  1. These new relievers are not making a good impression. Looks like we’re going to learn how Reds fans have been feeling this season.
  2. Ask and ye shall receive (spoiler alert: it's Hiura to the COVID-IL). I wonder if he tested positive or just had some symptoms and they’re playing games with the roster.
  3. It’s just about the time of day when I get a tick whenever I get a notification on my iPad. I’m afraid it will be another announcement of a Brewer going on the COVID list.
  4. With Axford likely headed to the IL, who takes his place until Gustave can come back. Yardley?
  5. Not sure this is a cause for optimism!! In theory, wouldn't it be best if the Brewers finished with the 2nd most wins in the NL? Hypothetically, let the Giants play the winner of the wild card game between LAD and SD, and the Brewers can play the Mets/Braves NL East winner. If the goal is to get to and win the World Series, I would prefer the best record to guarantee the home field advantage for every series. The playoff series aren’t going to be easy no matter who they play. Plus, the wild card winner might have to use up one of its best starters just to win that game
  6. I don’t think a pitcher will be able to pitch more innings in September and October if he sits out the whole month of August than if he pitches an inning or two a week in August. My question right now is the timeline for all of the other pitchers. Getting Cousins, Strickland, and Gustave back, and not losing anyone else, would make the loss of Hader a lot less significant. When you get right down to it, Hader has not had much impact for the last month or so. He hasn’t been used that often and he hasn’t been that effective when he has pitched.
  7. As a rule of thumb, when you take a 6 run lead into the ninth inning it’s not good to see the tying run at the plate. But, it’s a win.
  8. Since Adames first inning HR yesterday, the Brewers have 4 scratch hits and that’s it. Only one that blooped into the outfield.
  9. 10 days is huge when trying to keep a 7 game lead. Thats where the schedule benefits us, 3 of the next 4 series are the pirates and cubs, so lets crush and make it through this It helps to be playing weaker teams, but I wouldn’t assume that losing half of the bullpen isn’t going to make a difference. Even though the Brewers pounded in them in 6 of their last 7 meetings, last week’s Brewers sweep was sandwiched between the Pirates winning 2 of 3 in San Francisco and 2 of 3 over the Pirates. If the Brewers play like they did against the Royals, it won’t be pretty. It’s going to take solid starts and a consistent scoring offense to ride through this.
  10. I understand that nobody has an obligation to disclose whether or not they have been vaccinated. But, Hader declining to answer is going to lead people to make an assumption.
  11. The players all share a locker room and travel together. There’s no reason to assume this will be limited to the bullpen or that this will be the last case. This afternoon when I heard the signal from my phone that I had a notification, I thought “I hope this isn’t more Brewers COVID news” because this was about the time the other announcements were made. No such luck. As long as the impact on the position players stays manageable, the onus is going to be on the offense to get the team through the next couple of weeks. Can’t expect to win too many games like yesterday with the bullpen having to cover 3 or 4 innings with a 1 run lead.
  12. Now that Hader is out too he may be needed sooner than later in high leverage late inning situations. These next two weeks could be very pivotal, both on and off the field. I’d like to think this will be the last case, but it seems like this is making its way methodically through the clubhouse.
  13. I’d love to see Axford come in for an inning with about an 8 run lead. Brewers need the offense to take the pressure off the bullpen this series.
  14. It only felt that way because the Braves were at bat for about 80% of the game. I think the Brewers had seven 1-2-3 innings at bat.
  15. Since the Brewers sweep in Cincinnati the Reds have been basically matching the Brewers win for win. They have literally had the exact same result as the Brewers on the last 10 days both teams have played. I’ll take that for another two months.
  16. The Reds gave Votto a day off after his 7 game HR streak came to an end, and his replacement (some guy named Schmuck or Strock or something) goes 5 for 5 with an HR.
  17. Good thing Hader is well rested from his “inning a week” regimen. Should be able to blow through the ninth easily.
  18. Williams has not been the master of clean innings this year. Playing with fire again.
