  1. They treat these guys with kid gloves all season so they won’t be burned out before the season ends, and then he does this.
  2. No kidding. If the Cards knock out LA/SF in the one game play-in I expect a re-structuring of the playoff system immediately. But if the tables were turned and one of us small markets got burned it would just be "That's baseball" “Us small markets”? You certainly can’t be suggesting that the Cardinals and Brewers are in the same category of “small market”. The geographic scope of the Cardinals fan base results in broadcast revenues that far outpace the Brewers’. If the Cardinals are small market, the Brewers are micro market.
  3. Yankees beat Blue Jays and Red Sox lose to Orioles. The Mariners are making a serious run at one of the AL wild card spots.
  4. An amazing turnaround. Cardinals go from a 1.5% chance of making the playoffs on August 5, and 2.8% on September 7 to clinching a spot with 5 games to spare. That tops the Brewers 2019 charge when they went from 5% on September 7 to clinching a spot with 4 games to spare.
  5. The Phillies have to win the next two against the Braves or that race is all but over.
  6. The Cardinals are in one of those stretches where it feels like they can just dial up “on demand” scoring.
  7. For the next few days I’m going to enjoy watching and following the games with playoff implications. Tonight: Phillies @ Braves, Yankees @ Blue Jays, Red Sox @ Orioles, DBacks @ Giants, Padres @ Dodgers.
  8. They clinched on the next to last day so I think the last game was meaningless. Correct.
  9. Yes. Believe that game would be played Monday. With Game 1 of the NLDS not until Friday maybe they would play Game 163 (if necessary) on Wednesday then? The things I have seen have said that a Braves-Phillies playoff game would be played in Philadelphia on Tuesday.
  10. The decision between Peralta and Lauer could depend on the opponent and what the analytics tell them about whether that opponent’s expected lineup is better against lefties or righties. I don’t know if there is any difference like that for the Braves or Phillies, but someone facing the Brewers might pick a LHP over a RHP with a comparable record.
  11. https://imgur.com/a/xLhWQ8I These are SSH prices so the pubic offer will be higher, but not exponentially so. I would count on availability being near zero if not zero. SSH are only allowed to buy 1 game to the WS if they did not purchase the strip. Yeah, the terrace boxes were $60 for 10 pack holders. Based on this you can count on NLCS tickets to be roughly 4 times that and WS to be about 4 times. They will probably not be available at all to non season ticket holders. That leaves the secondary market, and the Bucks finals should be a pretty good indication of what that will be like. I bought 4 full strips of 6 games in 1982 with no season ticket priority at all. The seats were down the line and high in the upper deck. Times have changed since then, and AFF has fewer seats than the old Stadium.
  12. If the Brewers do start accepting orders for World Series tickets, be prepared for the prices to be dramatically higher than for the NLDS and for seat availability to be pretty sparse. The NLDS tickets in the area that I purchased were about twice what the same seats would cost for a regular season game. In the past those prices rose significantly for each succeeding round. For comparison, in 2018 seats in the terrace boxes were $50 for the NLDS and $90 for the NLCS. I forget what the World Series prices were, but I don’t think I qualified to order any because the 10 pack didn’t guarantee anything. You also know that ticket resellers will be that much more active for the NLCS and WS. In terms of atmosphere, I think the earlier rounds may be better than the WS. So many WS tickets go to big shot sponsors and corporate season ticket holders that a lot of the people in the stands are less avid rooters for the home team.
  13. The closest was the second half division title in 1981 that was clinched with a win over the Tigers on the second last day of the season. Because it was the first time the Brewers had qualified for any kind of playoff, being there was exciting.
  14. I would expect the Cardinals to keep pushing until they have mathematically clinched the wild card spot. Their magic number is 1 to eliminate both the Phillies and Reds, so the Cards will be playing to clinch the spot tomorrow. The Phillies can still win their division, but I’m pretty sure the Braves cannot get the wild card spot no matter what happens.
  15. Just like the Padres are preparing for the playoffs because their probability of making them was over 95%. Please let me know your playoff predictions so I can make some money betting the exact opposite! In my opinion your comment violates board guidelines about condescending comments directed at other posters. I’ll let the moderators decide that. I find it pretty sad that this is how you choose to celebrate the Brewers mathematically clinching the division championship, but I’m not going to engage someone who seems to be more interested in trolling other posters than exchanging opinions.

  17. I don't have any interest in seeing the Giants and Dodgers come down to the wire. If there's a Game 163, the Dodgers are going to win. Just let the Giants run away with it and guarantee that one of the Dodgers or Cardinals is going home immediately. Preferably the Dodgers, but the Cardinals would be a nice consolation prize. This is where I am. With a 2 game lead and 6 home games remaining the Giants control their own destiny and can banish the Dodgers to the wild card game. I hope they win out.
  18. The Phillies had a damaging loss to the Pirates today. That puts them 2.5 games behind the Braves with a 3 game series in Atlanta coming up this week. Unless they win at least two of those games they will be all but done with the Braves hosting the Mets next weekend. It would be interesting to see those teams separated by half a game on Sunday so the Braves would have to play the Rockies on Monday then possibly have a game 163 on Tuesday. Make whoever wins that game have to use up a good starter just to get to the NLDS.
  19. I'm trying to figure this out on gameday, what happened? 1st and 2nd one out. Batter hits pop up and infield fly rule called. Arenado falls down. Ball lands fair. Cubs runners not understanding infield fly rule take off. Arenado throws to third but fielder doesn’t realize there’s no force and just steps on bag and throws to second where fielder does same thing. So, runners are safe at second and third, but runner on second thinks he’s out and steps off and is tagged. Umps rule time was called so runner couldn’t be tagged out. So, play continues with runners on second and third and two out. Wild. Happ strikes out to end game.
  20. I'm trying to figure this out on gameday, what happened? I’ll try to explain it when this game is over. It was really crazy.
  21. A play you don’t see very often almost ended the Cubs game and got Schildt ejected. It involved an infield fly rule pop up.
