  1. When I saw the pitching matchups for this series, this game stood out as the one that the Cubs had the best chance to win. The simple reasons are that Hendricks has been known to shut down the Brewers offense, the Brewers never seem to score more than a run or two when Woodruff pitches, and the Brewers lineup may be at less than full strength if Garcia and Tellez both sit out to nurse their injuries and Narvaez gets a day off after a night game.
  2. If Anderson can make his start on turn as expected this weekend, the Brewers rotation should be in good shape for the next two weeks with off days on the two Mondays. If they want, they can easily set up Burnes and Woodruff for the first two games in St. Louis, Burnes, Woodruff, and Peralta for the 3 games against the Reds, Burnes, Woodruff and Peralta for the first 3 games against the Giants, and Burnes and Woodruff for the last two games of the home series against the Cardinals. That would give Burnes and Woodruff 5, 6, 5, and 4 days between their next 3 starts. If things go well in the next 3 weeks, the Brewers will be in great shape heading into September with expanded rosters and more off days.
  3. Braves have had 1 hit since the third inning. A big night from the Reds bullpen. Until Ozzie Albies walks it off.
  4. He looked like he barely swung hard at that one. He’s on a heck of a home run streak lately. His second two run HR of the night.
  5. If nobody answered this, Nats-Mets was not a doubleheader. They finished a game that was suspended yesterday after one inning, and then the regularly scheduled game was rained out.
  6. That would make no sense. He’s warmed up and ready to go and I’m sure they don’t want to use up several relievers that they might need tomorrow, especially if this game is suspended. Plus, if you use several relievers, all it takes is one having a really bad day and suddenly the game is close.
  7. Are you forgetting Applegate’s admonition in “Damn Yankees”? “Never feel sorry for anybody”. Hopefully the Cubs aren’t planning on turning the tables from what happened when they scored 7 in the first.
  8. Pour on as many runs as possible. If the game is halted and can’t be continued tonight it will be suspended, not completely replayed.
  9. This would be a great game for the Brewers to break their recent pattern of slow starts and put up 3-4 runs in the first 3 innings.
  10. The teams managed to play the last 5 innings in a crisp 2:20.
  11. Looks like we’re going to see the tying run at the plate again.
  12. Maybe Suter can pick up the save that he should have had Saturday.
  13. I sometimes forget who all is in the bullpen these days. It changes from one day to the next.
  14. How sweet is it to have a switch hitter with power in the middle of the lineup.
  15. The “problem” of too many outfielders may have just been alleviated.
  16. After using everyone in the bullpen today they might nave to start Burnes tomorrow and hope for a long start from him.
  17. They didn’t have anybody worth anything pitching the first four innings either.
  18. The Mets and Nats had their game called in the second inning and it shows as suspended.
