  1. More predictable whining from Levering.
  2. So, the Brewers have the most runners thrown out at home in MLB with 12. That’s about 1 every 5 games. What they don’t say is what is the norm for other teams. If everyone (or almost everyone) has like 8 or more, that difference seems pretty insignificant. And when runners thrown at the plate are on force outs, like Turang’s DP the other day, that has nothing to do with insane baserunnjng. This could be a stat that says nothing about the team’s phiosophy.
  3. After their hot start to the season, the Brewers have become road weaklings. This makes losses in 5 of the last 6 series and a sweep here would make them 6-12 in those games. They haven’t won a road series since the sweep over the Cardinals in mid April. They’ll be facing some tough pitchers in Detroit too so the offense is going to have to find something to win that one.
  4. Can’t take a day off when you have a chance to break a record that nobody knows or cares about.
  5. I brought it up because they have talked about it, and put up a graphic about it every game in this series. My point is, that is such an obscure, random, and relatively meaningless thing that I doubt anyone really cares about it.
  6. Has anyone ever thought about, much less cared about, the Brewers record for most consecutive games started by teammates to start a season?
  7. Burnes had twice as many innings in 2018 as Hall had last year. That may not be tremendous, but IMHO it is pretty significant. He had several outings covering more than 1 inning and a WHIP of 1.00 compared to Hall’s 1.19. Burnes was also making his MLB debut in 2018 while Hall had a pretty rough career debut in 2022. I too am willing to wait for Hall to pitch more before classifying him. But the discussion here is mostly about what to do with him this year if the Brewers are in a playoff chase. There’s a big question mark over whether he will be ready to contribute as a starter this year. I’ll go out on a limb and say Hall won’t be winning the Cy Young award in 2026. I actually think comparing him to Burnes is a disservice to him. In the short term once he’s physically able I think he would be better placed in the bullpen. Unless something changes dramatically the Brewers are going to have plenty of use for pitchers to come in from the bullpen and pitch multiple innings
  8. Burnes showed something in 2018 that Hall has not yet shown in his career. Nobody would be comparing the two if they didn’t happen to be involved in the same trade.
  9. I was responding to a poster who said he felt better because the Sox led the Cubs by 5.
  10. Did you really think they would hold a lead?
  11. Brewers put their playoff offense on display
  12. That’s been my experience. They don’t look for a second opinion if the original diagnosis is that it’s no big deal.
  13. You mean they’re allowed to use the same pitcher for 7 innings?
  14. Probably not because he didn’t also leave a couple other of the top hitters out of the lineup at the same time. If you think for one second that Phillies fans as a group are more rational than Brewers fans, that’s proof that you never lived in that area.
  15. They also held the Phillies to 4 runs, all of which were unearned because of misplays on bunts,.
  16. The Phillies have won something like 20 of their last 24 home games, so there’s no question it’s going to be a tough series, especially facing some of the Phils’ top starters. But the Phillies are missing two top starters (Turner and Marsh) and the Cardinals showed last night that they aren’t unbeatable. One game at a time.
  17. I doubt if the Phillies would tinker with their highly successful batting order much just because of facing a lefty opener and knowing that the next pitcher will be a righty. Having 4 of their first 5 as lefties is not their normal lineup when Realmuto is catching. With Turner still on the IL he has been hitting second between Schwarber and Harper with Bohm fourth. Marsh has often been 5th against RHP but I will be surprised if he isn’t placed on the IL today after how he looked after apparently pulling a hamstring last night. Castellanos would probably be moved to fifth against a LH starter; they have done that even with Marsh in. The advantage to be gained with a LH opener seems to be limited to getting a LH facing Schwarber and Harper in the first inning. It still might be worth it, though it does reduce the options for later in the game.
  18. The counterpoint is that swinging away increases the possibility of a hit that would drive in a run and move the other runner into scoring position without spending an out. Hitting with the infield drawn in significantly increases the probability of a hitter getting a hit, either by hitting one through the infield or blooping one over it. I’m in the camp that considers outs a very valuable commodity and I hate giving them away.
  19. There’s room for differences of opinion, but I think bunting there was a bad idea for this reason. Frelick should not be, and usually isn’t a real free swinger. With the infield drawn way in, I think a hitter like him should be thinking about hitting one past the drawn in infield or popping one over it. Against a lefty he should be thinking about going to left field. With the infield in a bunt has to be pretty good to get the runner in unless you go all out suicide squeeze, which I wouldn’t want in that situation either.
  20. Terrible idea to bunt and a terrible bunt.
  21. Trying to squeeze another inning out of Herget may prove fatal.
  22. Should have been more concerned with Peralta than the lineup.
  23. Should have been more concerned with Peralta than the lineup.
