers. I would be curious to know how Moose/Boras would respond to a midseason extension effort from the Brewers.
  3. Wouldn't that be something if Gamel ended up with 2.5ish WAR as a part time player. He's probably been on the field for about 50-60% of all game action. Meanwhile, Domingo Santana has 0.4 WAR in twice as many PA.
  4. Ridiculous isn't it? I don't understand why such a nominal giveaway is what it takes to get people out of the house to see a Brewer game.
  5. Pipeline just graduated Houser from the Brewers top 30, and plugged in Rasmussen at number 15...currently ranking him as our 5th best pitching prospect.
  6. Definitely names I would have at least some interest in. I think the Nationals are going to want to try and keep Rendon, they have an advantage there if they keep him the entire year. Doolittle has the option and they are contending, so my guess is they'd rather keep him. Overall, I don't think either guy gets traded...so I don't really see a match here personally.
  7. We probably should also throw in Yelich with Burnes to make sure the Giants go for it...
  8. I understand trading for Smoak or Abreu puts us in a weird spot of dealing with multiple 1b that have name value. Aguilar had 1 all star caliber half of baseball last year and 1 mediocre half. He hasn't hit a HR all month, if he can't get going by the all-star break...we need to seriously consider buying Smoak or another 1b and trading him elsewhere for minimal return. Big guys like Aguilar tend to fall off a cliff production-wise very early in their careers. Aguilar will be 29. It definitely sucks to sell low, but we can't afford to ride out a black hole at 1b because he has name value. Or maybe they stick with Aguilar in a bench role and trade Thames. Thames has been decent, not great. Another team may want him for the option year, but we'd definitely get almost nothing but minimal salary relief for him at this point. Regardless of what ends up happening if we look for 1b production, not knowing what to do with Aguilar/Thames/Shaw is not a reason to allow an offensive black hole at the easiest position to field in baseball because we don't want to sell low on name value players. We need production at 1b, period. If nobody else is getting it done, Smoak is an excellent trade target.
  9. You're picking a weird hill to die on here. A 24 year old minor league arm off TJ that's wrecking every level. I remember CC having very favorable comments about his arm in ST. He may not make the majors this year, but very strong chance we see him in AAA at the rate he's going...possibly after only a couple more starts.
  10. Justin Smoak is an excellent target. I was recently playing with advanced stats for fantasy baseball purposes and he appeared to be one of the most unlucky hitters in all of baseball to this point. BABIP of .224, 5 year low k rate of 18.9%, 5 year high bb rate of 17.5%, hard hit rate of an insane 51%. I have absolutely no idea how his avg is only .224. All those numbers should indicate at least a 260 avg and over 900 OPS. I love the idea of renting him assuming the price is right. I would much much rather acquire him than Abreu. The fact that both could be available and very few teams really NEED a 1b should help us get the right price.
  11. I'm not sure the Brewers have 6-7 million to pay for Abreu. Would probably need a bit of salary relief. Don't forget, we're currently rocking around a $125m+ payroll right now and probably don't have a ton of room to add. The Brewers will probably have other needs as well, like a RH relief arm, that may require some payroll. Ignoring the financial aspects, maybe Abreu would be a good add. I think it comes with parting ways with one of Aguilar/Thames in some way. I feel like the White Sox may have some interest in Thames and that option. There aren't THAT many power hitting LH 1b on the market this coming offseason. $7.5 million would be a bit of a premium but it guarantees them a solid/decent player at the position for 2020...a year they'll likely ramp up to contention.
  12. Lineup - I don't understand why CC wouldn't stagger Grandal/Moose by at least 1 batter. So easy to use a lefty for the 4-5 spots and a righty for the 6-9 and 1 spot...they'll probably do that twice in the later innings unless of course this rookie SP throws a gem his first time out.
  13. I'm still very concerned about the Cubs. The best chance for the Cubs to falter is in their rotation, but if not it definitely would have to be on their pitching side as their lineup is too solid/deep. I've predicted it for a couple years now even with the additions of Quintana/Darvish and it still hasn't happened. The bullpen has been a bit shaky behind the top couple options, but they'll probably add a very good arm at the deadline...maybe even Kimbrel, also maybe Morrow will be back. Their offense is very very good in the 2-5 spots, and they have plenty of guys capable of 725-750 ops to rotate into the other spots and keep the entire lineup dangerous. The Cubs are definitely the team to fear in the NL Central. Agree with some above on the Cardinals. There's something about that team, they always manage to hang around. They are dangerous until they are eliminated. Not super concerned with Cincy or Pitt. Definitely not easy wins by any stretch, but hard to imagine them making a run at the division. NL Central is super deep and it's going to be a dogfight to get out. I just hope the other divisions aren't easy to the point that the Brewers have a chance for the wildcard if we can't keep up with the Cubs.
  14. I would like to see Brewers load up RH hitters against this guy. I looked up his scouting report and his breaking ball has a ton of horizontal movement. His changeup is also so good that he throws it to LH hitters as well as RH hitters. I feel like he's going to be incredibly tough on LH hitters and much more hittable for RH hitters. Cain Yelich Braun Grandal Aguilar Perez Moose Hiura Arcia I only put Perez 6 and Hiura 8 because Perez has been hitting better lately. I personally would even consider catching Nottingham with Grandal at 1b and Aguilar DH and Moose on the bench. I just know they won't do that.
  15. A lot can change over the next month or two, but I'm expecting a post-deadline staff to include a stud RH relief arm and possibly even another rotation arm for additions. I figure one of Peralta/Burnes/Albers get rotated out for a naildown reliever. Think Kirby Yates if the Padres make him available, or maybe Alex Colome.
  16. I disagree, umps are not kings or gods. Moose was not confrontational, you could see his body language. Easterbrook was just being a power hungry turd. Probably also didn't like the completely justified comments the Brewers were making about him yesterday. This clown wildly abused his power, it's black and white. Would like to see him suspended for his conduct this series...but he won't be even though he should.
  17. Moose went over just to ask him about the check swing call. Calmly ask him about it. Estabrook said "It was 100% a swing, I'm not talking about this". Moose says "I just want to have a conversation about it" and Estabrook tossed him. You can talk to the refs, period. These umpires that throw guys out of game for petty stuff like this have no place in this game, Moose 1000000% did not "get what he deserved". This guy has a problem, based on this and his strike zone yesterday...dude should go back to umping high school baseball.
  18. Right, all the top names will be long gone before we get a chance. I'm sure they'll go with an athletic up the middle player and/or someone with an excellent hit tool. Highly unlikely they even consider a pitcher in my opinion.
  19. Troy Stokes is also an option, though I tend to agree it would more likely be Taylor than Stokes. Hard to imagine anyone besides those 2 or Dubon. Possibly Zack Brown or Bubba Derby I suppose.
  20. Dang Winker smashed that one. Thankfully right at Arcia otherwise that's at least 1 possibly 2 runs. Hit hard enough that at a gap probably gets to the wall...
  21. I feel like 11 isn't going to be enough. 14 might not be enough. Jeez this game.....
  22. They have a deep, strong bullpen. Second in all of baseball strong. Not gonna be easy to score off of. bullpen putting up all zeroes on us...
  23. No. I'm sure Shaw could have played at 2B. I think they saw and continue to see him as the team's long-term 3B, and figured that the defense was close enough that Shaw should just stay at 3B. But it can also be argued that Moose's quicker hands and instincts also make him a better fit at 2B than Shaw. From Moose's perspective, playing 2b decent or better adds versatility and makes him more attractive next year in FA.
