  1. I'd like to think adding Harvey would allow us to keep most starters on a VERY VERY short leash. If Peralta is struggling in the 2nd inning, done. The idea of a 6 man rotation is interesting specifically because of our schedule. In September we play 6 games a week with every Thursday off. Anderson and Guerra specifically have proven they are much more sharp with extra rest. You could have starters pitching once a week with Davies and Woodruff available in long relief should any struggle.
  2. Stearns stated they have no innings limit on Peralta. However, that doesn't mean Peralta won't just get gassed here soon and turn into a noodle arm BP pitcher. Have you actually seen that? I'm not finding it anywhere. It would seem silly to have no restrictions on a 21 year old that has never thrown more than 130 innings.
  3. Call me crazy, but we need to move Braun back to 3rd in the order. He's the best hitter on the team when he's right, and at the moment he's right.
  4. Man it really sounded good too. I thought he had it for sure.
  5. The point is why even bother being a fan and come post on a fan site if you are going to spout whining and negativity? I came on tonight in a positive mood and they completely screwed up as usual. Why live in a dreamland where this team can be successful against every bit of reality? I guess it comes down to whether you live your life on blind hope or whether you recognize trends and give up... some of us have just followed this team for 28+ years and can't turn back. Maybe I should let my boys become Dodgers fans and spare them Last I checked, we are 12 games over 500 and in the thick of the playoff races. All while operating in the bottom 5 of resources available to compete with. The season is going well overall, some games suck. This one in fairness is much more due to rotten luck than anything.
  6. The point is why even bother being a fan and come post on a fan site if you are going to spout whining and negativity? Why even bother being a fan when everything is rainbows and unicorns with a complete failure to see the reality of a situation? You can't tell me this is making you feel warm and fuzzy right now. It's a tough game to watch, as will between 65 and 75 of the games this year. The sky isn't falling every time we lose a game or every time a guy makes a bad pitch.

  8. It's generally a good decision though. Playing the matchups. Just an odd coincidence that it happened this way twice.
  9. You did see that Jennings has a 3.1 ERA right? Sometimes guys give up runs...it happens.
  10. Well it helped us cruise to two wins in three days if we lose today. I think I will take that...always. Right, and this game isn't over. For the record, I love that CC is going to Jennings here. Williams has crazy splits RH vs LH. Great decision. Do what it takes to put up zeroes for 2-3 more innings and if we can't score, hand the ball to Lyles until it ends.
  11. Hard to complain about chalking up 2 wins, but with Knebel not right and Soria hurt...this is the result of leaning so heavily on Jeffress/Hader the last 2 games. Here's hoping Williams can get it done.
  12. I was gonna say, we just tied that game against Iglesias...you guys come to a brewerfan message board and spout a vast majority of pessimism. Why?
  13. Burnes bridged us nicely to the late innings, we need to score and quickly though. Iglesias could come out in the 8th and then it's pretty much over...
  14. Trying my best to be positive, the offense that has posted 5 runs in 3 innings is coming back up. We are only down 2 despite about a month worth of bad luck being crammed into one inning...
  15. This game is ridiculous. We should be winning 5-1...
  16. Burnes warming up in the bullpen. Man with Jeffress and Hader off limits this is gonna be a tough one...
  17. That's terrible by the umps, dude must have had his head up his a**
  18. I'm not sure giving both of our .300 hitters the day off is appropriate when we are wanting to go on a little run here? Someone needs to get on base! Thames will already be replacing Braun today if Thames is healthy... so if we insist on Broxton getting a start it would be at the expense of Cain or Yelich which is fine if one of them needs a rest, but please not both? They have plenty of off days to finish the year so I don't think Cain nor Yelich will need a day off. Broxton shouldn't get a start the rest of the year unless someone gets hurt. Late game defensive replacement and getting some ABs that way? Absolutely. Maybe I got a touch carried away by mistake there. Work Yelich or Cain in for one of those 3, or have Thames start for Aguilar who has clearly been slumping a bit and get one of those 2 out there.
  19. And remember, Maddon style bullpen management is to try and use every reliever you have every game for 1-2 outs...and then wonder why they keep getting injured. In fairness, at this point I would almost prefer that style to the CC try to be efficient style where he leaves relievers in consistently 2-3 batters too long.
  20. Well, for one, he has only played for about 2 months - he was hurt for a long time. His bat is coming around over the past 3 weeks, though. Right, he was very rusty early on but he's been very solid at the plate lately. I'm very aware of how he's doing as he's on my fantasy team(or will be until I trade him as I won't roster a filthy cub) and has been starting regularly for me. I know I made an anti-Theo comment previously...but reality is they gave up nothing for a month and playoffs of this guy, and Murphy is going to be good down the stretch. This was a no brainer move for them and basically a zero risk move. If he sucks, don't play him. Rosters expand in 2 weeks, worst case scenario Murphy goes cold and you bench him and you wasted a couple bucks.
  21. When Bryant returns: Against lefties, bench bat. Against RHP, Baez plays SS, Murphy at 2B. So who is the current Cub active roster player to go back to AAA to make room for Murphy right now while Bryant is still on the DL? And I don't think this move gets made unless the Cubs know they're not getting a healthy Bryant back soon. Wouldn't surprise me to see Murphy/Bote in a 3B platoon with the other serving as a primary bench bat. I don't think this moves their needle all that much, if at all. I'm pretty sure Murphy has a terrible arm, no way is he playing 3b. Could argue that Russell or Baez plays 3b when Murphy plays...I think the Cubs would be better off with Rizzo at 3b and Murphy at 1st than letting Murphy play 3b.
  22. If that's true, the Dodgers will be truly screwed as far as luxury tax if the Nationals simply let him walk. They'd be over for sure. That would give the Nationals a ton of leverage to extract major prospects. We'll see.
  23. A 21-year-old prospect in high A ball with a .695 OPS. Boy, the Cubs are screwed in 2021. Yeah, anybody that can't crack the top 30 in that crappy farm system has next to 0 chance of making the majors. I'm a bit surprised and irritated that no other team jumped in.
  24. Probably because everyone knows the Nats are going to ask for more than most teams would be willing to pay. It's a weird situation because they didn't decide to sell until after the non-waiver deadline, but now that they've decide to be sellers, they're still in a position to ask a lot. Kind of a perfect storm for blockbuster waiver deals. I love that the Cubs continue to be ridiculously all-in in a season in which they probably had an 80% chance of winning the division anyway. They're really slamming face-first into a wall of diminishing returns on their win-now moves. Classic Theo, pedal to the floor at all times...until you've used up all the resources. Then leave and move on to the next big market team in a favorable situation.
