  1. ESPN has the Phillies ranked behind the Nationals, which is odd to me. I wasn't a fan of the Harper signing for Philly, but I actually thought acquiring Realmuto was one of the key moves of the off season. I know Washington still has a chance to be pretty good, but that Philly roster is deeper IMO. These rankings pre-season are pretty much off paper, and on paper Philly seems better.
  2. Power rankings usually don't line up with the teams record, although pre-season with win projections you would think would... CBS sports has the Brewers at #9 with the Cubs and Cards both ahead of them. Going to be a brutal division this year. Hopefully we can get healthy and survive the opening stretch of tough games.
  3. 2019 Brewers Predictions Win-Loss Record: 88-74 Playoffs (Yes, No): No Highest Playoff Level Achieved: None All-Star Game Representative(s): Yelich, Hader, Grandal Offensive Player of the Year: Christian Yelich Starting Pitcher of the Year: Woodruff Relief Pitcher of the Year: Hader Most Surprising Player: Arcia and Guerra Most Disappointing Player: Aguilar and Chacin
  4. Don't they have the option to put your passport right on your drivers license now? Seems odd that people who travel out of the country on a yearly basis wouldn't take advantage of that.
  5. Thanks for your time MVK. I still remember him turning around and thanking the home plate ump after the final out vs the Rockies. Yelling “Thank you Teddy, Bless You”. Then celebrating with Hader. Class act, wish him the best of luck in SF
  6. It’s not just that they don’t get high ranked recruits either. The guys they’ve got seem like a bunch of random pieces that don’t fit together. Happ had a great individual career, but they won’t miss this group of seniors. Happ and Iverson unable to ever develop as outside threats just clogged everything up with their defenders parked in the lane. Need to find a way to keep the floor spaced and the ball moving next year. Gard needs to land a decent ranked recruit soon. He was a recruiting specialist and his most famous move so far was loosing Hero. There’s no bigger names on the radar for next year either.
  7. Story up on ESPN about Brewers bullpen injuries also talks about Nelson coming back from Tommy John surgery.... stellar reporting.
  8. If you were evaluating this team as though Nelson were going to be part of it, that is your mistake. I wasn't and still am not. Jeffress is on the trail back. If they can't replace 55 innnings of Knebel then they were never as good as you thought they were. Reds are being over hyped and the Cardinals needed to get better just to catch up. That was before we singed Moose and Yas. The Cubs didn't get better. Signing Kimbrel is an overreaction much the same as overreacting to this weeks injures. There will be more. Hey now, you get out of here with this calmness and logic... EVERYBODY PANIC!!!!
  9. I'm sure this might have been discussed, but without having to read back through the 14 pages... Is there a draft pick loss connected to signing Kimbrel? If so, what would that be for the Brewers?
  10. Not sure that is fact? You claimed that almost all teams get insurance on pitchers with big contracts, where are your facts on that? It's something that is rarely talked about so I really doubt that any posters here know those facts either way, but hard to call someone out when you didn't provide any actual evidence to your claim either.
  11. I think Marquette had like 2 assists at halftime. There was no ball movement/flow to the offense. Marquette seems to recruit well, but just missing something on the court. I want to say soft, but not really sure if that's the correct term. They just don't dig in on defense when needed, get beat in transition at times for layups, etc. They just don't look like they are playing with a tenacity, or passion. One of the most impressive things about Wisconsin under Bo and now Gard, they don't recruit a lot of blue chip talent, they go into some games completely outmatched, and still grind their way to keeping it in single digits. Could be wrong without actually looking up scores, but I just don't remember a WI team getting throttled in a tournament game like that, or at any point in the season honestly.
  12. I believe the morning of opening day. I thought it was like 10 or 11 AM that day.
  13. Wow, I guess I started the Chase talk, but in no way was bashing him or dislike him. I was curious how he would react to the move to the pen. At the end of last year he was not the perfect teammate who did whatever was best for the team. He was upset enough about being pulled from the rotation that Stearns had to come in and have a "mend the fences" meeting with him during the playoff push. I remember it being an issue for a while, and there being multiple news stories about his reaction. To say he took it well is false, but again, I'm not bashing him for that. If you're a competitive athlete you should be upset about it. I was merely wondering if we would hear about it being an issue again this year. As for the young guys in the rotation, I don't know if they will "disappoint" as much as they just can't live up to the crazily unrealistic expectations that they have built for themselves. With the hype around them, what they did last year in clutch performances, some people think of them as if they are established aces now. May get there eventually, but to expect that from all 3 this year is crazy yet some do.
