  1. How does Stearns do it? I wonder if he specifically identifies the GM's that are bad at valuing assets and tries to only trade with them.
  2. Haudricourt seemingly dismissed the notion that Ashby would be an acceptable return for Narvaez on twitter. He seems to think we'll be giving up more, hopefully he's wrong but that makes sense.
  3. Narvaez has played 5 career innings at 1b, all back in 2017. Before that he hasn't played it since 2011 when he was 19. I'm not sure 1b is realistic, at least not immediately.
  4. Just say no. Vogelbach is a DH with a .204 career BA. Hits some HRs, but a PH at best for the Crew. Kelenic is a A ball prospect. Seager is way too expensive. Why not just get the most desirabel player, Narvaez, and keep Hader? Posts in blue are sarcastic. Also the most desirable player in that group would be Kelenic, and it's not remotely close.
  5. Looking at his spray chart on statcast from last year, he might have 5 or 6 more HR if he'd played all his games in miller park last year.
  6. you must be a cub fan...or at least drinking the illinois koolaide
  7. Nightengale reported that the White Sox had a slightly higher bid than the Phillies.
  8. Hopefully Stearns can find some bargain gems later on.
  9. This will help, my guess is now it will play more neutral vs pitcher friendly. The ball simply doesn't carry all that well down there...will still be harder to hit a HR there than miller park.
  10. Hard to imagine anyone disagreeing with this. I like it as well. I feel like we've had more action to this point this year than we had either of the last 2 years by December 31st.
  11. It probably took a deal above $15 million to get him to pitch, that dude has made so much money he'd probably just retire if he didn't get a $ amount he deemed acceptable. The name value also for sure sells a lot more jerseys than Lyles does.
  12. Come on! Take off the Brewers colored glasses. Hamels has been a top tier starting pitcher in the major leagues for over a decade. Not only does he have the track record Hamels had the better season last year under any objective standard. I took a quick look, up until about 2 minutes ago I thought Hamels was 38 going on 39. He's actually only going on 36...and yes that matters a lot. I suppose it's probably more likely that he has a better season than Lyles, but I still don't think he's worth $18m. Worth noting, Hamels velocity dipped to below 92 mph for the first time since he was 24. He also had nearly a 6 era in the 2nd half. I think it's very safe to say that Hamels is not a top tier starting pitcher anymore. He might work as a veteran #3 starter right now. $18m is a hefty price for a #3 starter.
  13. Agreed on Keuchel. I'm glad the Brewers didn't go for this. I think we can find a better deal than this. Heck I think Lyles > Hamels at this point.
  14. I laughed way too hard at this. How can anybody take this guy seriously with the line "incumbent shortstop Orlando Arcia is currently penciled in as the starting third baseman"? Does this guy know anything at all about baseball? https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/why-the-brewers-could-tumble-down-the-standings-if-their-offseason-doesnt-change-course/
  15. The Hiura piece isn't news. Everyone discusses everyone this time of year. I firmly believe if Hiura gets moved, we will have destroyed whichever team in that trade. The odds of him moving are pretty low. I think the odds of Yelich getting traded are higher...and that's pretty close to zero as well.
  16. It's certainly possible the Brewers think Hader is going to regress significantly in short order. That's how it tends to go with relief pitchers. If Hader doesn't adjust his arsenal and add more offspeed, that is very very likely to happen. Too many guys have seen his fastball at this point, and are far more prepared to handle it than when he first came into the league.
  17. I think maybe this move makes more sense next offseason versus this offseason. All depends if the Brewers think he has 1 more good year or not. You're playing with fire a bit the longer you hang onto him.
  18. Reminder that part of getting Faria is probably getting some info on how the Rays develop their pitchers. They are a team that's better than most at developing arms. I also generally like Faria's stuff and I think he'll do fine for us. He was a starter so can certainly be used in a multi-inning relief type role.
  19. There has been a whole lot of cutting costs...so yah, I would expect them to go after someone. Not sure as big as you are hinting, but they should be signing some guys that are notable. Sure, a lot of these guys aren’t worth their salaries, but overpaying first a risk type guy by a couple million isn’t a bad deal all the time here and there. I don’t have a problem with any of the moves they have made, for now. It depends who they replace them with and how they spend that money. If they let these guys go, cut payroll by $20mil or more, and one of these guys rebounds big...well then it is kind of a questionable decision by the Brewers. Maybe not Cole or Stras, but maybe MB or Ryu or someone on that next tier. Our needs are TOR SP, C, and now middle relief with those 2 moves. We have some depth in relief, but we'll need a couple new arms. Hopefully Stearns has a couple gems in mind. I feel like we're generally ok at 1b/3b still. We probably need bodies, but I don't think we need to spend big to fill those holes adequately. And there are a decent number of solid catchers that would be 1a/1b with Pina at this point.
  20. These moves make no sense on the surface unless the plan is to go after a big time pitcher...finally.
  21. This makes me a bit sad. I didn't want Nelson gone. He was one of my all time favorites. I appreciated his work ethic and competitiveness. I would like to think we'll bring him back on a lower deal, but he's probably gone.
  22. Moose is a really hard worker. Guys that put in the effort have a better shot at lasting longer. I think it's pretty likely that he's a very good player for at least the next 2 seasons and possibly all 4, I would be surprised if he was in that replacement level category in year 4.
  23. Lamb is probably a minor league deal only type guy. He's not worth a major league deal, especially if he can't play 3b. Since last year was his first year after a major injury, it's certainly possible his bat comes back to life. I'd bet on Shaw having a more productive year than Lamb though.
  24. It is certainly more fun having stuff happen early in the offseason. It gives me hope that we coudl see a pile of big signings during the winter meetings in a week or two. Or of course...more trades.
