  1. You didn’t misread the post. That was what the Weather Channel was saying about an hour before the game. But a storm was moving in earlier and they put on the tarp before the rain started.
  2. They’re putting the tarp on already, so there’s a good chance there will be no game tonight. Looks like there will be some strong storms with more rain behind them.
  3. No trip to Pittsburgh would be complete without a rain delay or two. Tonight could continue that tradition with a severe thunderstorm watch in effect and heavy thunderstorms predicted for about 9 PM.
  4. I might have the secret to getting Yelich back on track. In the fantasy league I am in we are allowed five keepers per season. I drafted Yelich when he first joined the Brewers in 2018 and have had him as a keeper since then. I knew that I was taking a risk this year that 2020 was a fluke, and that he would return to form this year, but it obviously hasn’t turned out that way and Yelich has been a fantasy bust. I have been reluctant to drop Yelich because I would lose the right to have him as a keeper next year. But, as it becomes more and more apparent that he isn’t going to turn things around this year, and would not be a good choice as a keeper next year, I’m thinking about releasing him now.I suspect he would suddenly become a lot more productive once I let him go.
  5. I don’t think anyone is assuming the worst possible scenario. Just not counting any chickens and recognizing that there are a lot of games left to be played. The next 5 series, which include the first of the 4 series with the Cardinals and the last series with the Reds, could tell us a lot. If the Brewers can keep the lead around 7-9 games their position will still look strong. But, if it slips down to 5 or less, a lot of people are going to be looking more closely at those September schedules and realize that the Reds have a golden opportunity to pile up wins and tighten things up.
  6. The tweet has been deleted. McCalvy said that Lauer will rejoin the team in Pittsburgh today but will not be activated yet. No reason to activate him until they are ready to use him. Maybe they plan to start him tomorrow.
  7. After this weekend, there will be 7 weeks left. So, one way to look at it is that the Reds have to gain a game a week, and the schedule gives them some good opportunities to do that, starting next week when they have a home stand with 7 games against the Cubs and Marlins to set them up for the Brewers series the next week. The week after that the Brewers play 4 in SF while the Reds have a home series against the Tigers. In September the Reds have a 3 game series against the Cubs or Pirates each of the 4 weeks. The Brewers have won their last 9 against the Cubs and 8 of their last 9 against the Pirates. It isn’t hard to imagine the Reds winning 13 or 14 of their 15 games left against those teams. The Brewers have a nice cushion, but there’s a lot of baseball still to be played.
  8. Romine watching Urias’ HR soar out of the park reminded me of Henry Rauengartner in Rookie of the Year.
  9. I wonder if we’re going to hear after the game that Woodruff was a little under the weather and tried to give it a go. As long as it isn’t Covid related, no big problem.
  10. Another play, though where Escobar’s inexperience at first hurts. A veteran 1B probably picks that.
  11. While he cooled off considerably after his hot streak, Peterson has at least shown that he is a useful utility piece on the bench. Until last night and today his last month or so has been pretty ugly.
  12. Playing in this park with the wind blowing out the way it is, a 4 run lead is not safe, I don’t care who you’re playing. The Brewers probably are going to need more than 5 to win, or at least they’d better approach their ABs as if the game were tied.
  13. In limited time, Escobar has shown that you can’t just plug someone in at 1B without having some problems. While his toss there wasn’t horrible, and Woodruff should have handled it, it was behind him and messed up what should have been an easy out.
  14. Is Hendricks throwing anything but high change ups? Or does his fastball just look like a change up? Even Yelich hit one farther than 200 feet.
  15. A pretty typical getaway day lineup. Happily these lineups are better than they were earlier in the year, but it is set up to enhance Woodruff’s status as the low run support leader.
