  1. I guess I’m in the minority on bringing in Williams there. Peralta is a strike out pitcher himself and if he can get out of that inning with just 1 run (or even 2) it isn’t so bad and you’ve got a pitcher who should be able to go multiple innings in the game. It all comes back to having such a horrible offense that you have to feel like you’re out of the game trailing 1 or 2 to nothing. Second and third with nobody out and scoring just one run (but feeling lucky to get that) says a lot about this offense.
  2. Anderson giving up a lot of hard hit balls to the outfield. Not a good sign.
  3. So, here we go. I can tell that, though I want the Brewers to win, a loss isn’t going to crush me, unless I suppose they really blow it. If it’s just another game that they lose by falling behind early and never threatening I’ll brush it aside pretty easily. This is so different than games 162 and 163 in 2018 when I was a nervous wreck.

  5. It is very hard for anyone who has followed every game not to expect that the most likely outcome today is another one of those games in which the Brewers fall behind early while generating almost no offense and go down to a dreary defeat by a score like 4-0. But, at least they have a chance, including the possibility that the Giants and Phillies will both lose.
  6. Woodruff’s outing today was as dominant as his game against the Phillies last year when he went 8 innings without ever having to pitch with a man on base. He was perfect exact for a harmless solo HR with a big lead. He even contributed with the bat that day.
  7. The Cardinals would have the tiebreaker over the Giants (intradivision record) if they both finish with 29 wins. The Cardinals will only play the doubleheader versus the Tigers if it decides who MAKES the playoffs. If only seeding within the playoff field could be affected than they will base seeding off of winning percentage and the Cardinals won’t have to travel to Detroit. I think that would put the Brewers ahead of the Cardinals in a 2 way tie, but behind them in the last spot in a 3 or 4 way tie because I think the Reds, Marlins, and Cardinals would all be 21-19 to the Brewers 20-20.
  8. If the Brewers end up 30-30, the Cardinals at 29-29, and the Giants at 29-31, I wonder if they would have the Cards play the Tigers or just award the seeds based on the tiebreakers. The Reds and Marlins could also end up at 30-30 with losses tomorrow. By my count, the Giants would lose the tiebreaker to the Cardinals and would have no chance to make the playoffs. I wonder if the Cardinals would rather forfeit than to have to go to Detroit just to try to get a higher seed with a sweep.
  9. They still need a Giant loss, do they not? Yes, still need one Giants loss between either tonight or tomorrow. If the Giants win both the Brewers would have to wait to see how the Cardinals-Giants doubleheader goes. This is all assuming the Brewers win tomorrow. It’s the Cardinals and Tigers who would play a DH. I think what I must have heard earlier today is that if the Brewers won both games they couldn’t be eliminated tomorrow because at worst they could beat out the Cardinals (6-4 head to head) if the Cardinals lose one of two to the Tigers. I’m pretty sure that if the Brewers and Giants end up tied at 30-30, the Brewers would win the tiebreaker because they would be 20-20 in the Central and the Giants 19-21 in the a West. The Padres could do the Brewers a favor by holding on to their current 3-0 lead over the Giants.
  10. The Phillies loss guarantees that the Brewers will make the playoffs with a win tomorrow. ETA- at least I thought I heard that.
  11. Perfect example of why Yelich’s BABIP is low. He’s hit about 150 of those weak grounders this year when he makes contact at all.
  12. They’re talking to Yelich about BABIP. Anyone who has watched him all season would know that he hasn’t been hitting in bad luck. A lot of his batted balls have been weak grounders to the right side. Not all balls in play are created equal.
  13. Looks like the telecast will not be on Fox for at least a half hour while this marathon college football game drags on. Have to see if it will be on FS1 of FS2. ETA: Looks like in Milwaukee we will be switched to the Brewers.
  14. Giants just went up 5-3 on Padres with 3 run HR off Pomerantz. Brewers path to playoffs is getting down to win the last two and hope for help.
  15. Giants win their first over the Padres. The noose is tightening.
  16. They’re getting upset about walking Wieters, but how many hits did he get against the Brewers last week? The bottom line is not that he gave up a walk, but that he is getting hammered when he throws anything near the plate.
  17. Good thing the Brewers went all out to win Game 1. Not going to be in this one.
  18. Yeah I feel like this has been Counsell's MO before. Get the win and don't worry about the next game. I wish he had felt that way in Game 4 of the NLCS when he chose to let Junior Guerra pitch to Cody Bellinger rather than a relief pitcher with 2 out and a man in scoring position with everything on the line. In a game where you score 1 run in 13 innings and burn up a lot of pitchers to get there it’s hard to get too worked up about how the bullpen is used. Who would their other options have been?
