  1. Just noticed the Brewers team ERA is second best in the NL. Incredibly, the Dodgers are # 1 by more than a half a run per game. 2.67 team ERA for the Dodgers…
  2. Correct. Nine innings this year. ’All games part of doubleheaders in 2022 are scheduled as nine-inning games, following the implementation of seven-inning doubleheaders as part of health and safety protocols in 2020 and 2021.’ https://www.mlb.com/press-release/press-release-2022-season-news-notes
  3. Swarmer has only gone longer than 5 IP once for Iowa this year. We should see several innings of Cubs relief pitching in game one.
  4. Minimum 95 AB May 30 1. W. Contreras .843 OPS 2. T. Stephenson .834 OPS 3. D. Varsho .813 OPS 4. J. Helm .810 OPS 5. O. Narvaez .801 OPS By OPS, Narvaez has been meaningfully better than Realmuto (.694), Perez (.620) and Grandal (.504). Narvaez will make $5 million this year. The other three will combine to make $60 million. Granted, I expect all three catchers will improve for the rest of the year. Just want to praise Omar for his excellent start to 2022. For catchers, Top 5 in WAR and OPS, Omar Narvaez.
  5. Hiura’s .862 OPS through 52 AB is highest on the roster. Seems like the right choice for being our primary DH against RHP until proven otherwise.
  6. Please have Keston be DH in game one against the RHP making his MLB debut. McCutchen should be DH in game two against LHP, Drew Smyly.
  7. The Brewers team OPS from CF this year is .649, which is 8th in the NL. Tyrone Taylor’s OPS in May is .809. If Taylor maintains an .800 OPS (could happen?) that would be huge offensive production from CF. Only the Mets have team OPS from CF above .800 in NL, thanks to Brandon Nimmo. Better production from DH is more important for Brewers than pursuing an upgrade over the Taylor/Cain platoon. No one should be happy with Cain’s bat. Interestingly, Cain raised his OPS by 62 points, yesterday. If Taylor gets more AB, our CF offense may be just fine.
  8. I suppose we could pursue a stud 3B and turn Urias back into a super utility. I feel like Urias is an everyday player for us, though. Edit: There are only five 3B with meaningfully higher OPS than Urias. (J. Ramirez, Machado, Devers, Arenado and A. Riley)
  9. From what I see, our DH spot is the only glaring hole. Sure, it’d be great to have more from LF but what can you do? Narvaez OPS is .801. This seems fine. Tellez OPS is .827. This seems fine. Wong OPS in May is .728, which is aligned with his career OPS of .723. I doubt we should upgrade 2B. Urias OPS is .762 which seems light for everyday 3B when Adames returns. But I doubt we improve upon Urias. Adames OPS is .766 and will certainly remain our everyday SS. Adames is fine. Yelich OPS is .710. I guess we hope for the best and a return to .800 OPS. Taylor OPS is .809 in May. Maybe will be fine as starting CF? This side of Mike Trout and George Springer, where are the offensive stud CF? Renfroe OPS is .806. How much would we give up to have a RF with a .900 OPS instead of Renfroe? Renfroe seems fine. Only four ‘qualified’ RF with higher OPS. McCutchen OPS of .622 is the biggest opportunity. Hiura OPS is .862 and should probably be our primary DH until we get that ‘big bat’
  10. Cubs are calling up Matt Swarmer (RHP) to make his MLB debut and start in game one. A right hander just called up from Triple-A seems like a perfect moment for Keston today.
  11. On June 18, 2021 the Cubs were in first place. On July 19, 2021 they were 9.5 GB and in 4th place in the division.

  13. 11 months ago to the day, Aaron Ashby made his MLB debut starting against the Cubs, too. That was a game I may never forget. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MIL/MIL202106300.shtml

  15. Splitting with the Cardinals in Saint Louis seems fine. 17 runs in 4 games compared to 15 runs allowed. 16 games against the Padres, Mets, Cardinals, Blue Jays and Rays in June.

  17. Using the Cardinals series as an example, if the Brewers fall behind by four runs then the opposing team will use a less talented relief pitcher. For example, on Friday, Keston hit his home run off Kodi Whitley. Whitley was just recalled from Triple-A and has not been particularly effective in 2022. On Saturday, the Brewers plated two runs off TJ McFarland in the 9th to lose 8-3. McFarland’s ERA was 7.31 entering that contest. Understandably, I believe the Brewers offense is more effective against bad pitchers compared to good pitchers. I don’t think it is fair to say the Brewers offense is simply better when they are losing.

  19. Is there anything to be concerned about that Lauer’s strikeout rates have fallen considerably in May compared to April? Only 1 K last night, too.
  20. Most surprising thing about Singleton’s stats in Nashville: two stolen bases, already.
  21. Peterson’s BABIP is a very low .188. I imagine his luck will improve with more AB. I like that he is still walking 12% of the time.
  22. I agree that at this point, Mathias should get the first ‘utility man’ call in 2022. I’m excited for a Nashville bat, almost any Nashville bat, to get a chance in the bigs this year.
  23. @Brock Beauchamp Difficult question for you: which division has the better top two teams? AL or NL Central?
