  1. There is an above average chance that tonight’s game at Wrigley could be affected by rain. Doubleheaders are not ideal, but in this case the seven inning games could offer a little relief to the Brewers bullpen by removing four innings that would have to be covered to win games.
  2. What’s frightening about these games is that throwing fill in starters with a depleted bullpen behind them really negates the advantage the Brewers would usually have against teams like the Cubs and Pirates. I don’t want to count on giving up 7 runs in the first inning and coming back to win. There’s nothing that can be done about it, but if the Brewers don’t win at least 4 or 5 of these 7 games it will feel like they are using more ground. First of all, our bullpen should start returning to full strength during the Cubs series. Another positive is that it’s normally not possible to give a guy 10 days of rest during August. I think the team will be stronger in Sept and Oct because of this. It’s frustrating we’ve lost 3 of 4 and probably could have won all 4, but so be it. I’m wondering when Cousins, Strickland, and Hader might be back. Counsell said something yesterday that was a confusing because he said Hader might be back “this week” and the other two later “next week”. That surprised me because Hader’s positive test was announced after the other two. He might have meant this week and next week to both be the upcoming week. The good news is that he said they were all doing well. It will still be at least the Cardinals series before Lauer and Hauser will be ready.
  3. Before the Covid issues hit, it looked like the Brewers were perfectly set up to have Burnes, Woodruff, and Peralta pitch against the Cardinals and Reds while still giving starts or stacked starts to Anderson, Hauser, and Lauer and keeping the other 3 on a reasonably regular routine. That might not be possible anymore without giving too many starts to emergency starters.
  4. That advantage obviously doesn’t start until next week. If the Brewers can avoid losing ground this weekend I would consider that a win. Agree. Just mostly thinking big picture, trying to avoid the day-by-day emotion swing. I don’t have problems with day to day emotion swings. I’m always mad.
  5. Tracking the blocks of 26 games described in the first post, the Reds are off to a quick start. They go 4-0 against the Pirates to the Brewers 3-3 against the Pirates and Giants to knock 2 games off the Brewers lead.
  6. And the Brewers get to play these guys 4 more times on the road. I’d rather be playing the Marlins.
  7. How long after was the knee cap? I think that’s more to do than anything. Darvish's comments came that November. Right now I believe him, although I can't prove it. If it was his knee cap, more would be made of it than what is, which is nothing. Injuries do heal. Was Yelich supposed to be getting tipped off on the road too?
  8. The obligatory lead off walk. I’ve heard rumors that Brandon Belt doesn’t hit a HR in every other at bat, but there is no evidence of that in this series.
  9. Crossing fingers that that is it. They need him for his next. One emergency replacement is enough for one week.
  10. The Brewers offense is going to have to step it up if they are going to survive this COVID surge without losing a significant part of their lead. In the last 4 games against teams not named Pirates they have only managed 1, 2, 1, and 2 runs through 9 innings. They were able to win two of those games with strong starts and strong outing from the top of the line relievers. But, those relievers cannot be available every night, and some games with fill in starters are coming up. As shown by the Brewers in their recent series in Pittsburgh, and by the Reds in their current series, the Brewers totals of 6, 5, and 4 in this week’s series against the Pirates were not very impressive either.
  11. This has nothing to do with a short bullpen much less "directly related." That is patently false. They could have won the game if Garcia hadn’t misplayed the fly ball, but even that situation would not have come up if the Brewers had the bullpen they thought they had just 8 days ago. Maybe they would have lost anyway with everyone in their regular roles, but when you have to go into the late innings and extra innings with guys who probably wouldn’t be on the roster except for the Covid issues, the short bulletin has a lot to do with the outcome.
  12. Just about time for the daily Covid report. Same lineup as last night except that Pina is catching and batting 8th, so last night’s 4-8 all move up a slot.
  13. For those of us who haven’t been on this board for decades, what is the inside joke behind WOAH SOLVDD? viewtopic.php?f=82&t=6641 That doesn’t explain anything. Was this just a goofy typo that some have managed to keep as a joke for almost 20 years?

  15. It isn’t ideal, but at what point do they start postponing games?
  16. He’s done everything he can with what he has to work with, but it’s going to get a lot tougher with 10 games in 10 days and only 4 starters available for now. Boxberger has been used in all 4 of the wins this week and Williams has been in 3. They can’t be doing that every day, so the offense is going to have to produce more. Hopefully they can do that against the Cubs and Pirates, and somebody in the bullpen other than Suter, Williams, and Boxberger can fill some innings. Presumably both Strickland and Cousins will return in a few days (hopefully by the middle of next week at the latest). That 10 days is the minimum, so that would take them, I think, to Tuesday. But, who knows if they will cleared then and, when they are cleared, how long it will take them to be game ready after being holed up in the house for 10 days.