  14. Signing Kimbrel worries me if its more than a 1 year deal, and I'm not sure he's going to sign a 1 year deal. Signing pitchers late in ST has not worked well in the past couple years, even though every player is different. Odds are Jeffress could be back before Kimbrel would be ready to help us anyways. I know they aren't related, but a Kimbrel signing would wreak of a panic move similar to the Schoop deal at the trading deadline last year. Making a move to make a move doesn't always work. If Kimbrel was a guy they valued all along they would have been pursing him earlier.
  15. Problem with that logic is if the bullpen is our strength, and you remove 2 of the 3 best ones, yes, that could easily derail an entire season. Especially to a team that uses it's bullpen the way we do. You can't minimize the importance of our bullpen, even if you want to. I agree to an extent, but some of that bullpen strength just shifted to the rotation, and our offense should be better. Burns and Woodruff were a part of the bullpen strength last year, and now will give us more innings from the rotation. Losing something with the pen shouldn't derail the team if it's balanced out with gains from the rotation and offense.
  16. I'm pretty excited that they are keeping Freddy in the rotation to start the year. I don't know how well Anderson will adjust to the pen. Hopefully he keeps a positive attitude and finds ways to help this team. I know he was not thrilled with being removed from the rotation last year, I would imagine if he's a competitive guy, this won't sit well with him either. Finding a way for him to give us positive innings will be big depending on how long we are without Jeffress and Knebel.
  17. Was actually pretty easy to find... This is NFHS so high school, but I'm sure college is similar. Rule 10 Section 5 - Bench Technical The head coach is responsible for his/her own conduct and behavior, as well as substitutes, disqualified team members, and all other bench personnel. Bench personnel, including the head coach shall not: Art 2: Enter the court area unless by permission of an official to attend an injured player Penalty: The officials shall warn the head coach unless the offense is judged to be major, in which case a technical foul shall be ruled. I would guess that contacting a player would make it a major offense.
  18. I'm guessing it has to be some sort of bench technical. I have a rule book in my desk, if the NCAA games get boring I will do some digging today and see what I can find.
  19. Really weird results, his 3 cone and short shuttle are terrible, but everything else was pretty good. Even his 10 split on his 40's were not bad. He's sort of stiff on film, but not that bad. I think Albers could grunt out a better 3 cone.
  20. Figured it could use it's own thread for topics that aren't necessarily WI or Marquette. My bracket has a whole lot of chalk, actually looked for upsets, just not feeling them this year. In 3 regions I had 1vs2 matchups. My final 4: Duke Gonzaga Tennessee North Carolina Duke over North Carolina in the final. Who do you have?
  21. Of course Domingo and Krush both would go deep on the defacto opening day. Looks like Santana played LF today, was that just because of the Ichiro cameo or are they going to play him in LF?
  22. Read Matthews had better financial offers, but wanted to be close to home. Very curious who offered more than that? I thought this deal was higher than what he’d get. Was a great run here. Glad for what he gave us, and glad for Clay to be able to get back to LA. Best of luck to him.
  23. Bucks by 11.5 tonight seems like a lot without Giannis and Brogdon. Even with LA sitting LeBron that seems like a lot to cover.
  24. I honestly think that Peralta will have a hard time living up to the hype he created last year. At least a part of his success comes from a delivery that is hard to pick up. The league will catch up to that part of his success. The more guys see him, the better they will eventually pick up his release point. If he added 2 mph this year, is that for sure a good thing? Sometimes velocity takes away from movement. I like the guy and I think he's going to be a positive member of the rotation for a long time, but people talk about him like he's a lock to be an ace. I think reality will be somewhere closer to a #3, and that's not at all a bad thing. Just don't see him living up to the expectations some have of him.
  25. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s not the case on the opening day 25 man. You aren’t going to need 13 pitchers in the first couple games. However, you could use a extra pinch hitter. Similar to Choi last year, wouldn’t shock me to see an extra bat for a game or two.
