  1. You’re backpedaling pretty far from your original statement. Sounds like you now agree that it isn’t NEVER or ALMOST ALWAYS but that it depends very heavily on the circumstances and the players involved. That should include what hitters are coming up for the opponent.
  2. Maybe it’s done that way because maybe after throwing 14 high leverage pitches in the 8th inning, that pitcher might not be as effective after sitting down and throwing more. Or maybe the closer is generally a better and more reliable pitcher coming in fresh? Do you think the Padres made a mistake tonight bringing in Miller after Adam got through the 8th on 13 pitches?
  3. Just think about how absurd that comment is. What you are saying is that if a team has an effective set up man and an effective closer, the closer should NEVER be brought in if the setup man gets through the 8th inning with only 14 pitches.
  4. They won 2 low scoring games against the Yankees with near perfect bullpen performances, and scored a winning run against the Yankees closer. Score 1 or 2 runs in a game and you’re going to lose some, even with late leads .
  5. Would help if the offense could score more than one run. If Ashby had stayed in and given up a HR to one of the RH hitters everyone would have said Uribe should have been in.
  6. I can’t say that I have reached that level of confidence in Patrick,, Sproat, or Henderson. Harrison is closer but I’m not sure he’s quite there yet either. The potential might be there, but not quite enough track record yet.
  7. That bunt by Hamilton should be scored a fielders choice As in, the fielder chose to do something stupid.
  8. The biggest mystery in the Padres lineup is Tatis with an OPS in the .600s and no home runs. He is due to break out but hopefully not this week. I have him on a fantasy team and have him on the bench, even though he is now also qualified at 2B. Ozzie Albies has been much more productive. Maybe I should put Tatis in the lineup tonight to guarantee an O-fer.
  9. I would like to see Vaughn in the lineup with Bauers at least occasionally against RHP. The bottom four of Mitchell, Frelick, Hamilton, and Ortiz is pretty uninspiring, and getting Vaughn in there would make it look a little better.
  10. I can’t explain it other than to say that it’s always been that way, and there isn’t any other clear candidate. Maybe the thinking when that rule was first adopted was that the batter shouldn’t be penalized if a runner gets in the way. Of his batted ball, And maybe in the old days infielders played in closer than they do now so most balls that hit runners were headed for the outfield.
  11. Just when I was starting to wonder how they were going to get through the 10th.
  12. Better win it now with the Yankees big guns coming up in the 10th.
  13. Bases loaded. Need a few dunky hits like against Fried on Friday night.
  14. Henderson isn’t going to last long. He’s throwing a lot of pitches and they are getting some good cuts and making good contact.
  15. Of course, Black is not on this list, but I’m still not convinced that he is likely to be a positive contributor. I realize that my opinion is based on an eye test drawn from a relatively small sample of PA’s. But, my impression is that a disproportionate portion of his successful AB’s have come in the lopsided wins against lower tier pitchers, or pitchers who are having bad games who are being hit by everyone. He looked completely overmatched with defensive swings last night. its a vicious circle, and maybe he needs more ABs to show he’s more than a replacement level player. Even against a RHP I’d rather see those ABs going to Vaughn.
  16. I was at the game and I said as soon as he made the move to run for Vaughn that I didn’t like it. I wanted to see him in the lineup to bat in the ninth when that spot came around again. I also wanted to see Vaughn in the lineup as DH in the first place. I waited :6 weeks to see some of the team’s better hitters return, and instead saw Black totally overmatched against a quality pitcher.
  17. Bringing Perkins back seems like the only sensible move, especially if Yelich is expected back before too long. There shouldn’t be that much time in the starting lineup available for the fourth outfielder except against left-handed starters, and even that could drop when Yelich returns.
  18. The way he hit that wall he could have done some damage to his knee that couldn’t be determined until the swelling goes down I think an IL stint is nearly certain because they’ll want another RH hitter as soon as Sunday and he won’t be ready by then.
  19. Definitely the most enjoyable win of the season to date.
  20. The camera on the empire‘s mask can produce some interesting pictures, but please don’t show it live.
  21. This is like the inning, the Brewers had against Skenes last year when he faced Misioroski.
  22. Bases loaded nobody out. Considering who’s coming up would you consider it a scoring chance?
  23. When I looked a couple of weeks ago at the difficult stretch of games facing the Brewers, this series really stood out. I hope the Brewers can get at least one in this series. It’s going to be difficult against that powerful lineup, especially with their top 2 SP going tonight and tomorrow.
  24. The Brewers “Walk of Fame” requires at least three seasons with the Brewers or Milwaukee Braves. Sabathia was inducted into the Wall of Honor today. I think that’s an appropriate recognition
