    I was really disappointed that woodruff got pulled solely because I wanted that last out for a quality start for my fantasy team, all this despite knowing CC made the clear correct call going to Milner. Nice to see some good fight today from woodruff. It wasn't pretty but he kept us in the game against a very good lineup.

    You're probably right, I've always thought it was best to save hader for extra innings in this scenario versus using him in the 9th but CC hasn't seen it that way to this point. It will certainly be interesting

    I'll also add, I sure hope one of hader or Williams is available if we get the lead. Anyone else would be a bit of a yikes, especially with a runner starting on second

    I appreciate seeing CC give guys like Gott and Milner a try in such high leverage situations against a team like this. I also liked seeing him give burnes a chance in the 8th. It might be in part or in full due to work load of our top 3 options, it's still good to test these guys in these spots as there's a fair chance we'll need them to get tough outs in Sept and hopefully oct

    First time on the game thread in a while. Pretty much all but the last 3 or 4 posts filled with whining. I figured considering this has been a pretty darn good game against a contending team, there would be a bit more positive posts. Shame on me I guess

    I just took a cruise through the bad NL teams and found a fair amount of hitters that will likely be traded at the deadline to contending teams for varying prices. Ben Gamel, Tommy Pham, Brandon Drury, Tyler Naquin, David Peralta, Nelson Cruz, Josh Bell, Jose Iglesias, Wilsson Contreras, maybe Ian Happ, maybe Charlie Blackmon, maybe CJ Cron, maybe Jordan Luplow, maybe Christian Walker, maybe Bryan Reynolds, maybe Colin Moran. That's just from a handful of NL teams that are definitely not trying to compete. And there's always a chance of bigger moves for guys with multiple years of team control like a Juan Soto or Ketel Marte. There's a fair amount of good players to get split among the good teams. Also good teams with a surplus may trade an extra outfielder or something to add to a position of weakness elsewhere. Point being, I don't see the Brewers having any issue adding at the deadline and I don't expect cost to be prohibitively expensive.

    Even if Wong played to 95% of career norms, I think that was likely to happen anyways with how expensive the pitchers are going to get. Most likely next year they give Turang a shot at 2b, and by give him a shot...I mean add him to the roster and then give Jace 80% of the starts at 2b and wonder why Turang is only getting on base 1 time in his 7 PA in a given week.

    I wonder if the agent wanted him to go to LA, where another of his clients Clayton Kershaw plays. This seems like all sorts of dirty. And of course the agent is going to deny this. If he doesn't, his career is over. If he does and gets proven a liar later, his career is over anyways. Might as well deny for now and hope you don't get proven a liar. There's always a chance he's telling the truth but I don't believe it, the far more logical explanation is dirty dirty agent.

    If this is true, I have to imagine every player represented by Casey close will fire him immediately. It also makes so much more sense why Atlanta made the moves they made. I was so critical of them at the time, but it seems like they made a big final push for Freeman and dude didn't even know the offer happened.

    if my math is any good, baby is coming at 37 weeks. Not quite yikes territory but certainly not ideal. Hopefully all goes smooth.

    The Dodgers lost 5 of 6 to the lowly Pirates, 3 of 4 to the Phillies, and recently just got 3 game swept by the Giants scoring a combined 4 runs. All this happened in the last 30 games or so. Is anyone ready to project them to tank their way to missing the playoffs? Teams go on streaks. I'm less concerned by a bad 2 weeks than I am by the injuries in general. Starting pitching was expected to be the strength of this team. Especially with Lauer/Ashby breaking out, you would expect pure domination on that front. But Woodruff and Peralta are both currently injured and have a 4.74 and 4.42 ERA respectively. Currently by ERA the Brewers are 9th in MLB in ERA. That's certainly not bad, but with the talent we have we should be in the top 3. That's the path to winning 95+ games. If Woodruff finds his 2021 form upon return from injury, I think we'll be fine. I'm sure we'll play good baseball again pretty darn soon and we'll add at the deadline to bolster the roster(CF/infield).

    Mancini really shouldn't be playing outfield ever, he's worse out there than Yelich by a fair margin. Doing this would mean Tellez/Mancini against RH pitching and Mancini/McCutchen against LHP in the 1b/DH spots. Not a bad target, hopefully not too expensive.

    I thought I read that he WON'T be activated during this series. It seems like it's relatively imminent, but I would generally recommend not getting hopes too high on it being today or tomorrow or anything like that.

    That's fair, doesn't mean I have to like it, agree with it, or most importantly...that it's the best decision. You've provided pretty good support that it is in fact NOT the best decision.

    I generally agree with your point, but just because we haven't played many teams over 500 doesn't mean it's been an entire cakewalk. We split 6 games against a good braves team that will most likely claw back into the race. we took 2 of 3 from both philly and miami...both teams are capable of ending the season over 500. It certainly will be interesting if we can still win more series than we lose against clear contenders like SD/SF/LA/etc that all are at least a little bit better than Phil/miami.

    I was looking at the standings. One fairly concerning stat I found, the Brewers have played 42 games...and we are 2-4 against teams with a record greater than 500. 0-1 against each of the padres/giants and 2-2 against the cardinals. Point being, we've played a shockingly soft schedule to date. This Padres series is actually the beginning of our schedule getting significantly more difficult. We have all our games against the Mets/Dodgers, most against Padres/Giants, all 4 good AL east teams, twins, and we've only played the cardinals once while we've played our other bad divisional opponents at least twice.

    On the surface, yeah I would be content with that slash line even with Peterson being a negative defensively in the outfield. That said, it's a problem if those at bats come at the expense of Hiura atbats...and they will. Hiura is probably no worse than Peterson out there who is definitely below average.

    What's most likely is we see a lot more Jace Peterson in the outfield...unfortunately. CC has an obsession.

    He has value on defense, I would be on board with letting him hold a roster spot as primarily a defensive replacement. We need 13 position players anyways. It gets interesting if we add an impact CF at the deadline though. At that point I don't know how we'd keep Mccutchen/Cain/Taylor all on the roster as backups. For me, biggest surprise in those numbers is probably still 1b/DH. That's a big wrc+ number, tellez is truly having either a breakout season or the year of his life. Either way, it's great to see and we definitely needed the production. 3b is mostly that low because Urias is playing SS right now, once Adames is back that position is fine.

    I did my part towards helping the Brewers win, I started Fried in my fantasy league. Hoping he gets shelled...
