  1. After the exchange last night about robots and the umpire screwing Peralta, I took a look at the Umpire Scorecard for the game. It was quite interesting. Either the strike zone box on TV is wrong or the Umpire scorecard is wrong, or both. The scorecard showed no missed calls one way or the other on balls right at or below the bottom of the strike zone. If nothing else the Umpire scorecard disagrees with the sentiment on the board that the 3-2 pitch called a ball was clearly a strike.
  2. This inning should take the pressure off the bullpen.
  3. This is going to be a real test for the Brewers bullpen. Recently they’ve done a better job of maintaining deficits than holding leads.
  4. There’s a bolt out of the blue to break up a 0-0 tie.
  5. So then some modifier like “probably” or “maybe” or “hopefully” would be appropriate, depending on how you feel about it.
  6. They put Bob “Hurricane” Hazle in the Milwaukee Braves Hall of Fame based on barely over 100 ABs in 1957? It was a great story, and I mean no offense to his family, but that seems a little odd. ETA- it was actually the Wall of Honor at Am Fam Field. 1957 was the first season for which I have clear memories of baseball and I remember listening on the radio as he had his historic hot streak when he was called up after a series of injuries.
  7. You’re stating that as a fact. Has it been decided?
  8. You call it deciding what the strike zone is. I call it an occasional human error. And I have seen some of those ump scorecards and it does nothing to change my opinion. And, in case you missed it, I am all in favor of automated balls and strikes if the technology actually works. I’ve seen some complaints that the system being used in the minors is producing a lot more walks. Maybe someone who follows the minor leagues can comment on that.
  9. The umpire is not deciding what the strike zone is. There is no humanly possible way for an umpire looking over the catcher’s shoulder to tell within a fraction of an inch where exactly the ball moving at high speed and with a lot of movement was when it crosses the plate.
  10. It often seems to be too low to me. Some times it looks to be barely at, if not below, the hitter’s waist.
  11. Proving my point. I’m in favor of automated balls and strikes too assuming that they can be made at least as accurate and consistent as the umpires. I just choose not to tie myself in knots crying “Robots” every single game.
  12. You’re assuming that the graphic on TV is a precisely accurate depiction of the strike zone. When a stitch on the ball is barely touching that line it might not really be in the zone.
  13. If you’re talking about that 3-2 pitch, that was far from a clear strike. If that had been called a strike against a Brewer hitter there would have been complaints about that too.
  14. The only reason the Brewers are in “great” shape is that the division is in such terrible shape. Just finishing .500 might be good enough to win it. The problems with the offense aren’t going to be solved by a player like Urias.
  15. Nice to give Williams a little cushion given his long layoff.
  16. Talking about Strzelecki like he’s a lockdown reliever might be a little generous.
  17. I’ve been having trouble finding posts around all of the ads. Losing a ball in the sun to start a Giants rally seems about right.
  18. Easier to blame umpires than to focus on the fact that the Brewers have been stinking up the place for the last couple of weeks.
  19. Unfortunately, this site has become virtually unusable. Between the threads freezing and ads popping up all over the page (including between almost every post) it’s not a good experience.
  20. A pop gun offense and a leaky bullpen are not a good combination.
  21. I’m getting that too. Though it tells me to wait FIVE seconds I get the same results on my iPad and on my desktop.
  22. Not sure what you mean by "click in" but I logged out of the site, logged back in, and went to yesterday's game thread. A note pops up that there are 30+ new replies but when I click on that nothing happens. The last reply that appears relates to Taylor's HR. Maybe it's just that thread or maybe just me.
  23. Is that why yesterday's game thread ended after Taylor's HR? Or is it only me that can't see any replies on the thread after that?
  24. Was the game thread today suspended because of the brutally ugly loss? I came back to it and there is a note about 25+ new replies, but I can't see them.

  25. Was the rest of the game thread deleted due to the brutally ugly nature of this loss? It says there are a bunch of new replies but I can’t see them.
