  1. Bingo. I hope this thread sticks around for the "long haul" because I believe there will be some ridiculous posts to look back on in 30-45 days.
  2. Exactly. Historically, while the Brewers are certainly not alone in this, they have been terrible at developing impact pitching and moving it through the system. Know who you are. If you struggle to develop it and are better at moving bats quickly up the ladder, find buying opportunities for pitching via the trade market. Don't try to be something you're not and waste draft capital or cash flow in the process.
  3. To be fair, the track record after round 3 isn't quite the same. Over the last 20 years, outside of Khris Davis, you could make a case the college bat drafted after round 3 that provided the most value to the Brewers is Jason Rogers. They've gone that route a bit more heavily the last couple of years, so hopefully between Kahle, Dillard, Holt and Hamilton and now Wiemer and Cantrelle, along with a couple of other at least productive minor leaguers in the system like Hummel and Fry, that trend will be broken soon. Corey Hart, Scooter and Lorenzo Cain not bad. Gamel's career was derailed by injury.
  4. Some people just plain lack accountability. Nobody held a gun to your head, you willingly handed your money over. If you made the decision to purchase tickets, you accept the responsibility associated with that purchase. I get that value hasn't yet been presented back but that certainly is not the fault of the teams given the uncertainty involved here. As unlikely as it seems, there's no guarantee that the 2020 season won't happen and your purchasing decision was an agreement to exchange your money for this season, circumstances be damned. If you need the money now, you probably shouldn't have made the purchasing decision in the first place because it was probably a reckless decision to begin with. How about starting there? Point thumbs, not fingers. "Millionaire players?" Instead of being envious, jealous and resentful of their talents, how about we acknowledge that if it wasn't for their talent and your conscious decision to support the "millionaire" players you wouldn't even be on this site or in the position of regretting your ticket purchase to begin with?
  5. At the risk of being insensitive, it is definitely interesting to see some of the same fans that constantly clamor for the Brewers to increase payroll and take on millions in debt now cry poor over a few hundred bucks in tickets.
  6. It is for this reason, and many others, that I am glad that David Stearns runs this team, and not random message board posters. Absolutely agree with this point. That said, talk about the pot calling the kettle black. The way you dug your heels in two years ago, if you were running the team Christian Yelich would never have seen a Brewer uniform and probably be a Cardinal.
  7. Not entirely true. Athletes are taxed based on the state/s they play in during a given pay period. While half of Rendon's games will be played in tax jail California, the other half are elsewhere.
  8. My votes go to Joe's Fox Hut in Fond du Lac, Caradaro Club in the MIL and Happy Tap in the Dirty Stallis.
  9. This exactly. Looking at our roster, non Brewers fans would be penciling us in as a non-playoff contender. Step outside of your fandom and have a look at this roster. We are signing depth guys as starters and everyday guys. I just don't see us competing with the Cards and even the Reds. And.......you hated the Yelich trade where we ultimately traded what you mis-evaluated as impact guys for the best player this side of the Mississippi. Put it down. I guarantee that one of those guys that you're writing off will have major impact. Much more than the bums we traded away for Yelich.
  10. Exactly. As a starter, he's got some potential, but he's only going about 3 IP per start. Now, that, IMO, is putting him in Hader "fireman" territory in the majors. With Josh Hader, you are witnessing the best Brewers reliever since Rollie Fingers. There won't be another Josh Hader and talking about "Hader's replacement" or "the next Hader" is simply wishful thinking and a waste of time.
  11. Thanks for putting this together. Interesting post although I disagree in a few places. First, I don't think many would argue Feliciano as the best catching prospect given he's 3 years younger, at a more advanced level, Fry is no longer playing catcher and has been old for his league. Tyrone Taylor is about to turn 26 and given Lutz's upside, he's much more of a prospect to me at this point on age alone. Frankly, I really don't even consider Taylor a "prospect" given his age. Finally, I definitely don't see Sunitsch in the same light that I view both Ashby and Small. I think you could reasonably argue the top spot for either of them, I just don't see Sunitsch there myself.
  12. 1-5M for a guy who threw 176 innings last year and wasn't a total disaster is a good deal, and if he blows up, it isn't a crippling amount to cut. Anderson could collect Cy Young votes next year and some here will think it was a bad signing because he doesn't throw hard enough or strike guys out.
  13. To all posters: Please remember this post. These are the best ones (ala the Yelich acquisition thread) to go back to down the road. We either have a future GM candidate or a dunce. There's not likely much in between here.
  14. No, because we wouldn't have a decent CF on the roster. and i can't see someone taking on that contract. Really? You really think with all the money being thrown out there this off-season that a large market club would think twice about $15M or so for gold glove caliber defense in CF the next three years? That's not even a dent to any large market club.
  15. Stras is getting paid the equivalent of a fortune 500 CEO salary. Would you say his skill set is more or less unique than a CEO's? More. Far more. I don't even know how to respond to this nonsense. Spend a day, just one, with a CEO. The good ones don't sleep.
  16. If Peralta is anywhere near the starting rotation to open the season I think most will consider it a declaration that they're not serious about competing this year. One pitch guys who can't command even that one pitch typically struggle out of the pen let alone the starting rotation.
  17. Not necessarily. I think what some of us fans are worried about is whether we are making decisions to improve the team or making decisions in order for Mark A. and the rest of the ownership group to hit their profit margins. Obviously payroll is not everything as the Dodgers can attest to but I'd much rather the team sign good players that give us a 5% better chance to win the WS than try to get by on the cheap and hope whoever we find to fill spots can have a career year for us. Look at what the Red Sox are doing with Mookie Betts. He undoubtedly is a top OF in baseball and would make the Red Sox better next year if he stays, but they are shopping him because they're worried paying him what he's worth will impact the "budget." This is an example of a team actively trying to make their team worse in order to save money. This is the stuff that is maddening as a fan. Worse in the short term, likely better in the long term. Let's not omit the obvious that Mookie Betts' performance is likely to decline to the point where he'll be a liability at the salary he's likely to make, not an asset. See Albert Pujols.
  18. At first glance, this feels like a steal to me. The comp pick likely never reaches the majors and strong likelihood Hill doesn't either.
  19. Here we go. You may want to follow one of the top 8markets in baseball. Not one in the bottom 5. The Bucks are a small market...they spent a crap ton of cash in the off season...the Packers are a small market...they spent a crap ton of $$ in the off season. That's a crutch that owners of "small market" teams lean on and fans buy into sadly. You are only a "small market" if you act like a small market. I'll take "Economically Unaware" for $2,000, Alex."
  20. Suter proved to be an absolute weapon for the Crew down the stretch. I know people aren't in love with his stuff but the guy provides so much from a locker room/glue standpoint that if his performance next year mirrors anything even close to what he showed this year, he's an incredibly valuable piece to have for a team that doesn't really have any guys that you can count on for 7 every time out (at this point in time). With his versatility, I wouldn't at all be surprised if we look at Suter a year from now as the team's MVP. Regardless of stuff, he knows how to pitch and he's just a gamer.
  21. Agree with the exception of Plesac. I'd put Yo in his place.
  22. A couple things here. Yes, Villar had a nice season. With that said hindsight is 20/20, I'm not sure anyone really questioned the move at the time and it's much easier to put up those kind of numbers 40 games back of contention.
  23. Just stop He can go. Seen this before. We'll trot him out there next year and he'll look like 40 year old Jesse Orosco. Would be 100% fine with shipping him out while someone still bites. Please stop being a fan with horrible takes like this.
