  1. This will be a day to give the bottom of the bullpen some innings.
  2. Sunday defense, in addition to the Sunday batting order is not looking like a winning formula.
  3. While the Nats position group may be improved, their pitching is dead last in MLB in runs allowed per game. Bad pitching is the main reason why they have lost 8 of their last 9 games against teams not wearing WISCO jerseys. The Brewers scoring only 10 runs in 3 games, all of which were the result of HRs, against those pitchers should be seen as a warning sign of a weak offense.
  4. As a point of fact, the Brewers have scored 3 or less in 6 games (and 2 or less in 5 games) and 4 of those games of 3 or less are in the last 5 games. They scored 29 of their 80 runs in the opening series against the White Sox. That Sox series is looking more like an outlier. I disagree with your opinion that the Brewers offense is doing great. Losing Yelich (who was a significant contributor) for an extended period is going to create more challenges. I will be really surprised if the Brewers are still 5th in R/G a month from now.
  5. The Nats had lost 7 of 8 coming into the weekend, and their biggest problem has been pitching. The Brewers getting shut down by them on Friday and Saturday, and scoring only on HRs for the whole weekend, says a lot about the sorry state of the offense. Those scrappy Nats are losing15-1 to the Pirates tonight.
  6. You’re letting yourself be misled by the outsized impact of the high scoring games., especially in the White Sox series. A really good offense does not have as many games scoring 0-2 runs as the Brewers have, especially in the last week. Hopefully the injured players can come back and revive the offense, but that looks to be at least a month away once you throw in rehab assignments.
  7. With Yelich now reportedly out for about a month, I am even more getting the feeling that this is going to be one of those years. The Brewers haven’t had one for quite awhile, so maybe they’re due The injuries are exposing how weak the depth is, both in the lineup and the starting rotation. Four more weeks of lineups with Regnifo second and Lockridge 6th is going to be hard to watch. And the way things are going there will be more injuries before Chourio, Vaughn, and Yelich get back and shake the rust off.
  8. I said a “high percentage”. Not every last criticism is a second guess. I don’t like what I think is an overuse of the “opener” concept either, but it doesn’t necessarily make it a bad decision. It didn’t work out as planned on Friday, but, even with that they got to the ninth thinning in a 3-3 tie. Who can say if the end result would have been different if Patrick had started. Keep declaring in advance what moves you don’t like. Questioning the manager is a traditional part of being a fan. But, when a team routinely wins 90 games with a team that is not overburdened with exceptional individual talent, the manager can’t be making too many bad decisions.
  9. I think a high percentage of the criticism about in game management is classic second-guessing. Bad result=Bad move.
  10. According to Adam McCalvy, the Brewers are expecting “bad news“ on Yelich as the preliminary examination found fluid in his tight hamstring.
  11. So, do you think he deserved to be Manager of the Year?
  12. No, what I have said very clearly is that the manager gets too much credit and too much blame. You seem to be saying that the two time manger of the year is a fraud, or that he has suddenly lost his touch when presented with a “paper thin roster”.
  13. And what I’m saying is that in game moves can be greatly overrated in a baseball game. If the hitters don’t hit and the pitchers can’t get guys out the manager is not going to make a difference. Message board posters who can second guess everything are never wrong.
  14. Like telling James Wood to hit? You’re putting WAY too much weight on the mangers for the results of these three games.
  15. What manager is going to be successful with a paper thin roster? The front office decided that they could sell tickets based on last season’s success and only made moves that made this year’s team worse.
  16. Who were the good ones? I think he was out of good relievers in the first inning.
  17. What else could it be? Maybe an illness, but with his history a back or oblique problem is much more likely.
  18. I didn’t think it was possible, but it looks like Lockridge has a worse arm than Yelich.
  19. Cubs have nothing to do with the Brewers at this point. If the Brewers don’t straighten out they will be fighting with everyone else in the division too.
  20. I was irritated in the off-season that the Brewers traded their best SP and did nothing to improve the offense. While other teams that think they are contenders make moves to improve themselves in the off-season, the Brewers make themselves worse while accumulating a strong minor league system. Maybe at some point they need to trade some of these great prospects to get some proven major league hitting. We hear about the great depth of pitching in the organization but most of them seem to be bottom of the rotation starters at best when they aren’t injured. And they are often injured. If the poster who responded to my post the other day with the comment that Chourio and Vaughn are not that much better than the players currently playing is correct, this is going to be a long season.
  21. How do you feel about the Brewers facing Griffin the way he’s been throwing and the Brewers have been hitting?
  22. So, it appears that the bullpen, and offense are both weaknesses right now.
