  1. Nothing short of Eloy Jimenez, Happ and Calendario to start if dealing with Cubs
  2. Wouldn't Rich Hill to LA be good for the crew? 3/40 means more salary and more pitchers in their mix. If in fact a Braun for Puig/McCarthy/prospects deal will get done.
  3. A number of people on this board wanted Pedro Payano from the Rangers to be the PTBNL in the Lucroy trade who's available in the draft now. Seems like he'd be a similar pickup to Miguel Diaz. Not overpowering but knows how to pitch with good control.
  4. Junior = Jr. = JR
  5. I hope they have something in the works for the 2017 1b...
  6. Could it be that there's trades in the works for some of our current relievers....
  7. Junior Guerra alone will make all that back and much more when he's traded. Need to trust the scouts and talent evaluators.
  8. [sarcasm]Can you take guys from your own system?[/sarcasm]
  9. http://www.twinkietown.com/2016/2/15/10999444/adam-brett-walkers-unreal-power He's got a big stick, but it has a big hole in it...hopefully he can make an adjustment to make more contact
  10. Hoping they are trying to push through a trade to clear another 40 man spot before 4pm today...for the right return of course
  11. Jon Morosi reporting multiple teams in talks with Brewers about Junior. What type of return could/should be had? Top 50 player? Top 100? 2 Top 100's? Drew Pomeranz brought back Anderson Espinoza who was a top 50 player.
  12. Just going off this article from last year and the Astros needs for a LF still and Luhnow stating this week he wanted to start a match under the hot stove and mentioning he wanted to be very aggressive this winter. Its not necessarily the west coast or Miami, but its pretty much in the middle if that counts for anything.... http://www.espn975.com/ryan-braun-linked-to-houston-astros-via-trade/ I realize it would take him waiving his no trade clause, but that could be one dangerous lineup with him in the middle of it. Correa, Altuve, Springer, Braun, Bregman, Gattis. Houston has a deep farm system even after selling off some of their top prospects the last 2 years. Would a David Paulino(SP) 22 years old(mentioned as frontline starter), JD Davis(3B) 23 years old, and a lower level arm do it(Stearns I bet knows all the good ones)? Frances Martes is their #1 prospect, but several have said that Paulino(6'7") is pitching much better than him right now this fall and he would likely see the major leagues in 2017. JD Davis has 49 HR's combined the last 2 years and could see the majors this year as well and possibly fill the 3B slot that our organization needs, he is also at least #3 in their organizational 3B depth chart behind Bregman and Moran. Houston's system would still be stocked for other moves that they need and they have their LF and #3 or #4 hitter for the next 4 years. Free's up one of our last 2 multi-year contracts and gives us 2 positions we need, frontline starters and 3B.
  13. I think he or David Washington would be good 1B depth if they can sign a minors deal with them. How can your OBP be lower than your batting average? His 2015 AA stats 377/371/580
  14. Essentially pulling an AJ Preller in San Diego a few years ago, look how that turned out.
  15. Does anyone have any knowledge of Colorado Springs and any pitching philosophies they are using if any? Just looking back at Jorge Lopez and how he went from dominant in AA to dreadful in AAA(I know, everyone gets shelled in CS). Read an interesting article at Baseball Propsectus http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=20069 on the effects of the certain pitches in that environment. It looks like Jorge likely lost a lot of confidence in his pitches and the results showed. From the article it looks like the fastball and slider are the only two effective pitches that react the similar no matter what environment you are in. Would it be wise to treat Colorado Springs like early spring training and just have pitchers pitch fastball/slider no matter what and use their full arsenal on the road(change ups and curveballs)? It looks like Jorge Lopez has been pitching great this fall which is good to see, but would hate to see him regress again going back to Colorado Springs. Could this be a useful strategy the next 2 years to hopefully keep pitchers confidence in their pitches and hope we get an opportunity to move the affiliate to a more development friendly environment? Or are they trying this already?
  16. I'd like to see Thornburg go to the Red Sox for a package headlining Michael Kopech. Sox looking for a setup man and I know Kopech has had some off the field issues, but he's got a big arm and lighting up the AFL. Reminds me of Syndergaard and could very well be the TOR starter in just a few years.
