  1. Necessary? No. Was it necessary for them to interpret my comment the way they did instead of the way it was clearly written? Should I have interpreted this statement as assuming that the Brewers were going to lose and the Cubs were going to sweep? I didn’t. I note that your only posts this week have been to critique mine. Why not talk about the games and the team?
  2. I guess that’s where we disagree. I think Bohm starting on his heels can cover 10-15 feet faster than old Santana with a sore ankle can cover 60.
  3. It’s easier to be “spot on” when you cover both sides before the games are played.
  4. It is a moot point but if you look at the replay Santana was pretty far from third when the ball got past Bohm. I think he could have gotten to the bag or gone right at Santana for a tag if he had fielded the ball cleanly. The other point is that if he fields the ball cleanly and doesn’t get an out the game is still just tied. A classic example of taking your eye off the ball.
  5. It would involve a suspended game and a pitcher who is the pitcher of record for one team when the game is suspended being traded to the other team before the game is resumed and giving up the winning run for that team. The rules do allow a player who has been traded to play for his new team in that situation.
  6. No. If he fields it cleanly he had an easy out at third and probably could have thrown Miller out too.
  7. I responded to this above, but it reminds me of an even crazier scenario that is possible under the rules, though it has never happened in the major leagues. It is possible for a pitcher to be both the winning and losing pitcher in a game. Any idea how that could happen.
  8. If you could pick one I’d probably pick Woodruff too because of the veteran experience. But, it’s probably a moot point because the real priority would probably be keeping the pitchers on schedule as much as possible. The wild card series starts on Tuesday, just two days after the season ends. If the Brewers would have to go to the final weekend or final day just to win the division or get a playoff spot, they might have to use their best starters that weekend and that would dictate availability for Tuesday. Even if the Brewers have an opportunity to tinker with their rotation to set up the playoffs they probably want to avoid having anyone go too long in between starts unless they think a pitcher would be helped by skipping a turn. BTW, in order to avoid misunderstanding, I would direct everyone’s attention to the signature that I have used for a few years because of the tendency of some posters to read unintended things into my posts. In this case, just because I mention the possibility of the Brewers going to the last day of the season to clinch the division or a playoff spot, that doesn’t mean that I expect or assume that that will happen.
  9. It wasn’t that great in 2021 either. They took the commanding lead in the division early and wobbled to the finish. Or 2020, if that counts as a season.
  10. That is a pretty wild scenario, but I’m pretty sure the answer would be no. The scoring definition for a save triggers off the situation when the pitcher “enters the game”. If he moves to the outfield he isn’t entering the game when he returns to the mound.
  11. I would nominate it for craziest win of the year.
  12. The Brewers pen has been taxed a little too.
  13. I think was going for the force at third all the way and just flat took his eye off it. Williams has to shut them down now. Can’t afford to not take advantage of a gift like that.
  14. There’s the break of the season.
  15. Wrong again. You couldn’t even quote me correctly.
  16. Please read my post a little more carefully. The words “would be” are important in making it clear that this is something that probably “would” happen IF the Cubs win the division, not something that I said “will happen”. Neither I nor edfunderburk said that we are assuming that the Cubs are winning the division.
  17. What would make it worse is that, unless the Brewers really collapse, the Cubs would be clinching the division at AFF, probably with about half of the crowd cheering them on. I’m kind of glad I will be in Europe that weekend.
  18. Now 6-1 in the ninth. Still waiting for evidence that the Cubs pitching isn’t going to hold up.
  19. Honestly, I think looking at underlying metrics in the context of a single game takes the fun out of the game. Getting hits in the right spots and making defensive plays in the right spots are a significant part of the game.
  20. Maybe I’m in the minority but I still think the division race is coming down to the final weekend. If the teams are tied or within one game of each other it will be a best of 3 to win the division, I REALLY don’t want to see the Brewers play the Cubs in the wild card playoff round.
  21. Not so much fun when they show why it doesn’t matter when you can advance another runner to third on the play and then drive him in.
  22. Not the time to hand them a free base runner. Can’t blame the umpires for that one either.
  23. Vintage Hendricks outing against the Brewers. 5 IP, no ER.
  24. I completely agree that it’s in line to point it out. But it can be done in an objective and not insulting way. For example, I think “Actually the Brewers are 25th in MLB in FB%…” is less snarky than “but hey, too geared to hit fly balls”.
