  1. It would help if Vogelbach could lay off the pitches head high and above. Could have had a leadoff runner.
  2. The Brewers made some progress by beating up on bad teams (taking care of business), but the Reds have put themselves in the thick of the race by not just sweeping the Rockies, but also sweeping a road series against the Cardinals and taking (on the verge of sweeping) the Brewers. Now that Castillo is back in form, and Gutierrez looks like a solid starter, the Reds have a good starting rotation to go with a solid batting order. Barring a significant improvement in the Brewers offense, I have a hard time seeing the Brewers finishing ahead of the Reds.
  3. And that’s it. You can tell Peralta is reaching the end of the line when he starts missing badly as his mechanics break down. Hard to win when you know you can’t afford to give up a run.
  4. Starting the bottom of the 6th in the number 5 spot. Next chance to consider a run will come in the last of the 8th.
  5. 1st and second with none out and then up comes the Bermuda Triangle of the batting order.
  6. Mahle couldn’t send Garcia to the IL with one pitch to the hand so he decided to take another crack at it. I hope Garcia is OK. That’s the kind of shot on which a guy stays in the game to run but then is replaced in the field as they go for X Rays.
  7. Did Castellanos forget who was running and concede that run?
  8. Do you really want to go back and compare this year’s lineup to 2018 and make the argument that this team isn’t significantly worse? Let’s open with 2018 Yelich vs 2021 Yelich. Then do the same with Cain and Shaw. Then compare Aguilar and Vogelbach. Now, tell me who in the 2018 lineup was as much below league average as Bradley, Peterson, Robertson, Pina, et al. It’s one thing to be below league average and something else to be the absolute worst hitter in MLB.
  9. First and third with none out and the number 3 hitter up, then bases loaded with one out and the number 5 hitter up would usually be considered a good scoring opportunity. But, not with this team.
  10. Watch, they're gonna score like 7 runs today. Are you taking bets?
  11. That approach is likely to be more successful when you have a roster full of major league players to plug in when you give someone a day off, and several productive hitters in your everyday lineup. This team has neither of those things. It’s tough when your pitchers have to shut down one of the best scoring teams in the league just to have a chance and, as we saw last night, even that may not be good enough.
  12. And Pina batting fifth. Counsell is obviously taking a long view and isn’t concerned about getting swept by a team charging up on them in the division race. I expected Narvaez to get the day off, but taking out Adames too removes two of the better hitters from a lineup that is weak on its best days. Over-under on runs today? 0.5?
  13. What a disgusting way to lose. Now they go into tomorrow with the back end of the bullpen in bad shape and another tough pitcher in the mound.
  14. Unless he can’t get a read on the pitcher I’m really surprised Yelich isn’t trying to steal. This lineup isn’t going to string together hits and is going to have a hard time scoring in the 10th even with the free runner.
  15. Unless it’s just how weak the Brewers offense is, throw in Gutierrez and the Reds are going to be serious contenders in this division.
  16. Ten consecutive innings without a hit for the Brewers going back to last night, I believe. It was nine when I first posted that and it’s now 11.
