  1. 100%agree with this... who is your top 4, in order? Grandal Yelich Hiura Moose Braun Thames Cain has looked better the last week or so and Grandal has been slumping. I’d just keep Cain at the top for now.
  2. Pretty much dominated a really solid, hot lineup tonight. Pretty scary turning it over to the pen here. Do they go to Hader for two innings tonight? They can't keep doing that, can they? I mean, you need your closer to have more availability. I am against the 2-innings they’ve been trying to do. I just would rather have more appearances. They’re not going to be able to put together the kind of winning stretch they would need at some point to be in playoff contention (like winning 8 out of 10) without winning some games without Hader pitching at all, much less two innings.
  3. Brewers are on the verge of picking up their first 9 inning win by more than two runs since June 9. Not only have the wins been few and far between but each one has been a grind.
  4. Is it being too negative to say that seeing Jeffress enter a game in the 7th inning doesn’t give me a warm, fuzzy feeling.
  5. I suspect 99.9% of the message boards in sports are the same way. Pretty much Human Nature. They absolutely are. As I said yesterday, people who think Brewer fans and posters on this board are the most pessimistic in the world have never lived anywhere else or visited other message boards. Try living around Philadelphia or New York sometime. At Saturday’s Brewer game there were four guys sitting behind us who were Astros fans. One guy was in his phone the whole night and was basically providing a play by play of the Astros game to the rest of the group. One time after a guy got thrown out trying to stretch a single to a double, and then Bregman hit a HR, they were ******** about the wasted run and how bad the Astros are fundamentally. One guy said that, injuries or not, the Astros have played lousy baseball for the last month. This is for a team that has been in the playoffs like 4 years in a row, won a World Series, and is has a commanding lead in their division despite missing Altuve, Correa, Springer, and who knows who else for extended periods of time. I felt so sorry for their suffering.
  6. Seeing how Woodruff looks compared to two years ago I find myself fantasizing that maybe Peralta and Burnes can be like that when they’re 26.
  7. He has like 7 hits a home run and several walks since the All Star break. Sure he's not going deep every night but he's still been pretty damn good He’s such a good hitter than even when he’s “slumping” he can pick up some hits. But when you see him every day he’s not hitting at all like he does when he’s going good, and I’m sure he would say the same thing. A lot of his recent hits have been on grounders through the middle and not the shots in the gap that produce the home runs and extra base hits.
  8. Just as I posted the message above, another example of Yelich being off balance with his swing in ways he never is when he’s in a good groove.
  9. I am not worried about him, but after a calendar year of near superhuman production he is clearly not swinging or seeing the ball well. He’s swinging and missing a lot and seems off balance on a lot of his swings. Don’t know if it’s just a slump or if his back problems are a factor. 50 HR for him should never have been a given because his pace was unsustainable and the AS break is significantly beyond the actual halfway point of the season. I really don’t care about Yelich winning the HR title or any other individual honor, but the Brewers could really use him to get hot again if they have any hope of going on a hot streak to stay in playoff contention. BTW, on grammar, in that last sentence it should be “I just saw”.
  10. One of my favorite players. I miss having him on my fantasy team. One of the most solid hitters in MLB year in and year out.
  11. I also heard that, in addition to the rest, starting Woodruff Tuesday sets him up to get starts in upcoming series against the Cubs and Cardinals.
  12. Anyone who thinks Brewers fans or people on this forum are the biggest pessimists in baseball has obviously never paid attention to fans or message boards for other teams. And that includes fans of teams who have won at least one World Series in their lifetimes and made multiple playoff appearances in the last 10-15 years.
  13. Um, good for you? Sorry, just not sure what you're trying to accomplish with this post? Do you want all other posters to agree with you that the Brewers are done? Cause that may be coming, but I'm just not there yet. Just venting. This is very quickly becoming the most disappointing season, based on performance vs realistic expectations, in my 50 years of following the Brewers.
  14. I’m glad I wasn’t home today to watch the Giants join the Marlins, Mariners, and Padres on the list of teams that have embarrassed the Brewers as they continue their descent to and below .500. Because my daughter who lives in Florida wants to see one more Brewer game before she heads back I’m going to sacrifice my perfect record for the season tomorrow to see the Brewers whacked around by the first winning team they’ve played in over a month. Because I sold my tickets for a gamemin the Cubs series for 3 times face value I have a nice pot of cash to spend on food seats for tomorrow. By the time we go to another game in August there should be no pretense of this team being a playoff contender.
  15. The Brewers got their win for the series in my presence last night. Asking for two wins in one 3 game series is just plain greedy.
  16. I think the point was that he's not nearly a top 20% outfielder. He's been solid, worth putting on the field, and not a liability, but he's not a top 20% OF'er, and whether or not the money is already spent, really not worth his contract (as guys over 35 almost never are). It's valid to point out that his production (while solid) doesn't match his pay. The Brewers are in a position, and probably always will be where they shouldn't be paying guys in their late 30's this kind of money. Given the contracts players are getting these days, if you aren’t willing to pay players some big money in their mid to late 30’s you probably aren’t going to have them in their prime years. Like it or not you have to look at much of that money as deferred payment for earlier production.
  17. I think the concerning thing is that Counsell bringing Hader in in the 8th inning of a 1 run game against the Giants says pretty clearly that Counsell has no confidence in anyone else in the bullpen to hold a lead. The bullpen was fresh after the break and the game was not against a playoff contending rival, and yet Counsell was unwilling to put in someone else in the setup role. Instead he puts in Hader when, at best if he closes out the game, he will probably be unavailable for the rest of the series. The Brewers aren’t going to be able to put together the kind of winning run they need if they can only win a close game if Hader pitches two innings. And Counsell seems to think that’s the case.
  18. This was one of my biggest beefs of the night. Why feel like you have to bring in Claudio to face a mediocre lefty who is going to be pinch hit for, leaving yourself with Claudio facing two righties? I would have taken my chances with Guerra facing the mediocre lefty.
  19. Just got home from the game which miraculously brought my season record to 9-0. You know a team is going bad when even the wins don’t make you feel that good. I was in a sour mood after the first hitter of the game when Aguilar went after the grounder for no good reason and opened the door for an unearned run. I don’t need to list all of the other aggravating things that happened as I’m sure they were raised as the game unfolded. There have been articles this week about MLB having a home run problem because so much of the game is home runs and strikeouts. I don’t necessarily disagree, but as a fan who attends about 15 games a year and follows hundreds of others on TV, the length of games is a much bigger problem. A poorly played game like tonight’s going 4 hours for just 9 innings is not great entertainment.
  20. Yuck. I expected Pina against the lefty with the day game tomorrow, but Saladino is an automatic K.
  21. I will be putting my 8-0 record on the line tonight as the Brewers try to get the salvage win for the series without waiting until Sunday. The Brewers haven’t done well against lefties and have won very few games recently without Hader, so the streak is in jeopardy.
