  1. The Brewers are heading into a real danger zone. Between pitchers who are injured and those who are ineffective the staff is a far cry from what is needed to support the mediocre offense.
  2. I think this is an incorrect and illogical leap. First, I’m not sure anyone thought Middleton’s injury was the ONLY reason the Bucks didn’t make the finals. But, it was reasonable to think that the injury made their path much tougher and might have been the difference in a 7 game series with the Celtics. This is a different year, and I think that with his multiple injuries Middleton is not as much of an impact player as he was even two years ago. Holliday is two years older too and may also be declining. It does look like the window has closed on this collection of players being championship contenders. Even if they recover to win this series (which I don’t expect) they would have trouble with a younger, hungrier Knicks team and would be no match for the Celtics or Sixers.
  3. A dreary but unsurprising defeat. At least it will get lost in the news of the Rodgers trade and the epic Bucks collapse.
  4. Heat in 5, and Giannis injury can’t be used as an excuse. They are just getting their butts kicked.
  5. Jimmy Butler can beat the Bucks single-handedly.
  6. The Bucks just can’t put these guys away. They’re getting into the “choke it away” zone.
  7. I didn’t realize the Tigers had a lockdown bullpen.
  8. Wait until there’s a runner on base later in the game.
  9. The bottom of this order is brutal.
  10. The Tigers scored 3 runs in a weekend in Baltimore and 4 in 5 innings against Rea.
  11. And a reality check on having so many rookies in the everyday lineup.
  12. 3 walks, a single and a HR. Lucky they only got 3 runs. If the Brewers have to send this guy or Junk out every fifth day it’s going to be a tough season.
  13. I did, But they will likely do better against a minor league pitcher and they won’t need much if the Brewers struggle like they usually do against lefties. Im not saying the Tigers will win, I just think they have a significant pitching matchup advantage tonight.
  14. Between the Brewers sad lineup and the minor league pitcher on the mound, the Tigers should be favored tonight.
  15. The way the Brewers have hit against the few lefty starters they have faced this year justifies being uneasy. Having Rea as the starter backed up by a heavily used and struggling bullpen makes me uneasy too.
  16. Some thoughts as the Brewers surrender first place in the division to the Pirates. It’s been a good 3 weeks but there are some signs of problems on the horizon. For one, while the offense has been better than I expected so far, I’m not ready to change my preseason expectation that when the dust settles the offense is going to be near or below league average. There are too many holes in the lineup and signs that the rookies are going to have the expected growing pains. For the Brewers to remain competitive for a playoff spot they need to have elite pitching. They’ve generally gotten it so far, but the injuries to starters are going to take their toll as more starts go to minor league caliber pitchers and the bullpen (which has question marks of its own) has to cover more innings.
  17. Hopefully he has recovered enough to be competent.
  18. It’s nice that Perkins can bunt, but with a runner on second and a lefty at the plate I’d like to see if the hitter can advance the runner by hitting the ball to the right side where he might get a hit instead of just giving up the out. Bunting tells me that they don’t have much confidence in Perkins hitting major league pitching even though he grounded a single to right field last night.
  19. The Brewers could really use a competent lefty in the bullpen to take some of the workload from Milner. He can’t be used every day but it seems like he is needed almost every day.
  20. His command was off in the first inning too.
  21. The Pirates announcers, who are in a tight contest with the Mariners announcers for the most shameless homers in MLB, are going orgasmic over the Bucs’ start to the season.
  22. Now you cheer because they’re wasting one of their throws.
