  1. In so many ways that was a poorly played game by both teams, but the net result was a sweet victory.
  2. I’ll be there tonight too. I wish the Brewers weren’t starting this series with two back end starters against two of the Reds best. The Brewers haven’t had much success against the Reds starters this season, except for the one outing in May against Castillo when he was struggling against everyone. It’s going to be critical for Houser tonight and Lauer tomorrow to keep the Brewers in the game early by keeping the Reds big hitters in check. They have each failed to do that once already this year.
  3. Brewers opponents seem to have better luck with emergency spot starters than the Brewers do with guys like Bettinger and Ashby.
  4. The way baseball is played these days, a rate of 1 strikeout per inning is relatively low for a relief pitcher. And a runner on second with nobody out is a situation in which a strikeout has much greater value than it does with the bases empty. So who was the obvious better option that strikes out way more people? That wasn’t my point. I was expressing an opinion that a runner on second with nobody out and Suter on the mound and the heart of the Mets order coming up was likely to produce a run. So, I was hoping it wouldn’t be worse than that. I can’t control the fact that my throwaway comment that I was hoping for a tie rubbed some people the wrong way. I guess in the future I have to provide more explanation or stick with the approved complaint of “I have a bad feeling about this”. My biggest criticism of what Counsell did today was bringing Williams in for one batter in the 6th instead of using Hader for a potential 4 out save. That took one of the pitchers who I would rather have seen in the 8th out of consideration after facing just one batter. If there was ever a clearer signal from Counsell that he is never, ever, under any circumstances going to use Hader for a 4 out save, this was it. I’m not sure if any other top closers are used this selectively, but I know that the 3 on my fantasy team (Diaz, Barnes, and Presley) are not used this way.

  6. So, you don’t see the difference between hoping for a tie and expecting defeat? Why the heck do you care how anyone else expresses himself during a game?
  7. Congratulations for being right? I still don't understand the need to be blatantly pessimistic but you do you. I don’t consider it pessimistic to hope to get out of an inning with a tie when the opponent has a runner in second with nobody out and a soft tossing, low strikeout pitcher is on the mound. I don’t understand the need for the self righteous, self proclaimed “better fans” to get bent out of shape when people vent. But, I guess, you do you.
  8. Yeah, our WE dropped to 17% with the bases loaded and no outs... ties would have been real good What is it to start the inning with a runner on second and no out? Can’t be much higher than 50%.
  9. This quickly went from what would have been one of the sweetest wins of the season to one of the most bitter defeats.
  10. I mean exactly what I said. A non strikeout pitcher facing the middle of the order with a runner in second and nobody out is not a promising situation.
  11. That hurts to swing at two balls out of the strike zone against a pitcher having trouble throwing strikes. I’m hoping that Suter can get out of the 8th with a tie.
  12. Remember when you would be excited to see Yelich up in this spot? Now I’m hoping he can draw a walk. ETA or get hit by a pitch.
  13. And now if this goes to extra innings the Mets will have the top of their bullpen locked and loaded.
  14. How is using Hader for the first time in over a week “blowing out your pen”? I think a lot of the disagreement with some of these moves is the unwavering use of some pitchers in certain innings regardless of the situation, including where in the order the opponent is and who the hitters are.
  15. The best in the game doesn’t. He relies on more than one arm to get the job done. Then bring in Hader to get the lefty and use Williams in the 7th.
  16. With a lefty at the plate I would rather see Hader here and hope for the K. With Williams there’s a much higher chance is a ball in play that would give up the lead.
  17. Williams hasn’t been idle as long as Hader, but if either of them is called on today I hope they aren’t as rusty as Diaz was on Monday. They won’t have the luxury of a cushion like Diaz had.
  18. He deserves to stay in the lineup somewhere with the way he’s been hitting lately. I never worry much about where to play a guy because something almost always seems to open up.
