  1. Every time you start to think Yelich might be coming around you get stark reminders that he isn’t. Two really ugly K’s tonight.
  2. As much as I think Yelich is going to bounce back to form in the near future, right now I would take Winker by a country mile over Yelich. Winker is an mvp candidate while Yelich is currently mediocre at best when healthy. Agree on that. Urias better than India is not supported by results either, especially if you look at the last month or so.
  3. Then they’d have to pitch around Castellanos too and pitch to Votto and Suarez with two men on base.
  4. It isn’t close. The Reds have 3 hitters in their starting lineup tonight (Winker, Castellanos, and India) who have been blistering hot the last couple of weeks, and Suarez has found the HR stroke recently even though his average remains low.Plus, Votto is back in the lineup tonight and, unless he’s rusty from his layoff, that’s another dangerous bat in the middle of the order. The Brewers only have a few hitters who have been less frigid than the others and have hit a few HRs. The Brewers aren’t going to be beating the Reds 2-1 with Hauser and Anderson on the mound, so it’s essential that they get 3-4 runs in the early innings (presumably on HRs), keep pace through the middle innings, and try to win it with the bullpens. I’ll feel better if and when the Brewers get one win in this series, because the pitching and batting matchups in the first two games are pretty brutal. Games like that second Tigers game are a definite possibility in the GABP launching pad.
  5. This is always one of those things fans don’t know. If any of the usual relievers are unavailable it’s going to affect the moves the managers make. Given the workloads the last few days you have to wonder if they are trying to avoid one or more of Boxberger, Williams, and Hader.
  6. This decision by Counsell could be questioned. If Burnes is going to come out if he puts a man on base he might regret not using a PH there. On the other hand, Burnes on 100 pitches may be a better option than anyone in the bullpen, especially there are guys they want to hold out today.
  7. Need a hit here to get 2 runs in. Otherwise having Burnes standing in the 90 degree sunlight could be a negative.
  8. The announcers really insult the viewers when they make comments to the effect that Hiura has had some good ABs and just needs to see a ball fall in. If he got a hit on every ball he hit hard his average would be closer to .150 than the .120 it’s at now.
  9. I like the enthusiasm, but I cringe when I see some of those leaping high fives. All we need is for someone to get hurt doing that.
  10. I’m seeing another example of why I think the Brewers would be great in 7 inning games. That bridge between the starters and Hader has been hard to fill.
  11. That butt down, feet in the air slide already has cost the Brewers a run in a replay in a previous game, and it could have really been costly there.
  12. A lot of guys would look good there. We're last in Wins Above Avg at 1B Would it be accurate to say they’re first in Wins Below Average?
  13. If Arizona has a bad lineup, what does that make ours? I shutter to think. The DBacks are scoring right at the league average of 4.34 runs per game, so I wouldn’t say they have a bad lineup.
  14. Woodruff was due for a bad outing. Hopefully he can minimize the damage and keep the team in the game, but the pitches are piling up. Probably won’t be going more than 5 today.
  15. He’ll always be Larry on Groundhog Day to me. Also Lily’s father and the founder of Aldrin Games on How I Met Your Mother.
  16. It’s always unsettling to see the first batter hit a HR, but it’s especially bad when you wonder if that will be enough to win.
  17. The data above and the title of the thread answer the question of whether a team can have more than one rivalry. The question asked is “Who are the Brewers RIVALS”?, clearly indicating that a team can have more than one rival. The chart above asks the question “Who is the Cubs BIGGEST Rival?” again indicating that a team can have more than one rival, but some are bigger than others. My post above reflects that. The fact that as many as 7% of Cubs fans would say that the Brewers are the Cubs BIGGEST rival, actually surprises me.
  18. My goal for Yelich is for him to return to what he was for the first half of 2018. People seem to forget that at the All Star break, Yelich was having merely an excellent season, but nothing even close to the unworldly performance of the second half that propelled him to the MVP. I remember driving home from the second last game of the 2018 season when Yelich hit 2 HRs to lead the Brewers to a 6-5 win over the Tigers and a tie for first with the Cubs, who had lost earlier that day. I told my daughters that I hope they are enjoying this because they might not ever see anything like it again. I did not expect him to start 2019 like it was the second half of 2018 all over again, and he wasn’t maintaining that torrid pace when he went down with the kneecap injury. Even without the injury I expected that 2018 and 2019 were going to be the best two years of Yelich’s career. But I didn’t expect the dramatic drop off that we’ve see. I just want the guy who can consistently drive the ball to all fields and hit like 25 HRs. It doesn’t have to be the guy that hits 40 plus HRs while winning batting titles. I don think that’s realistic.
  19. If the standard is that there can only be a rivalry if fans of both teams consider the other team to be their biggest rival, then the Brewers don’t have a rival. But, I don’t buy that definition. I think the Cubs are by far the Brewers biggest rival these days, mainly because of the numbers of Cubs fans who come here when the Cubs play and how too many of them behave when they’re here. Plus, starting in 2007, the Brewers and Cubs have been involved in several division races together. The Cardinals are in a similar position. As a group their fans are less obnoxious when they come here, but the arrogance of the organization and some of their players about “The Cardinal Way” is annoying, and some of the spats with LaRussa, Molina, et al, have added fuel to the rivalry. I would put it at Cubs 70%, Cardinals 25%, and 5% for teams that may have a special place for smaller segments of the fan base, like people who live farther north and west and have a lot of interaction with fans of the Twins, who the Brewers still play every year.
  20. Great result tonight. Get the win without having to use Williams or Hader. I’m sure Counsell ie relieved that he didn’t have to decide whether to push Peralta over the 120 pitch mark. Now it’s less likely that we’ll be talking a few weeks from now about how tonight’s game messed Peralta up. With an off day on Monday I assume he’ll be getting 5 days of rest again before his next start.
