  1. I'm super happy for Moose too, he was notorious for being one of the hardest workers and overall great for the clubhouse. I'm most sad that I opted to trade him away on my dynasty league team toward the end of last year. He's going to hit 50 homers in that little sandbox in Cincy.
  2. It's December 2nd. If anything, the market has shifted back to more normal. Prior to the last 2 offseasons, teams spent all their money in December...and the teams that "won" the offseason generally waited until everyone else spent all their money and got solid players at bargain rates. So if anything this is a return to the norm and overall good news for the Brewers(and baseball in general).
  3. Let's factor in here that it's completely possible if not likely that Rosenthal has slightly mischaracterized what the Brewers are doing with Hader. I doubt we're calling teams like "hey Hader is available, what's your best offer". What's more likely is in talks with other teams, Hader has come up in discussion and certain other teams with big mouths made comments to Rosenthal. I wouldn't be surprised if Yelich, Woodruff, Hiura, Knebel, etc...literally everybody on the Brewers that has value has probably come up in discussion at some point over the last year and a half or so. Stearns has quite the track record on trades, to the point that it's very unlikely he makes a glaringly bad trade when moving Hader.
  4. Sidenote, what is the earliest a team has ever clinched their division? The Saints clinched already, with 4 games to play. That's hilarious.
  5. I can completely get behind this thought process to be honest. It's certainly possible he played both games like preseason games to a degree. Vanilla schemes, not showing either team too much, knowing their entire schedule this season aside from 4 games was a cakewalk. Just stay healthy and get some game tape to devise a way to beat these teams when it matters. I've been saying the Patriots aren't THAT good since the season started. Especially those anointing their defense as one of the best ever. That defense was extremely exposed last night and against the Ravens earlier. It's not even the best current defense. It's a top 5 defense currently, but certainly doesn't enter the best ever conversation. All that said, Belicheat may have some shenanigans left in the chamber that he's saving for playoffs.
  6. You're over-simplifying. It's not 1 now, you have Hader for up to 4 years. And trading one or two players now doesn't necessarily hinder you that much right now. Especially if they consider being light years ahead of everyone else in developing talent. What does it matter if they trade Verdugo, if they have surplus OF now and they can develop 2 more equally productive OF over the next couple years? Again, not saying give guys away just to give them away. There's quite a bit of logic in trading for Hader pending the price. The Pirates price was clearly too high for Vazquez, maybe we can strike the right balance that works for both teams with Hader. I'll over-simplify by saying Hader for Lux and Verdugo is way too high, but Hader for Ruiz is way too low. There's miles of space between those 2 values, maybe they can get it done and maybe not.
  7. I get that. And yes some of the proposals are slanted in the Brewers favor pretty significantly. There definitely is a pretty significant sweet spot where it makes sense to use some of their excess to win now, especially with how good they are at developing. Lux might be too good, but maybe one of those 2 catchers and May or another good pitcher would make sense. Also I generally feel like you are underestimating Hader's value a bit. The drop-off from Hader to Betances is huge...and the drop-off from Betances to everyone else is even bigger. Hader over the last 2 combined years is 2nd in WAR to Kirby Yates.
  8. I believe Chapman extended with the Yankees, so that's out. Betances is available and they have deep pockets, but plenty of other teams will be involved in the bidding AND he's a much bigger wildcard than Hader...and probably not as good, and not LH. This isn't a situation where "the Dodgers bullpen sucked, therefore they'll pay triple the value of Hader to fix their problem". I'm sure they'll weigh out the asking price versus ability to add value elsewhere. It's an indisputable fact that the Dodgers and Brewers match up very well in a Hader deal...but also the Dodgers pretty much match up with everyone's needs because they basically have a surplus of elite everything except RP.
  9. I don't like the idea of making a big trade with the Yankees, primarily because Cashman isn't an idiot and probably won't make a bad trade. Brodie on the other hand...yes let's do business with him.
  10. For both of those guys, we might have to add something to Hader to get it done...which frankly would be fine.
  11. How realistic is Hader for Thor? I feel like their values aren't THAT far off, I'm also not sure which side needs to add. Thor has 2 years of more expensive control for 4 of Hader, but SP vs RP...
  12. FWIW, the Mets board seems convinced it will be Davis, Smith, or Mcneil headlining any Hader trade, with good prospects added as well. Most don't want to give up Mcneil or Mauricio. I'm not very familiar with their system personally, none of their prospects really jump off the page at me... I still like a trade with the Dodgers best. If we are indeed floating Hader's name out there, I have to imagine no less than a dozen teams are at minimum inquiring on him...with more than half of those seriously entertaining the idea of acquiring him. Hader is not only a top 5 reliever in baseball, but he's also by far the best available...and by far the best deal from a $ perspective when talking premium relievers.
  13. Tend to agree. The old Marco Estrada role, starts when needed but otherwise mostly long relief. Have him ready to pitch 3 innings anytime a starter has a bad outing...obviously making him available to fill in for a start or two whenever needed.
  14. +1, I really enjoyed your insights into evaluation. I'll add this entire thread has been a very enjoyable and good discussion.
  15. It frankly blows me away that anyone would choose this guy after considering his Twitter feed.
  16. I think lauer is better than many are giving him credit for. His stuff is much better than Davies and young enough to still improve.
  17. This is a great trade, love it. I can see why both teams wanted to do it, still couldn't be happier. I was mildly concerned that grisham was on an extended hot streak and this wasn't the new norm for him. Also much easier to get a solid OF than a solid ss in this market. Heck gamel is probably 90% as valuable as grisham at minimum. Also lauer is much better than Davies in my opinion, and more team control
  18. It's tough to imagine getting a significantly more valuable player outside of either didi, or the trade market. It sounds like the Phillies are hoping to upgrade from Segura, could certainly look at bringing him back if he's interested(he may have no trade protection). He has 3/44ish left on his contract and a buyout of his 2023 option. That's probably a slightly negative value contract at this point, so maybe we could get him on a good deal. He was also injured last year so has serious bounceback potential.
  19. Apparently the Yankees are trying to NOT pay Jacoby Ellsbury for the last year of his guaranteed deal. This seems like a truly scummy move by the club to me. What player would want to sign with a team that's going to sign you to a contract and then elect to not pay you?
  20. As much as the Packers injury report is surprisingly stacked with names, alot are non-injury related and most everyone else is practicing fully. Even Tonyan looks like he'll play. We should be able to give it our very best shot on Sunday.
  21. That seems about what I expected, basically paying him Rizzo money for 80% of Rizzo production and a microscopic fraction of his clubhouse presence.
  22. Hard to imagine Rendon not getting a $200m deal in the 6-7 year range. My guess would be something like 90% of what Arenado got with his extension. I have considered whether Turner would be a good fit though, if Rendon went to LA. I think in general, we match up incredibly well with LA in so many ways. It would surprise me if we DIDN'T make at least one deal with them this offseason...maybe that deal is for 3b help.
  23. That seems weird, why would they give him up for what appears to be nothing? 3.5 era in AAA last year is certainly nothing to sneeze at.
  24. They'd still need to go something like 2/$12 or 3/$16.5 at a minimum. I'm not sure I buy that. All depends on how the market plays out. If enough teams go with internal options at min salary, some established 1b could get left out in the cold or stuck on minor league deals. I doubt that happens to Thames, but it certainly coudl get to a point where 2 teams are left looking for 1b help and 3 or 4 similar guys are still out there.
  25. AFC South football in general is just Meh. I was going to say, the Colts just ran the ball like 80% of their plays yesterday. At least Watson threw and connected on some deep passes. Must just be an AFC South thing.
