Disappointing. With no Adames and Garcia the lineup against lefties is pretty weak. Cain batting fifth and Pina sixth speaks for itself. Pina and Cain arguably have been their two best best hitters the last few weeks. My point is not that Cain and Pina shouldn’t be in the lineup, but that in a good lineup they should be batting 7th and 8th, not 5th and 6th. Put Adames second and Garcia fourth and you have a much more potent lineup.

Scherzer with another dominant outing, this time 2 hits in 7 innings as the Dodgers beat the Reds.

A lot of drama in the Braves-Giants game last night. D’Arnaud hit a three run HR in the top of the ninth to put the Braves ahead 5 to 4. Giants closer McGee went on the IL earlier in the day, and that bit the Giants immediately. Then Solano hit a home run with two outs in the last of the ninth to tie it and send the game to extra innings. In the 11th, the Giants had the bases loaded with one out and ace pitcher Gausman came up as a pinch-hitter and hit a fly ball that was just deep enough to send Crawford across the plate with the winning run. September baseball involving playoff contenders at its finest.

Sure there is. It allows you to pinch hit Taylor (best RH on bench) in a big spot & still have a speed / defense OF waiting in the wings. If everybody is healthy... Omar, Manny, Rowdy, Kolten, Willy, Eduardo, Luis, Jace, Yelich, Lorenzo, Avisail, Tyrone are 12 locks on offense. Corbin, Woodruff, Peralta, Houser, Lauer, Ashby, Suter, Hader, Devin, Boxberger, Cousins Strickland are 12 locks for pitchers. My guess for last two right now would be Gustave & JBJ with Maile, Vogelbach & Norris on the outside looking in. I think 12 pitchers is enough for a 5 game division series.

An ugly performance, but we’ll take it.
-
Strike 5. Bradley is out.
-
There’s the wild pitch I asked for on the last batter.
-
A wild pitch would look good here. This pitcher looks capable of delivering one.
-
It would be about right for this one to be overturned.
-
Cain finally doesn’t hit the ball hard and it pays off.
-
Peterson continues his rough night both at the plate and in the field.
-
Carlson with an 8th inning slam and the Cards are putting away the Padres 8-2.
-
More mistakes.
-
Was looking for something from the top of the order that inning and got 3 feeble ABs. Running out of innings to turn this around.
-
Not exactly getting maximum advantage out of the scoring chances the last two innings.
-
Reds beat the Dodgers 3-1. Cards lead 4-0.
-
That’s enough for Houser. The defense hasn’t helped him but there’s no helping walks and gopher balls.
-
And just like that the Cubs take the momentum back.
-
Now a base running mistake kills the inning. Cut the lead to one. Now hit the reset button and start playing like a winning team.
-
The Brewers can get dumpy hits too.
-
Have to get at least two more out of this.
-
Hey, a hit. Time to start chipping away.
-
Brewers are going to need one of those 7 run comebacks tonight. They quit playing after Sunday.
