  1. You could probably place a rain barrel in right field and catch most of Shaw’s pop ups.
  2. Marlins really screwed the Brewers over on that Yelich deal. Diaz is unstoppable.
  3. Anderson may have to be lifted on pitch count before he makes it twice through the order.
  4. Mets beat DBacks and Phillies lose so a chance to pick up a game in some of the WC competition. But who’s going to get 9 outs with no Hader, I assume. This is where Nelson’s failure yesterday hurts.
  5. They brought in Braun to PH against the lefty and then the Marlins brought in the righty. So we used up Braun really early, and Thames is out of the game and we got nothing in return? I'd have still went with Thames there and saved Braun for later in the game. tinker-tinker-tinker You can debate the decision, but with the bases loaded and one out it’s an opportunity for a big inning. At least it produced one run.
  6. This is the danger of “bullpenning” with a questionable bullpen. All it takes is a lousy outing from one of the 6 or 7 relievers you plan to use to screw up the whole game.
  7. They brought in Braun to PH against the lefty and then the Marlins brought in the righty.
  8. Either way, I think it is a heck of a ride. With all the injuries and other problems, the Crew has done very well. If it's playoffs, awesome, if not, there is next year - especially if they bring back Moose and Yaz. I don’t consider this season a heck of a ride given the reasonable expectations before the season started. The fact that they are still in the discussion for a playoff spot with a record only 6 games over .500 is making the end of the season more interesting. But I know I enjoyed seasons like 1978, 1979, and 1987 more than this year because the Brewers had very good teams that won over 90 games, even though the “no wild card” era meant that wouldn’t be good enough to make the playoffs in a strong division. The next challenge will be seeing if the Brewers can get through this week or road games without losing ground. Even with the expanded rosters this stretch of 18 games Could strain the pitchers you really want to see in close games. It’s too bad they had to drag Hader in to nail down today’s game.
  9. So, the Brewers get at least a few more days of “meaningful games in September”. The longer they can keep that going the better. One of the fun things about this for me is that I’m not feeling the anxiety that I have when I think the Brewers should be making the playoffs but look like they might blow it. Remember 2008 when they had a 5 game lead for the wild card around Labor Day, then went through the swoon that led to Yost’s firing, and needed some choking by the Mets to get the spot. I might also find out how I really feel about the second wild card spot. Since they first added the second WC spot I have always thought that getting that wouldn’t really feel like being in the playoffs unless you won the WC game. The team would be in and out of the playoffs in a day without even having a home playoff game. I know last year I wasn’t going to be satisfied until they clinched at least the first wild card spot. As it turned out they did that on the same day they clinched a playoff berth with the win over the Cardinals. I’m still skeptical that this patchwork lineup and pitching staff can bring this home. But the Cubs are really leaking oil with some of their injuries and they have those 7 games with the Cardinals to deal with. If the Brewers can’t get the WC, the Cubs not getting it would be the next best thing.
  10. What a butcher play by Schwarber. Playing so deep he should have seen he wasn’t going to get there. Just play it off the wall and try to keep the run from scoring. There’s no way he was going to catch it.
  11. If Knebel and Bobby Wahl can come back healthy next year, between them and Black the Brewers would have some fireballing candidates for the bullpen. I have my doubts about whether Knebel will be back in the same form as the one that finished last year.
  12. They just said the Mets beat the Phillies on a walk off HR by Pete Alonzo. It was actually a walk off walk.
  13. Love the leadoff walk to a guy who hasn’t had a hit in a week. Love the DP more.
  14. And I’ve been around long enough to ignore chronic second guessers.
  15. Yelich didn’t get the call this time.
  16. At which point the screams of "left him in X batters too long again", start to rain down. Every. Time. Some people will second guess no matter what happens. But I said before the inning that I would give Davies two baserunners in the sixth. And I guarantee I would not be saying “left him in too long” if he had put the first two hitters in base.
  17. The way he has pitched the last couple innings, and with a 4 run lead, I would give Davies two baserunners in the sixth before taking him out. Why not at least try to avoid needing the bullpen to cover 4 innings.
  18. Wow, that was a majestic blow from Grandal.
  19. What do you mean gets a call? GameDay had it clearly as a ball It looked pretty close, but if you remember Monday’s game you’d really know why I said that. Being in the strike zone has not been a requirement for Yelich to be punched out.
  20. Yelich gets a call on 2-2 and makes them pay.
