  1. Wasn't the qualifying offer that he turned down work 17 mil + ?? I wonder how this off-season will change how players approach those decisions at the end of this season.
  2. It is like time has been crawling along all morning. Can't wait for games to get under way. I've been scrolling through lineups, seen Brinson is leading off for the Marlins and they also have Garrett Cooper starting in RF. Will be interesting to watch how Brinson does this season.
  3. Spring Hopes Eternal :-) I won't be home until about 5 PM. I have it DVR'd and am going to shut off my phone and all electronics until I get caught up to the live action. NOT IDEAL... but it's what I got.
  4. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/03/rays-to-release-dan-jennings.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MlbTradeRumors+%28MLB+Trade+Rumors%29 Two reasons: 1. The Rays didn't want to pay him all of 2.37 million during a rebuild year and were able to bump him for 1/4 of the salary. This is similar to what we did with Gallardo. 2. He had a poor strikeout/walk ratio. I still don't get them dumping him if there were no issues. Look at the huge returns relievers have brought. Why not pay him for half a year, not much more than the buyout, and try to flip him for a prospect? Or if he's that good just trade him now rather than cut? Seems off to me, but if Drake is out and this guy is even average, I'm liking it.
  5. reported here that the deadline is 10:30 am central tomorrow. Oh man, that means we'll probably have to wait until about 10:27.
  6. We just had our fantasy draft last night. The catcher position seems as barron as I ever remember it being. Most MLB starters are mediocre at best, let alone someone who was cut by another team.
  7. Opening Day lineups are sometimes released the day before aren't they?
  8. The Brewers aren't trading Cain. We are not piggy backing starters. There have been so many pointless arguments on here this off-season that have zero chance of actually happening. We should have a "Completely hypothetical and zero chance of happening" thread. Tomorrow afternoon can not get here soon enough. Or even the final roster cuts for that matter to get something to discuss.
  9. Would still take Puk in a heart beat. Players now seem to come back from Tommy John as strong as ever. This delays his arrival by a year or more, but I don't think it lowers his potential at all.
  10. I believe they'll go directly to San Diego from Houston. Let the record show I'm not the one suggesting dealing Cain. That would be ludicrous. A deal in the next couple days involving multiple players wouldn't shock me but Shaw, Arcia, Yelich, Cain and Braun aren't going anywhere and neither are Hader or Knebel or any of the top 3 starters. Yea, I guess I blanked on the whole starting on the road thing... But same concept. You would think they guys that were not going to be on the 25 would be spared a second flight.
  11. I went to a Scrubs game last year and actually really liked the outfield renovations. The entire outfield is general admission so for $25 I believe you could move anywhere throughout the game. We actually did a stadium tour, which was so/so but was game day so you see less. There was about 3 hours between the tour and game. Was going to go back to our hotel, but asked our tour guide when the stadium would open. He gave us "Ehh, prolly 40 minutes or so". Caught me off guard because of Miller Park rules. We grabbed a burger across the street, and by the time we ate they were letting people in. Outfield being first come first serve you get good seats for showing up early. Plus was in to see both teams batting practice, which is cool to me. Our group of 4 ended up with 3 BP home run balls. In between BP and game the stadium workers let us through a gate in RF to go up and get some pictures behind home plate. If BP is entertaining to you, show up early to Cubs game. They open gates WAY before game time.
  12. Sad, but correct. Need something on paper to back up a suspension. WIAA doesn't have anything in writing to do anything about it, and school athletic code violation only 2 games which were served in cross country. Neither entity could suspend him but the coach isn't forced to justify playing time or put him out on the court. Led to opposing student section chants every time he touched the ball. An-kle-bra-clet 2-4-6-8 who do we incarcerate This loophole in WIAA policy will be fixed most likely at the WIAA annual meeting in April.
  13. I thought the final roster moves would be out by now. I'm assuming the team traveled back to Milwaukee tonight. You would think they would have made the moves rather than have guys fly to Milwaukee and then fly back south tomorrow. Figured a couple guys wouldn't have been on the plane tonight... But.... Apparently waiting till last possible moment for deals to come along.
  14. Yea, I think this is a good thing, odd, but good. Rested Braun always seems to go on a tear right when he comes back from injury. Plenty of rest is a positive for him. Everyone talks about trading Santana but then we have less depth and still have 2 LF. Still odd and someone playing out of place. The only trade that fixes it is Braun going and bringing Phillips up to be the defensive replacement for Santana, and a Braun trade isn't happening. Basically lace em up and let's go see what we got. Still dying to see what finally happens with Aguilar/Choi though.
  15. With starting pitchers going shorter into games it makes it easier for this log jam to get at bats. As we get into bullpens I think lefty lineups switch over late and vice versa. Instead of total off days I think there will be quite a bit of 5/4 or 6/3 early on in the year. Could see the starter get 3 AB and the defensive sub or opposite handed player get 2.
  16. I don't mind keeping all 4 if the right offer didn't come along, but watching Yellich have to play RF is going to be a little frustrating. Trading Santana doesn't really help that though.
  17. Even if they don't start you would think the 4 OF will all get at least 1 AB per day or more. If we start Yellich/Cain/Santana in the OF and Braun at 1B I'm sure we will switch to Braun/Cain/Yellich or some other better defensive switch later in the game. At the very least there will be a PH by the non-starter at some point each day. They will find ways to keep the AB numbers where they want them until there is an injury.
  18. Would guess they wait as long as possible to see if they can work anything out to trade someone rather than cut, especially with Aguilar/Choi.
  19. Williams with a real bad outing at a real bad time.
  20. Unfortunately they don't even have room for Aguilar much less Choi. Choi's only realistic chance of cracking the roster would be if they surprised us with a Thames trade in a logjam freeing move. I know Jesus is a good locker room guy and had a solid year last year, especially as a PH, but with a large sample size Choi was a much better minor league hitter. He also plays multiple positions defensively. He never has hit major league pitching but very small sample size. He at least would peak some interest you would think.
  21. Aguilars not good. He's ww fodder that was cut because he wasn't good. Platoon 1bs or backup 1bs are dime a dozen. They are valued as such league wide. Guys who can successfully pinch hit, especially for power, are not dime a dozen. Aguilar has a lot of value to this team, I was actually thinking out loud that Choi may actually have more. Depending on the validity of those minor league stats compared to Jesus.
