  1. It’s a bit weird, but they also went 5-1 against the two best teams in the AL Central (Chicago and Cleveland), so I think you just shrug your shoulders and chalk it up to being baseball. Whether it’s “just baseball” or not, I still think it’s strange that 3 decidedly sub .500 teams from one division can account for 9% of the Brewers games played but 18% of their losses. The Royals and Twins have more wins against the Brewers than the Cubs have managed in 13 tries. I think there is a little bit of lack of focus behind some of these losses. Like the sloppy defense in the Royals games and the last Twins series being sandwiched between high profile series against the Reds and Giants. Maybe having Monday and Thursday off prompts the players to mentally take the whole week off, leading to lethargic games on Tuesday and Wednesday.
  2. Sounds a lot like what it was like trying to get tickets for the Ryder Cup when they went on sale two years ago. I was willing to pay what were already high face prices, but having an experience like that soured me on the whole event. At least you aren’t seeing the Brewers tickets being listed on the Brewers official ticket exchange for a couple of times face value while you are still online waiting to move up in the official queue. I think all of the procedures for the Ryder Cup online sale was more of an effort to develop a mailing list of people interested in the event than to sell tickets. Most of them were probably already committed to brokers. The Brewers situation probably just reflects a system that wasn’t prepared to handle the demand.
  3. The Giants did a little bit of celebrating on Monday when they mathematically clinched a playoff spot. But their situation is different because their division race doesn’t figure to be decided for another two weeks, and they might not end up having anything to celebrate on that count. For the Brewers it would look pretty silly to have a locker room champagne celebration one day and then another one for clinching the division the next day when both are foregone conclusions.
  4. Nope, not this year at least. Hopefully just a few more days. I’m still shooting for getting it down to 1 so the game we’re going to Sunday could be the clincher.
  5. I hope we’re focusing on the division race. The division race is really inevitable at this point. I know there is still crazy math out there, but its done. And the Mets just tied it up in the bottom of the 9th. Sure, but for purposes of the magic number I think we should be looking at winning the division. I don’t think we’re going to be seeing any celebrating when they wrap up a wild card berth.
  6. A dreadful night from the offense all around. The bottom 3 teams in the AL Central are the Brewers kryptonite.
  7. Bradley as the ghost runner isn’t the best. He doesn’t seem to have the best base running instincts.
  8. Baez homers in the 9th to tie the Cards.
  9. I hope we’re focusing on the division race.
  10. Cards could be in the lead for the second wild card spot before the night is over. Padres are sending Arrieta against the Giants and Posey took him deep in the first.
  11. Some premature subtractulation here. The magic number to eliminate the Cardinals is still 5.
  12. The Blue Jays torrid hitting didn’t get left behind in Baltimore. Tonight they have 7 runs and 13 hits against the Rays through 5 innings as they continue their late run toward an AL Wild Card berth.
  13. They can only clinch a tie, which I guess is clinching, but to me clinching is the outright win. So they will clinch against either the Cubs or the Cardinals almost certainly. At home. Which is awesome all around. They could clinch if they win the two against the Tigers while the Reds and Cards get swept by the Pirates and Mets. Probably won’t happen. I am still hoping that the magic number will be at 1 when we go to the game against the Cubs next Sunday. That isn’t out of the question: 2 wins by the Brewers and 2 losses by the Reds and Cards gets there. The best case would be the Brewers winning the next 4 while the Reds win their next 5 to improve their Wild Card standing and the Cards lose as many as possible.