  17. Wondering if Edwin Rios from the Dodgers would be a target for the Brewers even though he's in Double A and rated as the #26 prospect for the Dodgers as part of a return for Braun. I realize he's not too far ahead of our other younger guys in Erceg or Gatewood. Only reason I brought up his name is that I was looking through the Fangraphs KATOH rankings from 1/29/16 and noticed Stearns traded for a number of highly rated players last winter from this modeling system, Ramon Flores #24, Jacob Nottingham #29, Isan Diaz #69. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/katohs-top-100-list-now-incorporating-multiple-years/ Rios doesn't show up on that list, but he's the #2 ranked 3B from their 7/25/16 rankings at #20, one spot ahead of Orlando Arcia. Ryan Cordell showed up at #78, Phil Bickford at #104(Brinson and Cordell were the only Rangers on the list outside of Gallo, Bickford was the only Giant) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/an-improved-katoh-top-100-list/ I know the Brewers scouting isn't based on this modeling as it has its flaws, but I find it interesting that some of his targets last off season were highly rated on this system and not other top prospect lists. Just throwing it out there in case he's a piece to a Braun trade.
  18. That stinks, wanted to see what he could do. Looks like he's been doing ok this fall, wonder if they should have tried to pass him through waivers a couple weeks ago before getting back on the field if they wanted to keep him....
  19. Wow, Willie Calhoun is 5'8", 21 years old and hit 27 HR's last year in AAA. Left handed hitting 2B. MLB pipeline say his defense is sketchy and probably a LF....
  20. Sucks that the Cubs advanced to the World Series, the good that comes of it is that the Dodgers clearly could use a middle of the order bat and experience in LF. Hoping the Dodgers try and fill that void with Braun in a couple weeks.
  21. Anyone see Joey Gallo as a possible solution at third? Package surrounding Junior Guerra for Gallo? I'm not advocating it, but Gallo put up very good OBP and Slugging numbers in AA and below. Something that could be fixed in his swing? He is still only 22 and Texas doesn't seem like they want anything to do with him.
  22. We have an upper level organizational black hole at 3B. Other than Hernan Perez, who was labeled as a super utility, we don't really have too much to turn to at the MLB level. Yadiel Rivera and Cecchini are the only other 3B listed on the 40 man roster and Yadiel falls into the same category as Perez. Villar's likely position of the future will be 2B. Not sure if Cecchini would be the answer there. Down in the minors, I personally am high on Lucas Erceg. He has a solid left handed bat and seems to be holding his own on defense with a solid arm, even playing some SS recently. Problem his is only in A ball and still 2+ years away from the big league club. Also in the lower levels there is Gilbert Lara, in Rookie Ball still years away, Chad McClanahan in the same boat and Jacob Gatewood who is in A ball himself and started a transition to 1B. One local writer suggested trading for Jeimer Candelario from the Cubs which I would absolutely love. He is a switch hitter who put up a 1.052 OPS over his first 25 games in AAA. He is also blocked by Kris Bryant and Rizzo so there is no room for him in the near future for the Cubs. He is rated the #4 overall 3B on the MLB Pipeline and 99 overall. I am not sure if the Cubs would be willing to deal him to a division rival or what it would take to get him. Thornburg in a package? He could conceivably be brought up next year. Other than Candelario, there doesn't seem to be alot of depth at 3B for stars waiting to join the big leagues. Devers, Senzel, Guerror Jr(still many years away), Hayes, Andujar, Dozier and Lowe(still many years away) are likely off limits as there are no big names ahead of them in the majors which leaves Matt Chapman from the A's available if they decide Ryon Healy is their 3B of the future and Ryan McMahon who is blocked by Arenado in Colorado. Chapman has big power but big swing and miss and McMahon struggled this year including too many errors to seem reliable at the hot corner. Renato Nunez from the A's falls into the same category as Chapman with alot of power and swing and miss with less defense. At the MLB level in the near term, these are the free agent 3B's: Yunel Escobar(34) Aaron Hill(35) Ruben Tejada(27) Justin Turner(32) Luis Valbuena(31) Thoughts on direction the Brewers should go for the next couple years at 3B?
  23. Rockies have a good farm system and they acknowledged that they would be looking for relievers this winter. What if we offered Thornburg for Ryan McMahon and one of their top arms? McMahon is blocked by Arenado and coming off a down year. He is still only 21 in AA. We need an upper level 3rd baseman with promise.
  24. I don't think Puig hinges on this trade to the Dodgers. I think Braun will be dealt to LA returning Puig or not.
